  1. Why do you put the timer in your right hand when running a leftie?
  2. "Being ready is not what matters. What matters is winning after you get there." (Lieutenant General Victor H. Krulak, USMC, April 1965.)
  3. I have shot 2 area 5's at both polo and pasa, both were great, I live on the edge of area 3 but its more than twice as far to drive to the area 3 match than it is to area 5.
  4. The last thing I do before I assume the start position is close my eyes, exhale and relax all of my muscles, check every muscle in your body for tension, I usually find either my legs or butt is clenched. Once you find it and make it relax, open your eyes and do what ever the start position is. When you are used to doing this it takes 2 seconds. When i shoot my shooting hand is relaxed and my support hand is gripping the gun at 75%? grip strength. if i don't relax my shooting hand my trigger finger dosent respond to my brain.
  5. DO clubs get slots bases on Mission count?
  6. It's true, I've seen some fine work that Rick has done, and they all run great. Also, in eastern Iowa, Dick Becker is a whiz with Paras. I didn't know that Paras had a reputation for sometimes being less than reliable until I started frequenting this forum, because at his club everybody shoots Paras and they all run great! He's a salty old codger, but I suppose that's why he's so good, been working with Paras since they were frame kits. He's no slouch with other guns, either. +1 on Dick Becker. He re-did the trigger on a used para of mine and it is so sweet diabetics can't come withing 10 feet of it! +2 Dick Becker I had some issues with my Brazos and he made them go away!
  7. I use audible.com allot for just that reason, I have a pretty good selection started, I really enjoy audio books, you can pause it whenever you want but what I do with my Zune is pull out the ear bud jack and it stops right there. When I'm ready to listen in plug in the ear buds and push go. I probably have 75 hours of audio books, the last one I finished was Enders Way, great science fiction.
  8. I am thinking about limited 10 next year, I shoot a brazos 40 and I found myself struggling more with stage breakdown with 18 rds than I would with 10, I started in production and it seems a lot simpler to break it down into 8 to 10 plans. Once you get above 15 or so I end up reloading when there is an opportunity anyway. At our local level I am trying for the win anyway so divison isnt that important.
  9. 46.08 raw with a corrected time of 52.42 B class limited, to many Misses
  10. I agree, I came to this conclusion at area 5 this year, there were enough hard shots and small far steel you could never really plan for maximum use of magazine capacity. if you are shooting 18 to 20 rounds there has to be movement plan a reload. This might not be necessariy if it is a hoser stage with everything close and fast but how often do you see one of those besides at your local club. The STI style gun reloads like a dream, practice and don't sweat the small stuff. Im not a GM and maybe at that level this might matter but I bet if you look at your runs there is plenty of other stuff to work on to shave seconds.
  11. I used a SR holster in both, you have the advantage of getting used to the same draw that out weighs any DOH perceived advantage, The equipment is a small part of beginner shooting.
  12. Your saying its a stupid mistake to make up the shot, or just to hit the no shoot? I know making up shots is all about if you call it and make it up instantly vs look at the target see a hole missing and shoot it again. Was it the low target that where you hit the no shoot?
  13. Yikes! Adding a 50 fps buffer is equivalent to having a 9 PF buffer for 180gn, 10 PF buffer for 200gn, and 6.2 PF buffer for 124gn. So if I'm reading that correctly, if you were shooting Major, with a 180gn bullet and following the recommended target 171 PF, you would actually be making a load that goes at 180 PF. For minor, with a 124gn bullet following the recommended target 132-134 PF, then you would actually be making a load that goes at 138-140 PF. If I'm misreading how you are using the 50 fps buffer, then the only other way I can interpret it is that with a Major 180gn bullet then you are actually making a 162 PF bullet and then adding 9 to get to the recommend 171 PF. I don't think the 162 PF will be considered major. At least for a minor 124gn bullet, a 126-128 PF to get to the recommended 132-134 PF will definitely still make minor. with a 165 grain bullet i need 1000 fps, when the slowest of my bullets hit 1050 on my chrono I'm good, my slowest was 1048 my highest was 1100 powerfactor 175.9
  14. by pressure drop are you asking about velocity? The port in the compensator doesn't really change velocity, that is determined by bullet type, powder, and barrel length. I dont really see much difference between my 35 with a kkm barrel and it with a compensated kkm barrel. I have shot 135, 155, 165 grain bullets and to me the lighter and faster the better. 135's seen to be a bit harder to find.
  15. It would be nice to have a shootable out of box shotgun
  16. I have had good results, the last 2 years chrono at area 5 where pretty much identical with my Chrony F1 but when I chrony at home i do it on a cloudy day with no screens and I add 50 FPS buffer and thats where im always at.
  17. The reason I buy a glock is so that I dont have to clean it!
  18. If I was you, I would tell everyone in my squad on the first stage what the range commands are so they know what to expect from you. On our walk through every match in front of everyone i ask if there are any new shooters, assign them to my squad and then for everyone go over the range commands, even though most people know them as well as I do. But thats how you get the guys in your squad on the same page as you!
  19. I didnt record the SD but you were correct more crimp slower velocity
  20. That is interesting i had no idea how a guns head space came to be, although I have heard that term for years
  21. I dont know what that means can you explain and educate me to what it is and why its important.
  22. I will assume he is talking about how the cartridge interacts with the feed ramp, and the possibility of bullet setback from a weak crimp.
