  1. I just got one of these after spending the past several years shooting 1911 and 2011. Going back to basics if you will.... I think they are a great choice. Dawson sights, a little polishing on the internals, and a 4.5lb striker spring are all the upgrades that I have planned for mine. For holsters a good choice is blade tech or comp tac - mount it to a Boss hanger from the Ben Stoeger proshop. I have been using a Double Alpha belt with Double Alpha mag pouches, but the cheaper GHOST brand mag pouches work fine as well.
  2. Thank you - we have a group of volunteers that works very hard to put on a good match. We usually run 5 stages and a classifier. I often put a quick speed shoot in with the classifier to give people a warm up and also to help with match flow. We open registration on Practiscore the Sunday before the match at 8:00 PM. Match starts promptly at 11:00 AM and usually runs to around 3:00. Here is an example of one of last year's matches. October 2018 Match Stages
  3. I haven't noticed that being an issue. I do really like how far that leg of the mount sticks down tho - really adds rigidity to the system.
  4. Here is our 2019 schedule - third Saturday of the month from March to November weather permitting.
  5. Boss Hanger from Ben Stoeger Pro Shop is a good choice for a hanger.
  6. I might be willing to switch my club over to IPSC since I can't get them to send me a copy of the new USPSA rulebook.
  7. A lot of folks have recommended the Sig Max but I don't consider that a 1911 as it has the external extractor. I would recommend an STI TROJAN from Dawson Precision if they still have some. Get it from them with their tuning package and you can just shoot it and shoot it with no issues. I have had mine for about 4 years now and can't say one bad word about it - I use the Dawson magazines which I think are Metalform mags with the Dawson basepads. My gun runs my 147 gr and 135 gr reloads fine - has been very accurate and is a pleasure to shoot.
  8. Thanks for the info - I am going to set up a G5 17 and assume it will be similar.
  9. How did you like the 15lb recoil spring? Were you shooting 130 ish power factor ammo? Any idea what it came with stock? Thanks!
  10. Fiber optic front and plain rear is what I have been using. https://dawsonprecision.com/new-dawson-precision-glock-gen5-g17-g19-mos-non-co-witness-fixed-sight-set-black-rear-fiber-optic-front/
  11. Thank you guys for commenting - pretty much confirms what I was thinking.
  12. Which of the Gen 5 Glocks would you choose for Production division? I'd like to have front cocking serrations and I'd like to avoid that cutout in the front of the magwell. Historically I have shot my 17's better than my 34's so there is that to consider as well. Based on those requirements it seems like the Gen 5, Glock 17 MOS would be my only choice. Does the MOS plate limit me on aftermarket sights? Is that a correct assumption or is there another model I should be considering?
  13. Awesome! This is my new Single Stack gun for sure!
  14. 500 guns a year is a lot for a custom shop.
  15. Good news guys - we're shooting El Pres again this week!
  16. Hi there - hope you are having nice weather in Tampa - it is cold in Pennsylvania.
  17. IDPA is definitely worth trying. FYI - they will not let you use an appendix holster.
  18. JJB05 is a friend of mine and described the two issues. Luckily enough for me my gun has been great - reliable and accurate and works with any old mag I put in it whether it be a new tuned SVI from Atlas or an old STI one that I had been using with my Edge. Maybe Atlas has grown so quickly that they are struggling to keep their QC up as they try to meet the demand? The biggest issue I have had with them is their 60 day delivery guarantee (or 90 day depending on what day of the week it is). They missed the deadline on my gun which caused me to not shoot a sectional match. They also missed (by a wide margin) the deadline on another friend's gun. I don't know why they persist with these deadlines. I think they would do better to just be honest and tell folks that the guns will be sent out when they are done.
  19. Those fault lines are illegal. That is NOT a USPSA match if that's how they are doing things.
  20. Yes, I have over 20k on my Atlas Titan. It's been a good gun. Was reliable and accurate from the day I got it. I got mine a while ago (sub 100 serial number). I have had a couple friends who have gotten them recently and it seems like they are growing faster than they can keep up with quality control. Both of these guys have had to send their guns back basically as soon as they received them. It's unfortunate, because I think part of the reason they got them was the fact that they shot mine and saw that it was a very reliable gun.
  21. I have had to throw out a classifier because it was set up incorrectly. It stinks, but what else can you do. We have a dedicated group of volunteers that helps us setup our stages and it's my job as the match director to make sure they are right (especially the classifiers) before the match begins. In three years of running matches it has only happened once so I guess that isn't too bad, but it was still disappointing.
  22. Thank you. Like a lot of people who have had it I wonder why I waited so long.
  23. Most of the pros carry some type of Glock 9mm. 2011's and 1911's are great competition guns but there are better options these days for a carry gun.
  24. I got a couple Trojans from Dawson that were "competition ready". They have all been good guns for me. The only issue I have had was a broken slide stop on my 45 ACP.
