  1. I've used Power Pistol in my 929 with a .358 160 grain bullet (Black bullets and Bayou's) with good success. 3.8 grains seated to 1.160 oal gives me a 130.5 pf. I'm using that same powder charge in my XDM 5.25 with a .356 147 grain bullet seated at 1.140 oal and getting a 129 pf. I've found Power Pistol to be very versatile and accurate in 38 short colt....9 mm and 45 acp. There maybe better powders for reduced recoil...less noise and flash and a multitude of other reasons but I have a bunch of it that needs to be shot up and it works pretty good for me.
  2. Witnessed this happen to a PCC shooter while ROing a stage. Ruined his day. +1 on tossing them !
  3. +1 That's one of the reasons I stop using it....it's very accurate but I didn't like the smell.
  4. Just ran a cylinder full of Bayou 160 grain .358 RN through my 929 yesterday using 2.6 grains of Clays....1.162 oal. Didn't notice any smoke and was happy with how clean the fired cases were. Plan to do more testing with this load for Powder Factor an accuracy.
  5. For my 929 it has to be RN...either 147 or 160 grain just for the speed of reloading on the clock. For the XDM 5.25 it eats anything I feed it...but it is the most accurate shooting 147 grain RNFP. I like the feel of the heaver bullet on recoil and feel more confident when trying to knock down steel.
  6. +1 !!!! ??? Bullseye or Titegroup ???
  7. And I clean after every trip to the range. After some 6000 or so rounds the 929 shows no adverse affects of using Hoppes and a brass brush
  8. 147 grain bullets have been the most accurate in my XDM 5.25.
  9. 3.8 grains of Powder Pistol pushing a 147 grain .358 round nose Blue Bullet. 3.2 grains of N320 with same bullet. OAL is 1.145. I've tried other brands of powder and bullet weights with range brass and have never had a problem with brass sticking. The cylinder is stock....no polishing or chamfering. The Starline brass is 9mm +p ....if that makes a difference ??? Everything is loaded on a Dillon 550 with Dillon 9mm dies. .
  10. I use Starline brass with the .040 Revolver Supply extreme moon clips and 147 grain round nose. There is less wobble with this combination. The .035 moon clips are OK for practice with range brass.
  11. My 929 has been a joy to shoot over the past year with a variety of powders, bullet shapes, sizes and weights in both 9mm and 38 short colt. My current 9mm load for USPSA is a .358 147 grain Round Nose Blue Bullet (excellent price and very accurate) 3.8 grains of Powder Pistol (because I have a lot of it) Winchester small pistol primers, OAL 1.145, Starline Brass an Revolver Supply .040 extreme moon clips with a power factor of 132. This combination loads very fast, extracts easily and will shoot 0.875 inch 8 shot groups at 15 yard consistently...if I do my job. "Should I try a 929 (again)?".....Heck Yes !!!! We only have so many weekends left !
  12. USPSA Rule Book Appendix D6--Revolver Division "maximum of 6 rounds fired before reload if Major PF declared 8 if Minor PF declared."
  13. The 627 is more versatile than the 625 and holds more bullets but the 929 is a lot of fun and has become my choice for competition. With that said...if I could only have one it would be the 627.
  14. And to make matters worse....my gunsmith told me that people in my line of work shouldn't work on guns. Thanks !...LOL !
  15. Revolver Supply can take care of all your needs when it comes to moon clips and accessories. I made my de-mooning tool out of a golf club handle...works great and saved myself some money. An action job would be money well spent and Blade-Tech makes a good holster. Good Luck with your new 929.
  16. .358 160 grain Bayou Bullet 3.1 grains N320 WSP primer COL 1.160 8 shots from 929 average 830 fps pf 132.8 Burns extremely clean and groups 1 inch and smaller at 15 yards.
  17. .358 160 grain Bayou Bullet 3.1 grains N320 WSP primer COL 1.160 8 shots from a 929 averaged 830 fps....pf 132.8 Burns extremely clean and groups 1 inch and smaller at 15 yards.
  18. Watch, listen and learn from people better and more knowledgeable than you has always worked for me in any sport.
  19. Just recently completed an RO class and passed the test. So now I'm a RRO (Rookie Range Officer) Not quite ready for the Big Time. I'm glad the class took two days....there is so much information that an abbreviated course...IMO would lack some important information. I'd like to THANK Eric and Kathy Hill for organizing the certification class and Carl Schmidt for his professional instruction of the course.
  20. Although very accurate in my 929 Titegroup makes all my coated bullets smell like burnt automotive wire. N320 is now my first choice for coated 147 and 160 grain bullets.
  21. I've tried shooting 38 short colts in my 929 without moonclips with mixed results...yes it can be done but I've found it not very dependable.
  22. Brass sticking in my 929 has never been an issue...maybe just Lucky. I shoot 9mm mixed brass and Winchester 38 special cases trimmed to Short Colt length both with a variety of different powders...bullet weight and diameters and OAL...looking for that magic load....and have found a few. After 2500 plus rounds extraction has never been a problem. I do clean my brass before reloading and the 929 gets cleaned also. I use old formula Hoppe's #9 (because I have about a gallon of it) to clean the barrel and cylinder and only lightly lubricate the ejector rod and crane. My 929 has been a real pleasure to load for and shoot. The only problem I've had is with the guy pulling the trigger.
  23. The key word here is "Fun". AzShooter...Just thought I'd let you know I've enjoyed reading and learning from your experience and past posts...especially the 929. Thanks for your contributions to the game.
