The 5” KKM island barrel open guns I had were fast.

Barrel was 173 at the NC sectional match today and the gun loves that PF.

To those running coated Bullets….Do they clog up your comp at all?

SV takes orders on 9mm IMM all the time. They just prefer talking to the future gun owner first to make sure they understand reloading for 9mm Major. They don’t list it as an option on the gunbuilder but they sure are making them. My buddy just ordered one this week and another buddy is about half way in on his build. They run great too!

I have always found SV AET barrels to be somewhat slower than other barrels. Are the SVP similar or much different?

Just some rando guy on FB that mentioned it and another guy on IG. Was most likely a fluke. If adjusted properly and maintained I am sure it will be fine.

I have heard they last 2k rounds on an open gun but that seems kind of absurd.

I don't think it was mentioned here yet but Gans builds an absolute 110% gun. Never had a single malfunction with the two I owned. His prices are aggressive and turn around time is fast. Just a thought...

Give the FTP Alpha 3 a try if you do end up switching.

I have had both the Max and XL on open guns. The Max would be the one most would prefer if coming from an RTS2. There is a video discussion somewhere that Max uses to explain how the round shape is most natural to the eye, etc. I do like the Max but have found that depending on the load and gun the dot may stay in the glass 100% with the XL more than the Max. The little bit of extra width is nice. Most of my guns (CO and Open) have the 8 MOA FTP Alpha 3 on them and I would say it is more like the XL.

I have ran open guns well over 1,500 rounds with no cleaning. Just add oil and go. They always ran if mags were clean and ammo was correct. Before ammo was scarce a normal practice session was 750-800 rounds. Depending on powder they can get pretty nasty.

Haha. Me too. I enjoy the cleaning and it’s easy as there isn’t much build up when done often.

If you do your part and keep them maintained they run just like any other reliable platform. I’ve never had issues with 9mm open guns that weren’t caused by me, ammo, parts breaking, or poor maintenance. This would be the same for any gun.
