  1. Brahdahs an' Seestas you no even like me get started on da kine language an' pidgin kine words you going hear when you come Maui fo' shoot one match.
  2. Hoping for the best for you and the Mrs. and the future top junior at your club!
  3. On a previous test where I got a question wrong because I put in more info than they wanted, one of the ones where you just had to list which Appendix, and not the item number, I contacted Kim at the USPSA office by email and she got it corrected for me. Hope this helps.
  4. Even with my darker skin I worry about this, especially having spent so much time in the water out here where the sun is year round. I like the idea of a boonie hat but haven't found one yet that fits over my muffs without being too loose and flopping off when I move. And beat that BIG C, guy, I like reading your posts and hope to be doing so for a long time.
  5. LOL!!! Good one, but I donate enough to United Way already.
  6. I don't know...we're not allowed to have matches up at Haleakala National Park.
  7. Too many and not enough at the same time...if I attend all the matches we have (3-4 a month) I burn through components like way too quickly for timely replenishment as well as precluding doing any of the other things I like to do on my one day off a week, at the same time it's probably not enough to get me to a little higher placement in the match results, since matches are pretty much my only practice, too.
  8. I'm willing to bet there's some money to be made in those CR Speed pouch mounts if you got a 3D printer to pop them out with now that you've got the prototype.
  9. I HATE having to decide whether to do the right thing and squirreling away the tax refund for a rainy day or using it on one of the smoking deals in the classifieds!!!
  10. 115 grain MG hollowpoints or same weight Hornady XTP's, Single Stack minor, .38 Supercomp, over 4.6 grains of Bullseye.
  11. Um, how are you going to re-attach the rotor on the star when it breaks off the shaft from your nuclear powered ammo? Or are you just going to go last on every stage with a star so the hosts can repair it after the match?
  12. Well that was a waste of time, I was hoping for a better game. Denver sure seems to have saved it's worst game for last.
  13. Maybe kicking a dead horse...but.... It could be argued that all of the current "allowed" modifications do not follow the original John Browning design for the Colt manufactured pistol that has become known by it's military model designation, M1911, and was almost immediately modified by said U.S. military to the M1911A1 which is the configuration that most of us are familiar with. I believe the "intent" of the Single Stack Division was to return to what might be called the height of the revered Col. Jeff Cooper's era of practical pistol competition, where the 1911 with curved, lengthened yet lightened triggers, flared and curved "beavertail" grip safeties, lightened "Commander" style hammers, milled in target style sights, checkered mainspring housings and front straps, and added on magwells represented the very pinnacle of a "practical" pistol. That being said, the rules governing USPSA's Single Stack division are sufficiently "loose" enough to accommodate those past modifications, current iterations of those modifications and many others that allow significantly different model variants of the original Colt pistol to also play, i.e. the Commander and Officer's models. Returning to the thoughts of this thread, the rules laid out in Appendix D5 of the USPSA Handgun Competition Rules, February 2014 Edition allow for: 21) ...Duplicating features that are on a factory, mass produced slide available to the general public is permitted. Cuts that are designed to specifically or significantly lighten the slide, such as holes, or slots, are ruled as competitive advantage and prohibited. The second sentence that modifies the premise of the first would be my first bone of contention as it can be argued that both the Commander and Officer's models have "significantly" lightened slides by design. It also means that the S&W Performance Center SW1911s, SKU#'s 170343 and 170344 aren't legal despite being factory produced albeit factory custom models. Exclusion of two models can be seen as insignificant, all things considered, but does point to the unintended consequence of prohibiting a proven modification started in the crucible of competition that has been adopted by a major manufacturer. In the context of what SS division guns represent historically, this at least to me, warrants a blink or two. While I am aware that this rule was intended primarily to address the modifications of flat and "tri" topping slides, ejection port lowering and flaring, as well as gripping serrations, perhaps the rule could have been tightened up in wording to address just those modifications. 22) Coned barrels, bull barrels, or barrels with flanges, except in 1911 compact pistols with a barrel length of 4.20 inches or less. (Note: All other barrels must have barrel bushings and conform to factory profile). Of note here, and I'm wondering if the 4.20 inch measurement was a deliberate "gaming" inclusion given that the original Officer's model barrel length is much shorter (3.50 inch) and was the first to have a factory provided coned barrel if you discount Detonics Corporation as a major manufacturer. 4.20 inches is .050 inches shorter than the nominal length of a Commander length barrel and by my measurements on a Commander barrel and slide I have would be eminently "do-able" as a Commander configured, bull barreled, railed frame SS gun. Original Colt Commanders are bushing barreled guns but other major manufacturers make bull barreled guns. Of course they also now make bull barreled Government length models as well as six inch ones but that would be a whole other discussion, which would encompass the inclusion of other makes of single column magazine guns as well as modular iterations of the John Browning design - say a 2011 with a single column magazine grip. So bringing this discourse (can you tell I'm just killing time until the Super Bowl?) back around to the premise of my previous post, if SV, STI, or who knows? S&W? SIgarms? Ruger? Para? Taurus? were to make a run or introduce as a standard model a Sight Tracker in Commander length slide, with a 4.20 inch barrel and squared dust cover or rail cut at 3.25 inches from the rear of the slide stop pin, could a case be made for it as a legitimate Single Stack Division gun? From here I can't see much competitive advantage afforded by the extra slide lightening that wasn't negated by the shorter sight radius. En masse movement to such a gun in Single Stack would be far from Borg-like inevitable, and under the rules you couldn't have a Government length Sight Tracker due to rule 22's measurement and "barrel bushings...factory profile" wording. It would afford competitors the leeway for different "takes" on a "practical" Single Stack, as well as affording ways for those of us (uh-huh, me too) who LIKE to continue fiddling with our bows and arrows despite the adage of "it's the Indian, not the arrow...."
  14. The walls we staple targets to are purpose built to get shot up, and we only use them for places where it might be to tight to put stands down, or as in this case, I want to obscure downrange portions of the stage. Most of our walls are "see-through" plastic safety fencing type because of the wind conditions at our range, and when we do put up a solid wall it usually needs extra bracing and stuff that's not illustrated in the stage diagram.
  15. I'm not sure if the barrel would be illegal, but the cut for it in the slide would definitely be. If you could somehow convince SV to make a run of commander Sight Trackers with 4.20 inch barrels, I think it would make for a lively discussion.
  16. Fastest 1911/2011 field strip ever. Worth it? ABSOLUTELY.
  17. And my cleaned up Powerpoint presentation, "Stage Designer 14.01.01" for those, like me, who haven't yet switched to Sketch-Up: 1 Stage Designer 14.01.01.ppt
  18. I can never think of anything to flame on here...I guess living on Maui makes it impossible to stay mad at anything....
  19. Been kicking this idea around for awhile, finally got down to putting it to paper and now for all the prep work...I gotta keep up with all the new stage designers we have in the club now who're making my past stuff seem really lame. Wish me luck. The Lord Of The Rings Match: The Nazgul.DOC Henneth Anuun.DOC The Mines Of Moria.DOC Helm's Deep.DOC
  20. Does she do windows? Just askin'....
  21. If you cut a coil it reduces the tension so much the last round might not feed...found out when I had my Edge. They made the spring so it would be ten rounds and no more. If you can find a softer spring that will fit (Chip McCormick .38 Super?) you might get it to work, I used that one mag I had as my barney mag, loaded with nine rounds, and found some of the old style dimpled 10 rounders for stage use. Sold the Edge before I could experiment with different springs.
  22. My Taurus in .38 Super shoots pretty good (although I've replaced all the fire control parts with my preferred stuff) so pretty sure the 9mm version would work also. I got mine for $538 from a dealer in Texas who lists them on another site, primarily because it was a close-out model. Prices for Taurus guns have been rising, but the quality is good and you can get it with an SS-legal rail which adds enough weight to make minor 115 gr loads seem like dry-fire with noise. You will have to save weight somewhere else (I replaced the full length guide rod with a plastic short one, and got the aluminum mainspring housing Dawson Ice gap magwell) but it comes in at 42.5 oz on my postal scale which I checked with my reloading check weights. You'll have to look for a holster, but since I ordered mine from Bladetech they now have a mold so should be no problem. Mine is in stainless so no worries about the finish wear, blued guns are cheaper but like the Trojans everyone has mentioned, it probably won't last that long. Compact Novak style sights have shot to point of aim and are surprisingly easy pick up on the draw and transitions, and leave a lot of target visible around them. The best thing about shooting a Taurus may be the built in excuse to walk up and introduce yourself to Jessie Duff at a match and compliment her and her sponsor's guns.
  23. The thing that picture says to me is get that chile some eye and ear protection! Yah, I know it's a vintage photo from before we knew about such things...good thing we know better now.
  24. Yah, lost a good one when he passed away. One of the best concerts I ever went to was one he put on that was supposed to be outdoors but got moved to the then Honolulu International Center arena which would normally charge $50.00 (in 1970's dollars) for floor seating and the promoter let it be first come first served, sit where you like except the upper bleachers! Nobody argued with that and we had a grand ol' time. Back up was a band called Fool's Gold that was great on his songs but whose own stuff sucked, but I guess it would be unfair to compare their songsmiths to someone of Dan's caliber. I think he played for like 3 hours. I drive the rest of the guys in the shop crazy playing his CD's all day long on my boombox.
