  1. Thanks for the replies. I know someone in the Haltom City club. My understanding is that they do NOT allow holster draws, etc. That's a pretty active club but I think it's more aligned with silhouette, bullseye, etc. Cool stuff but probably not the place for action pistol practice. I've thought about getting on the wait list for Dallas Pistol Club. Should have done it a year ago. I will send that in this week. Thanks. In the meantime, unless something else gets my attention, I will probably use Proactive Defense and TDSA ranges. ETTS is also an option but further out.
  2. David, could you share more on that subject? Thanks.
  3. That's a great reply and the time machine comment gets at the heart of what I'm asking. Mindset and what to be intentional about is what I'm asking for. I appreciate you re-posting it.
  4. Gear can be fun to chase but as you said, it's not where most of the gains come from. That's why this topic isn't about gear. It's about paying attention to the right things. Appreciate all the comments. Keep them coming.
  5. Yes to Double Tap. That's close to you.
  6. Excellent. Perhaps I'll see you at Fossil Pointe sometime.
  7. Kudos to you. I've enjoyed your postings.
  8. Welcome to the forums. Where do you live and which club/range are you referring to? I'm in Roanoke. Lots of 3 gun in N TX. Sporting Clays...have you shot at Fossil Pointe yet? That's a nice sporting clays range. Shoot what you have. You can always change later.
  9. That right there is pretty interesting to me. I'm listening and reading and learning and practicing...and I keep hearing that speed matters...but hits matter...but speed...and then you post this. Fascinating. Obviously, a good combo of hits and speed is what winners do but speed matters a LOT. You actually can miss fast enough to make up for penalties. At some point mathematically, you can get ahead of the slower but more accurate shooter. All of this assumes safety and no DQ's of course.
  10. Well, Rowdy I appreciate someone like yourself who is going after the next percentile of growth. It's cool to see someone good who wants to get better. That's what I do professionally for others (corporate world). I owe you an email as well!

    97B"E" at 100 yards

Hi Joe, nicely done. Many shooters have no idea what their pistol will do at distance and would be shocked to see what's possible with a little practice. I've done a fair amount of shooting big bore revolvers at hundreds of yards. Wiith the right setup to show your hits and someone to call your shots, you can seriously terrorize a 5 gal bucket at several hundred yards. A man sized target would be in a lot of danger. As always, trigger control and sight picture are key. Have you tried resting the pistol on top of bags instead of resting the butt on a hard surface? In my experience, the pistol does better to recoil freely and doesn't skew the results. Thanks for posting.
  12. This is a great topic. I appreciate all of the responses. There's nothing wrong with being a paper M or GM if you are working to back up the classification. Actually, what does it really matter? At the end of the day, it's a shooting game. When Stoeger initially qualified as GM, I'm sure there were comments. So what. Anderson qualifying as M...same thing. Everyone has their buttons of what sets them off. Ever listen to Stoeger's podcasts? Hah.
  13. I have undergraduate and master's degrees from SAGU. Small world. Yes, Roanoke has all of that and some interesting little restaurants that get good press...Babe's Chicken, Hard 8 BBQ, and others. I live within sight of the Speedway. Let me know if you come up this way and maybe we could meet.
  14. I just ordered CGW package 75810 and some extra springs. The discos were out of stock but just came available if anyone was waiting on that. https://cajungunworks.com/product/75810-shadow-s-2-kit-bushing/ Hopefully, the fitting is minor.
  15. I went to college in Waxahachie. I'm in Roanoke...north Ft Worth. There's a good range in your area...ETTS. http://www.ettsgunrange.com
  16. That makes sense. I'm certainly open to joining a waiting list for the right kind of club.
  17. Welcome to the forums. Which part of TX?
  18. Thanks for your reply. You bring up a good point...I also need to be thinking about if there is a private waiting list I should get on. What led you to apply to that club?
  19. That's good advice. I'm working on establishing a dry fire routine that I can CONSISTENTLY maintinain. I'm looking for steady growth over time. Also good advice on not chasing equipment too much. I know the gear is good...Shadow 2 and Brazos Pro (although I don't know which division I will focus on first). I've got great reloading setups and lots of components. I've got good training resources with Stoeger, Anderson, BE forums, YouTube, etc. Plus, I plan on taking classes with Anderson and Stoeger. I also plan on meeting local guys at the clubs and matches and hopefully getting their advice on improvements I can make. Then there's work ethic and drive...The motivation is there and I'm not lazy. Keep the advice coming and thanks again.
  20. Hi Steve. Thanks for your answer. In my case, I've already got the equipment and gear (for Production and Limited) as well as good training materials from Anderson and Stoeger. I'm registered with USPSA but haven't shot any matches or classifiers yet. One of the things I want to do is meet some locals and introduce myself and my biz partner who is also starting this USPSA journey. I'm also getting familiar with some of the Anderson and Stoeger drills for dry fire and live fire.
  21. There is a lot of experience here and the BE forums are a great resource. I really enjoy going through the archived topics and reading many topics. If you were starting over today in USPSA, what would you do differently? What would you focus on...or stay away from? Would you start with Production...or Limited? Would you practice more dry or live fire? Would you go to more matches early in your experience or focus more on practice? Feel free to take the subject in any direction. Thanks in advance for your thoughts.
  22. There's a local class here in a few weeks. I will look into joining it for all of the reasons mentioned already.
  23. Two different options I have that are excellent for me (I need some ankle support) are a neoprene hightop hiker style by Under Armour. They are crazy light...around 1# each and they have a surprising amount of support. The other is a custom Russell 8". Those are the best boots I've ever owned.
  24. There's a lot of private land around KC also. You might be able to find a place suitable for a private range. 24/7 indoor range...wow, haven't seen one of those before.
  25. SVs are excellent. I'm sure you are looking forward to it.
