  1. Trapr would cause all kinds of trouble just to get someone to buy him a drink!!!! I have not been able to shoot a gun for 6 months due to neck surgery and I am going to one of the best if not THE BEST 3 gun match in the country so I don't care if I have to shoot open division with single action guns! I am going to be there and having fun. :-)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
  2. What if I load to 1.180" with 121s? Maybey I will have to pick up a 1# and see. Harmon - Did you like it or better stuff out there? 10 grains of AA#7 with a 124 Montana Gold JHP loaded to 1.170 gave me a 170 power factor in my IMM with 2 ports. It is very slightly compressed.
  3. I do not have any data on minor loads but I do have a major load. 5.7 of Unique with a 180 JHP Montana Gold will give me 930 fps and 167 power factor out of a 5" SV, loaded to 1.170. This will at least give you some idea where to go down from.
  4. Only 1 month and 10 days left. Not that I am counting!! Hope everyone has fun and shoots to the best of their ability. :-)
  5. Yet another good 3 gun match I will have to miss while the neck surgery heals. 1month and 11 days till the Dr. releases me.
  6. Kurt, I am about 2 months ahead of you and know exactly how you feel about our youth catching up to us. I was not able to shoot the MM3G this year because I had c4-c7 fused on Feb 4. I have been in a neck brace 24/7 since that time, just 11 more days left until I can (hopefully) stop wearing it. At least 3 more months until I can start shooting. So my advise to you is when you decide to have the surgery make up your mind that your life will change for the recovery period and then you just have to ride it out. And trust me it is not easy, you will get to a point where you feel like you are just using up oxygen that someone else could put to better use. I am not trying to discourage you or talk you out of the surgery but I just want to give you a heads up on the difficulties ahead. I wish you the best of luck and a speedy recovery. Don
  7. OK, a couple things, first, the screw in the middle of the trigger actually does 2 things. It's main purpose is to set the overtravel but with the SV trigger it is also used to secure the interchangable trigger shoe. Next you need to adjust the overtravel. When you start turning this screw in you must be aware that too much force will actually push the entire trigger shoe off of the trigger bow. This may be what has already happened and could be the source of your trouble. Also be aware that either not enough or too much overtravel can both cause problems. Anyway, to adjust the overtravel, as always make sure the gun is unloaded. Then you start turning the screw in a little at a time - about 1/2 turn - and then pull the trigger. If the hammer falls go another 1/2 turn, try the trigger again. Continue to do this only until the hammer will not fall when the trigger is pulled. Now turn the screw out about 1/4 turn and pull the trigger. Do this until the hammer falls. You have now reached the point where the overtravel will just allow the sear to release the hammer, now turn the screw out 1 to 1 1/2 turns, this should give you sufficeint overtravel. Once you have the overtravel where you want it the screw should have a small amount of blue locktite applied. I would also suggest that you completely disassemble the pistol including taking the grip off so you can inspect the parts. You need to inspect the hammer, sear and also make sure the trigger shoe is tight on the trigger bow. If you are not comfortable with doing this I would strongly suggest taking it to a gunsmith or someone that is familiar with this type of pistol since mistakes in this area can result in a dangerous situation. Hope this helps.
  8. One other thing that is often overlooked is the overtravel screw on the trigger. If it has moved in and shortened the overtravel excessively that will cause the sear to hit the halfcock notch on the hammer and slow the hammer down. I have seen this happen many times and it is often overlooked. You need to have approximately 1/8 inch of overtravel on the trigger. If this is happening you can see the marks on the hammer and sear.
  9. Just from looking at the photos of the seperated cases it appears that the cases may not be supported properly. May be something you want to check. I have been shooting Major 9 for over 2 years and have not had anything like that.
  10. Excessive overtravel will definitely cause this. Make sure it is adjusted properly.
  11. Sharon and I would like to offer our condolences to the Leatham family. Nyle was a wonderful person and will leave a void that will be impossible to fill. I had the opportunity to visit with Nyle many times and enjoyed everyone of them. For several years Carol and Nyle took photos of all the shooters at the Desert Classic and then made sure each shooter got his picture. I still have those and now they mean even more to me. 12. OK, I couldn't be 1st in the Open Division but at least I will be the 1st Open shooter to respond! Rifle: JP Ctr-02 with a 20" barrel, Weaver 2-10 scope with a JPoint on the side. Shotgun:Remington 1100 with a 28" barrel ported by me, a Dr Sight installed by Bevin Grams and a Arrendondo Speedloader Assist Bracket.
  13. I was thinkin' it looked like an arm-chair... I'll bet it is an arm chair......................with wheels, very fast wheels.
  14. Does anyone else wonder about a map to the range. There was not one in my packet and I did not find anything on the USSA website. A lot of people have not been there before and will need directions.
  15. Does anyone know how the rain and flooding has affected the range?
  16. The time + penalties is not a perfect scoring system either. I have "heard" that a person could be dropped from 2nd place to 12th place by a glitch in the scoring program. I would like to thank all of the staff and workers at the match. You did an outstanding job! Everyone was very professional and acted like they were glad we were there inspite of the terrible heat. PS. Next time someone drops a hint like "know your zero" make sure you "know your zero" for close range as well as for long range. Mine was right where I was holding not where I was looking!!
  17. You have said that you are using a 38 super breechface and then you said you are using a 9mm breechface. I bet you have a 38 super breechface and are not getting enough extractor tension because of it. The breechface will be marked, you do not have to take it out of the slide to check that. Make sure it is a 9mm. If you do have a SV slide I do not believe you will find any burrs or rough spots in the extractor tunnel.
  18. I am going to vote for Chris also!
  19. One great big "atta boy" for the San Angelo Club. That was the most fun (and sometimes frustrating) matchs I have been to. The frustrating part was self induced. The roller coaster stage was absolutly the best! Great match and great job! Don
  20. Hi all, I just had an email asking if our match was going to be cancelled. We will definitly have the match and I feel sure that those who can make it will enjoy the match. Come have fun if you can. Don
  21. OK guys and gals, the response so far has been disappointing, it is really making us wonder if the work will be worth it if we do not get quite a few more shooters. If you are interested in shooting the match please get an entry form in ASAP.
  22. That sounds great Liota, we are looking forward to having the "San Angelo Gang" back. We will also be at your match the weekend before.
  23. The New Mexico 3 Gun Match will be held May 28-29. The entry form is on our website-opshooter.org
  24. The New Mexico 3 Gun Championship will be held May 28&29. More info later.
