  1. I've just started listening to that advice myself and it has worked great! Now, I just have to remember it and make it standard operating procedure.
  2. Gorgeous! Thank you for satisfying our need to see pictures
  3. Thank you for the link. Definitely going to check them out.
  4. Thank you for the heads up. I was just at Cabela's yesterday, but nothing wrong with going 2 days in a row
  5. I have been very happy with these folks, both in price and service: http://www.letargets.com/#
  6. Pictures! Must . . . have . . . pictures! Seriously though, congratulations. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts as you continue to break it in.
  7. Welcome back! Looking forward to learning from you.
  8. I'm probably over cautious, but I even wiggle the firearm around a little bit in the holster before I'm confident it is locked in (open gun and Safariland 014 holster). But, being human like everyone else, I'm sure I will forget sometime and won it will go.
  9. I have never shot a sanctioned IDPA match. The IDPA group in our area shoots on a day/time that I can not make. That said, we have a club that does "defensive pistol" shoots. It is patterned after IDPA, but a little looser on the rules. I have shot that a couple of times and enjoyed it. As others said, they are different games, but both can be very fun. Depends on what you are looking for.
  10. You've heard the opinion of folks who are good My opinion as someone who enjoys USPSA and Steel Challenge, wants to get better, but has no goal of being "that" good, I really like my STIs. I have heard from several that SVIs are better and have no doubt that they are, but for my goals, I can't justify the cost. I'll just make sure to have enough friends that have them so that I can shoot them now and then
  11. Very nice guns and really nice case!
  12. Honestly, my first thought was "holy cow, this guy is good!" I'm with you on the weight - losing weight and getting in better overall shape is my #1 goal for my shooting (and life in general). Your reloads looked good, but seem like they could be faster. How? Not sure, other than anticipating the reload. Other than that, I look forward to hearing the thoughts who are far better and more experienced than me. Looking forward to seeing future videos showing your improvement.
  13. I have an 014 and love it too. I don't have the "digging in" problem that you mentioned. I'd be curious to know if you still have the problem after trying what Bamboo suggested.
  14. Well done for her! Kudos to both of you for being involved in the shooting sports together. Although I'm more consistently accurate than my wife with both pistol and rifle, I've been shooting WAY longer than she has. It won't be long until she is better than me. Several instructor friends of mine have said that, overall, women are better shooters than men because they are willing to listen to instruction and let the ego to
  15. Welcome! I am in Grand Rapids and shoot at SouthKent. Looking forward to seeing you there. When you have a moment, PM me your name. I'll look for you. Also, make sure to check out the steel challenge matches the 1st Saturday of the month. Have fun!
  16. Glad to hear you enjoyed it! I usually bring at least 150-200 rounds more than I "need". So far I have not come close to needing that much extra, but on one particularly bad day I used a good 75-100 Looking forward to hearing reports of your future matches. Have fun!
  17. Please make sure to share your thoughts after running a few hundred rounds through it. I'm anxious to here real life experiences with the open model.
  18. I have Trijicon HDs on my Glock 19 and love them. Sorry in advance for a stupid question, but can the HDs from my 19 fit a 43?
  19. Congratulations to both of you! True friendship is the foundation of a great marriage. We are only a few years behind you (13 years this year). Wishing you many more happy years together!
  20. Welcome to the club - great to hear you had a good time! I have to admit that I have had few hobbies/sports where I have met so many genuinely nice people. Only thing that came close was private pilots . . . and there are even a few pilots who shoot regularly at our matches. Looking forward to reading your progress. Have fun!
  21. Welcome to the forums and to the sport! Like others have said, we have all had our humble pie. In fact, I sometimes feel like I not only ate one, but am cooking the next one to eat Enjoy and have fun!
  22. As relatively new myself I say a huge "ditto" to the great advice already given. I was a little "shy" at first, so I went to a USPSA match and just watched. I mentioned it to the folks at the beginning and they suggested which squad to follow and even introduced me to someone who was kind enough to ask if I had any questions and talked through each course of fire with me. It made me feel a lot more comfortable at the first match I actually participated in.
  23. Ha! Science and Star Wars in one photo - I love it!
  24. This. I started with a grip similar to Vogel's, but I just couldn't get it to work. I'm certainly not a prime human specimen, if you know what I mean, so that could be part of it. I've been watching Max Michel's grip/stance and trying to do the same. So far, I like it better and the results are no worse. Time will tell.
