  1. that all depends, For many people part of the fun of the game is buying and using "nice" guns and gear. Lucky thing for the High end gun builder out there, because if they only sold guns to shooters that were actually going to benefit form shooting "better" guns there would only be enough work for one guy, probably part time.
  2. I think I am the odd duck here but I'm not a fan of holes. I have shot several guns with them in various configurations and sizes and I much prefer the feel of my no holes large comp setups. I find the guns with holes to be harsher and at best only slightly flatter, but in reality flatter doesn't actually matter, what matters is the dot returning to where it started, it doesn't matter if it went 6" or 8" above the A, your not shooting till it is back and as long as it comes back to where it left you can shoot just as soon.
  3. This is one of those stupid (most likely) untended consequences that got "fixed" by making more rules that are even dumber for no reason. Yes per the rules the way they got written the bumps were correct, but I bet that nobody involved in writing them ever thought about these outcomes. My $.02 the rules should dictate where your equipment can be at the start signal, after the start signal if you want to move mags to other places or pick them up and carry them in your socks who cares?
  4. I agree to an extent, trying to hit the letter A on the target is not a good idea. I guess I could have explained my point better, I have seen several shooters that are struggling with consistent hits due to "aiming" at brown not "aiming" at the center of the A after a conversation about aiming at a spot not just brown they have generally had much improved hits without a notable time increase. I am by nature a Hoser and am constantly having to remind myself to put importance on shooting A's rather than just hammering away. PS good luck this week
  5. On the main OP subject of shooting faster splits more accurately, I have been working on this the last couple weeks and shooting a lot of doubles at various ranges, what has been working for me is to try different trigger finger positions, I personally found that moving my trigger finger in more and using the pad between the first and second knuckles gave me less sight movement and better hits, so don't be afraid to try different things. also don't be shy about spending a lot of ammo on figuring this stuff out. Like go to the range with 300 rounds (or whatever you can spare) and use it all shooting doubles on a target at 10 yards (or 7 or whatever you need to work on) do a bunch of reps and and see what the holes in the target are telling you works.
  6. one thing to go along with this is when you shoot a target don't shoot at the target shoot at a defined spot on the target, like the letter A in the A zone, the aim small miss small thing is real
  7. I found some 36/40 grit that seems to match skate tape pretty well, I'm not a big fan of the super chunky stuff you see lots of guys using, the finer git is still plenty grippy for me without being uncomfortable.
  8. I think your vacation analogy is a very good one, to do well in other divisions takes a bit of work but taking a break and playing in then wont hurt you other than the time away. Also you will likely be surprised how much of the core skills transcend equipment divisions.
  9. I believe shooting Open with the dot will in the long run improve your Limited shooting, I found it lets you work on some of the other aspects of the game easier and shooting target focused for me transferred back to my irons guns and I shoot them quicker and as accurately. shooting a revo for a while teaches you to grip harder all the time because you cant get away with a weak grip and a 6lb DA trigger. it can also teach you to make all your shots count, you will find many times with a revo where missing is just not a option so learning to see those situations and make the shots on demand is a good thing. All the above aside, to me avoiding burnout is a big deal, if it is something you are prone to and shooting other stuff and concentrating on the FUN aspect of the sport is probably a good idea.

  11. the bays are at about 45deg so not like Frostproof but I'm sure like everywhere depending on time of day and target location it could be a pain. I don't remember any issues with the sun at Either of the Area 1 Matches I shot there but those were earlier in the year so the sun was well up before shooting time.
  12. what if it was worded properly and the designer really didn't care where you put the gun or if the PCC guys got to take 1 less step.
  13. Don't worry you are by far not the first to have that thought.
  14. one thing to remember when looking at mounts for mini dots (like the RTS2) the ejection port moves so when its in battery it may be covering most of the port but when its ejecting the case it is behind the mount and open.
  15. I guess my point on table starts is hover or whatever (I like to touch the table with a finger or thumb so I'm not hovering) but then just pick it up like normal.
  16. Ok I agree my static model is too simplified, I see so many more open slides cracking at the ejection port than I do limited slides with both slides being milled similarly, it seems most likely to me that the portion of force that is forcing the barrel and breach apart is the likely culprit.
  17. L1 or L27 doesn't matter, doesnt say put them where you want. I get a big kick out of watching people hover right over the holster trying to have a faster draw, funny thing is they don't practice this way and more often than not its slower and they get a bad grip Also on table starts when guys try to game it by hovering they often rush the pickup and jack up their grip and spend more time dealing with that than just taking the time to pick the gun up normally. in my experience if you give shooters rope they are pretty quick to tie a noose around their own necks, so I just try to stick to what I practice and try to avoid tying knots
  18. Being built on a 10mm case I would not be surprised if the ejection pattern starts out better than most 9mm's 38 supers tend to eject better than 9 so with any luck the 10 case will as well. that said the easiest fix is to run a optic mount that does not cover the ejection port, then short of some horrific ejection issues once the case clears the slide it doesn't matter where it goes. 90 deg cmore mounts or mini dots seem to work very well for this.
  19. not quite true any more, with the recent updates to the classifier HHF's many of the fixed time classifiers now have lower HHF depending on division, some like Revo are much lower.
  20. yep 9 in a 40 = very low case pressure, I fail to see how that thought experiment is relevant or how it show the redirection of forces?
  21. I would be willing to bet if someone actually built a fixed test barrel and started doing Pezio pressure readings on 9mm Major loads a lot of people would be very very surprised at the readings. I would not be at all surprised to find that many 9mm Major loads are running north of 75,000 psi also for reference in this discussion a 40sw loaded to 40 KSI (5,00 over max) is only exerting 5500 pounds on the slide about 30% less than a likely best case 9mm major oddly they don't seem to break as often.
  22. False while the bullet resisting travel through acceleration, deformation and friction does cause the build up of pressure it does not change how that pressure acts. If a load has a peak pressure of 65 KSI it will try to push the breach face away from he barrel with about 7,800 lbs of force. Different loads with different case capacities and burn rates may create different peak pressures as well as different pressure curves that will have a impact on how much load is applied to the slide and how that load is applied both of witch can have an affect on how the slide will react to it.
  23. Are you running a extra power extractor spring? when I was having issues with extraction I changed to the Extra power spring and all the issues went away.
  24. All of mine look like you describe, as Jack said do they drop in the chamber? if so don't worry about it, Half my brass is coming up on 20 loadings and has looked like that since loading 1.
  25. I agree I was referring to the OP saying chamber pressure affected mostly the barrel
