  1. Chris, You at home? I'm working, if your at home, I'll swing by to check out this mag! Bob
  2. I don't think the Armalite will give you enough eye relief. I felt the same way, my buddy uses the SPR-E. I went with a RRA Scout mount for the eye relief, and Warne steel medium height rings. About $100 total. The advantage of the LaRue is it is quick detachable and then return to zero. My Scout mount is a little slower, using a screw driver, but it has returned to zero for me. I have heard, but have no experience, that the YHM mount is not as solid as the RRA Scout. It's price is right, though. As to height, I had Warne high, but switched to medium. Just right for me. The height of your riser/scout base will dictate what rings to get, though.
  3. The Trijicon rep at Ft. Benning also said it was supposed to be a 30mm tube.
  4. I looked thru one at a 3 gun match last summer. The guy with it said his son sent it to him from Iraq after his unit had tested, then surplused them. I thought it looked perfect for 3 gun. It had the Millett DMS reticle, but without the partial crosshairs, and a little more mag. on the top end. More robust than the Millett or Meopta, felt like a S&B Short dot. If this could be had in the same price range as the Meopta ($700-$800) I think it would be a superior 3 gun optic. For that price, I could roll the dice with 5 Milletts. If IRC, the dot was either a 1 or 2 MOA, I don't know about the outer circle.
  5. I got Midway's flyer last night, and they are on sale for $199 again. I got a 2nd gen with the illumination knob on the side, and my illum. is visible in bright daylight. The 1st gen. I had prior to it did not have visible illum. in the day. If you are able, it appears you will need to check several to find one that has the illum. you want. XPD54 and I went to Ft. Benning, and the day before we left, his DMS-1 crapped out. It would not dial down magnification below 4x; if turned down, the view thru the scope went totally out of focus. I was looking thru it, and saw several pieces of what looked like bits of steel wool floating around inside. Millet's customer service is supposed to be top notch, though. I like mine, but keep crossing my fingers. I do wish I had kept my Weaver V3 for a backup.
  6. Bob, What about 2008? I thought the same thing about the M4! I watched video of me on the stage, and remember pulling the trigger, then reaching for the safety, then deciding to pull harder!
  7. I made that suggestion to Jeff, but still acknowledge it was my fault. I do like the soft lined barrels they use at the Brighton MI 3 gun. I love my Saiga, but will watch out for that big mag rolling the gun off the table.
  8. Well I'll admit it, I was one of the DQ's. Totally my fault. It was stage 9, with the 80 yard plate rack. I mow down the shotgun targets, put the saiga on safe, and when I get to the table, as I was putting it on the table, the foot-long mag touches the table first, the gun goes over on it's side, and just levers off the mag and rolls off the table. I saw it going, and reached back for it and get my hands on it just as it makes contact with the ground. I was just going too fast. Everyone from the RO to the MD were very apologetic. I finally had to tell everyone to quit apologizing, and thank them for a great match. I got to shoot 7 of 9 stages, but missed the boat and the shoot from the tower on stage 1. First time in my life I've been DQ'd. Learning experience, but wished it had happened somewhere else. I think I was going to finish well in open too.
  9. I presently run a RRA 16" midlength gas barrel that is heavy under the HG's, with a FF tube, Millet DMS in Warne steel rings on a RRA Scout mount. The thing is heavy. I wanted to turn the barrel down to a Gov't profile, like a Colt 6551, but the local smith said I would mess up the barrel harmonics. Any issues you all see in turning this barrel, or should I just re-barrel it?
  10. Kamicosmos, Did you get the newer model with the side mounted IR control, or the older top mounted one?
  11. Could anyone in the know post the street address for the club that I can plug into mapquest. The address on the site is a business mailing, not a physical. Thanks Bob
  12. I believe that is Cathy, the most popular covergirl in the BP's history. She was on a cover leaning into the engine compartment of a Ford GT that was turned into a life-sized poster. There was a red head on several covers a couple years ago named Megan that was WOW! But Cathy is great too.
  13. Very cool match! Well worth the trip up. If anyone is within driving distance of this match they should come check it out. The staff put a lot of time and effort into it, and the props were outstanding. I wish I was closer than 3 1/2 hours away, I would definitely make this an every-month thing. We shot with Jeff and Cameron, Jeff too bad you had to jet after the 2nd stage, the others were pretty cool. The toughest shots of the day were the plate rack at 100 yds. Know your zero from 10-100 yds!
  14. Tripp Research Cobra Mags. I have 8 that I run in my Kimber Stainless II. They work great.
  15. I've installed and shot the TruGlo TFO (tritium fiber optic) on a standard p226 9mm, and was really impressed. Very bright and easy to see. They are fixed, but shot to POA after installed.
  16. Midway has AA2230 on sale for 9.99 a lb., according to the flier I got for April.
  17. Check Cabelas for Rainiers and Berrys. Even with shipping, they were the cheapest. Their website had better prices than the 2007 Shooting catalog I got last month. I just ordered 1000 .45 185 HBRN for ~$80 delivered. The Rainiers were similarly priced. 180 .40's were the same price.
  18. I just got 1000 Berry's 185 HBRN for 71.96 plus 8.75 shipping. Their prices were all a couple dollars cheaper than their 2007 Shooting catalog. Rainiers were similarly priced.
  19. I thought I read a post a couple days ago about Circleville shooting this Sat, but I can't find it. Did I imagine that or is there a match this weekend.
  20. I bought a Alaska DPS 4006 to try minor .40 in production. It is all stainless steel, so it has a few more oz.'s than the plastic fantastics, and 11 rd. 4006 mags are $9.99 from CDNN. Loaded to 10 rds., they reload nicely. It has front and rear cocking serrations, checkered front strap, and I added an LPA adj. rear sight. Minor .40 is pretty soft too. I need to get the decocker fixed though, it is staying down in the safe position, and I would prefer to have a decocker only. I think the 3rd Gen. Smiths are under rated. We used to be issued DAO 4043's back in the 90's, and I didn't care for the DAO trigger, but the regular DA/SA has a very short reset. For production, I would look for a 5906 or 4006 with DA/SA trigger.
  21. Chuck, I'm in Ohio, but I've been to the SSC 5 times now and it has rained on me 3 of them, including last years bone chilling drizzle. The other 2 times were overcast, perfect for seeing the sights without glare. I got the dimensions and will try to make a box this week. Last years SSC was pretty laid back on equipment with the exception of checking make, model, and ser. # every stage. I saw Gary's shave job on his mag pads, and it does not look too hard with a belt sander. Even shaved, it would be better than the shorter base pads in my S&A mag well. Gary, By your last post, am I to understand that I don't have to shave the pads now, or that MOST guns will fit with the 47BEN pads?
  22. Thanks for the help, everyone. How close is equipment going to be scrutinized this year does anyone know? Will the box and scale be used for size and weight? I'm not griping, just want to have a good time without POing any staff. I'm sure I'll make weight (this is sounding like a wrestling match), but not sure on box size. As for weather, Lord, I'm sick of shooting in the rain in Ill. It's either gorgeous, or Noah's second coming. Either way, two nights at the Patio is worth the risk. I got the pork chops last year, but my buddy let me try his prime rib, and it had to be the best I ever tasted.
  23. I tried to find a thread I thought I read recently that said our PSSD classification is no longer the highest class on file, but our L10 class, if you have one. Does this sound familiar to anyone? If not, can anyone advise what the PSSD class should be. I just checked mine, and am still classed A due to my Ltd. class being A, and not my L10 class of B. Going to the SSC in April, and would be happy to shoot in B if I can.
  24. Jacketch, what base is that? It looks like the YHM extension I was looking at in Brownells. I got my V3 a couple weeks ago at Midway, for $139, on sale. Appears to be true 1x, nice field of view, overall very impressed for the price. I'm using an M&A riser currently, but I'm looking for a scout extention to get the eye relief I need.
