2011 High Plains Shooting Challenge
Don_B replied to bigbrowndog's topic in Multi-Gun, Rifle & Shotgun Match Announcements
Every body has to be good at something For the very small 4 moa tgts, do we need to bring smaller bullets? I don't think the choke will work with smaller bullets. -
I shot my first Nationals at Pasa Park with Jim and have shot many, many matches with him since then. We always had a great time. RIP Don Bednorz

You did not specify if you are shooting 38 super or 9mm. I have been shooting a IMM 9mm for several years and have 2 hybrid ports. It will be difficult to make major in 9mm with more than 2 ports. In 38 super you can definitely have 3 or more ports. My original 38 super IMM had 6 ports! It was extremely flat shooting but also EXTREMELY loud. Just be aware that the more ports you have the more powder you will have to use which will result in a louder gun. You can always put more ports in a gun but it will be dificult to take any of them out. The slide on a IMM is already as light as it should be. You will lose reliability if you go lighter. Don

2011 High Plains Shooting Challenge

Hey Don, it's not just Trapr and Kurt you have to worry about. The whole crew down here in OKC is pretty twisted when it comes to setting up a match! I too will be shooting Rimfire Limited with my trusty Nordic Components .22. You're right Mike, I should have said "Kurt Trapr and crew". It was not intentional to exclude any of the devious minds. :-) Just didn't want to scare too many people! -
2011 High Plains Shooting Challenge
Don_B replied to bigbrowndog's topic in Multi-Gun, Rifle & Shotgun Match Announcements
My app is in the mail and I can't wait to shoot my Nordic Components 22lr. I am not worried about the plates falling, I am just worried about being able to hit them after Trapr and Kurt get through setting up the stages! Seriously, if these guys set up a match it will be right. Bring what you want to shoot and worry about your shooting, not the stages. Can't wait. -

Bummer man. I just got about 4k once fired range brass, and hand sorted out the junk (S&B, mostly). However, the majority of the brass is PMC. I'm shooting minor now, and the PMC has be great. Why is it no good for 9 major? PMC is OK for minor, I use it for loads around 150 pf but it appears to be too soft for major loads. I have 7 PMC cases on my reloading bench that look like belted magnum cases. I don't have pictures but I did take some measurements. The rim on a 9mm is app. .388 to .390, on the most deformed case the area just in front of the extractor groove measures .419. This case almost blew out. The other cases measure from .392 to .404. These loads were shot in a SV IMM with 2 hybrid holes. I have been shooting Major 9 for over 5 years and have very few issues with it as long as I use good brass, Win & RP seem to be the best for me. And yes I will pick up my brass and reload it several times. My load is 8.5 of HS6 with a 124 Montan Gold JHP. I can use small pistol primers with this load and do not get any signs of over pressure.

S&B brass should go in the trash. You also want to stay away form PMC brass for Major 9!!

Well what a BUMMER!!! We showed up on Friday to look at the stages and I managed to throw my back out. Had to leave Sat. morning to get back to my Dr. I was very disappointed in not being able to shoot the match, the stages all looked great. Finally today I am able to get off the couch and sit in front of the computer long enough to look at the scores. Congratulations to all the winners. Also a big thank you to all the people that worked so hard to put this match together. Maybe next year, Don

What can you even say? I have no words that express how I feel. Our sincere condolences to Vicki and the rest of Eddie's family -
Brian, You are in our thoughts and prayers. This is a very tough time, I went through this last year with my dad so I know what you are coping with. Be strong. Don

North, Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Please let me know if I can do anything to help.

How do you run right to left with a long gun?
Don_B replied to Religious Shooter's topic in Rifle & Shotgun - Technique
If I am only moving a short distance I will hold the rifle in my strong hand like Chris described. If I am moving a pretty good distance or over uneven ground I will grab the rifle with my left hand like Jason described. I feel I have better control and more room for error with the left hand hold. -
Johnson 3-Gun 2009

A BIG THANK YOU to JJ, Denise, all the ROs and everyone else that made this match work. What a great match! There was a good mix in the stages. Accuracy- offhand shooting- speed, some where you really had to think and some that were just plain fun. I have shot a 50 BMG at a match before but never a Red Ryder! And now I have my very own to practice with. Squad 4 was a fantastic bunch to shoot with also. Don -
Ditto on sending it to Beven. I have about 5000 rounds through mine now and it is great. He also does a awesome job on machining the slide. I take mine off anytime and never worry about the zero.

Gary, I am sorry for your loss, my thoughts and prayers are with you. I lost my Dad in Sept so I know what an emotional ordeal you are going through. It is tough but you just have to hang in there. Don B

I shot the entire 2008 match with Montana Gold 55 grain FMJ. I had 2 extra shots on the 600 yard target and no extra shots on the 400 yard target. No problems with any targets as long as I had the crosshairs where they needed to be. FWIW- I get 1/2" groups at 100 yards with H335 and the Montana Gold 55 FMJ. I almost hate to admit it but Kurt is right on the wind drift.
-
Jim, I will have to get some tips from you on the 600 yd target. Trapr, I have not been to Germany but they do enjoy the ale in UK. Larry, I think I will wuss out and just stay with open this time. I don't think I will be quite up to Tacital yet. Looking forward to visiting with everyone next week. I know they won't hear it enough so I would like to thank JJ, Denise and everyone else that is working their butts off.

Trapr would cause all kinds of trouble just to get someone to buy him a drink!!!! I have not been able to shoot a gun for 6 months due to neck surgery and I am going to one of the best if not THE BEST 3 gun match in the country so I don't care if I have to shoot open division with single action guns! I am going to be there and having fun. :-)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
