  1. Bullets back for me. Friends went to a tactical carbine class, and they call it a "beer can reload". I've tried it both ways, and I seem to have better control of the mag that way. I do see how the 20 rd. mag would be easier to load pistol-style, though.
  2. I voter "other". I just got a stock trigger group done by Bill Springfield, www.triggerwork.net. He works over the stock trigger, hammer, and disconnector into a great trigger, around 3#. Makes the lightning cut on the hammer like a JP. Blew my RRA NM 2 stage away. Buddy got the 4# for his work gun. Very reasonable prices, and 1 week turnaround. He will smooth out a RRA into a 2#, too.
  3. I'm having the exact same issue with a Pmag/Nordic combo. Crapped on me at Benning on the rifle stage with the grenade launcher. We each have to find gear that works for us, no alibis on the clock.
  4. I heard the 013 was supposed to be out a couple months ago, but haven't seen it for sale anywhere, and any talk here about it. Has anyone played with it yet, and what is the price on the street?
  5. I shot a Saiga at Ky. I came in 2nd behind Chris Patty, 90%. I'm not sure how much of an advantage the Saiga was as I have not seen a scoring by stage, just overall by division. I know there is no advantage in a 10 shot stage, and a disadvantage in the 11-14 shot stage, until I get my magwell installed that will allow a no-rock reload. 15-20 shots, I feel I have an advantage. Plus my Saiga has been dead on reliable, and cycles super fast. My brother had malf's with his 1100 shooting slugs. After the stage, we looked at the box, and he was shooting 1800fps. slugs! The next round in the mag was jumping past the retaining fingers and getting stuck against the easyloader. Back to standard shot, and the malf went away. Other than that, our stage was pretty malfunction free. I really like the time plus scoring, really sped the match along. It does make a .40 major a disadvantage, but most of us reload anyhow, so minor loads work great. I shoot open 9 major, and the comp likes hot loads, so I made 173pf with the pistol. I even shot Guat. surplus 5.56 that made 3050 fps. when everyone else was 2650-2800 on our squad. The only "why did they do that" I had was the stage with the axe. The pistol box had a diagonal 2x4 in it, preventing the pistol from going in flat. Not that fun, or safe, with a comped and scoped open gun. Anyone have any idea why they did that? I didn't want to get into it while trying to work out the stage, then forgot about it afterwords. Overall a 10++ match!
  6. A buddy bought a TAC 4 when he couldn't find a CM last year. The top of the receiver on the TAC is checkered or serrated, can't remember which, and is drilled and tapped for a receiver mount if you wanted to put one there. Pretty much cosmetic, significantly the same gun. I like to run mine pretty wet, and get your o-rings form Eric at truegrip.
  7. I got it straight from SV. Got the stainless steel one, and threaded for a button. Ran around $80 with shipping, so not a cheap solution, but the only one that would work on my grip. Almost the same price to get a new STI grip, unless you have a special stippling or such.
  8. I had the same problem, except it was with an SV grip. I had to order the SV mag catch that has an oversize button. It has a ridge of steel that rides in the trigger slot behind the trigger shoe, that prevents it from coming out the left side of the frame.
  9. I used my new CMMG 42rd. mag at Ky. 3gun match yesterday, and it ran like a champ. The body is steel, and the finish is rubbing off. It appears to be a low grade phospate. As the finish wears inside the tube, the follower works smoother, and reliability goes up. For $29, I definitely recommend them. You'll just want to keep an eye on rust. No big deal, I've had FAL and M1A mags, and treat them the same.
  10. Paul and I came down from Ohio, and really enjoyed the match. Ant Hill is a georgous range! Like shooting a match on a golf course. Much nicer than the gravel pits we are used to up here, and easier on the feet and knees. I liked the big round count field courses, and liked the flipper stage the best. I thought I had some pretty good times until I saw the scores. Chris Tilley must me hell on wheels! Wished I could have saw him shoot some stages. We shot with some great guys from Virginia, congradulations on winning SS Ed! And the Calabash seafood in the area was top notch! I'm already planning next year to shoot this, then use a week of my time share in Myrtle Beach (only an hour away).
  11. Rock River, Armalite, PK Firearms, Sherluk, Model 1 Sales, Del-Ton, all should have them.
  12. Is there a street address for Ant Hill club that I can plug into Mapquest? I checked all over, and can't find one. Appreciate it.
  13. I don't think there is a powerfactor for shotgun, just minimum gauge of 20
  14. I had a Tactical on an m4 clone, and liked it. It had some zero drift, just like my Serendipity on my open gun, just had to confirm it every so often. I put an aluminum Railway on my SBR 9mm, and like it just fine. The tacticool guys will want to hack on you for using a gamer sight, but I have found them to be more than robust enough for what we use them for. I don't think you would have enough room on a flat top upper to mount the Tactical with the b/u iron sight and a magnifier. Maybe if you used the Railway w/o the irons, you would. I am not aware of a proprietay Cmore magnifier, you would have to try to adapt an Eotech or Aimpoint.
  15. Looked pretty darn fast to me. I'm a hack with a revolver, but I am left handed. When I do my reload, I put my right thumb thru the cylinder window, and hold the cylinder with my right thumb and middle finger. The video is too fast and far away to see how you are holding the cylinder, but it obviously is working. 625 I assume? Looks great. Phil Griggs shoots in my area, and he is left handed, and is known to hold his own with a round gun. He does the thumb thru the window technique. Usually wraps a band aid around his right thumb to keep from burning it on the forcing cone.
  16. Been to the SSC 5 times, and always liked the Holiday. Right across the street from the Patio, home of the best pork chop and prime rib I've ever tasted. When did they tear it down?
  17. Thanks, I bought it. Going to make a light weight 5" 9mm Major, using a Clark threaded skinny barrel and the Ti comp.
  18. Looking for a cone style TI comp. Who make these? I have a Bedell bull style, and like it, but wanting to try a lighter set up with a regular barrel and cone comp.
  19. We hosted the Area 5 in 1994 or 1995. The range is entirely different now, more bays specifically for pistol, and better ventilation in the indoor range. If we can just get the drainage right...
  20. I picked up an aluminum Cmore Railway on either AR15.com, or our EE, for $175, brand new. It has the click switch, and is very tough. You can buy the scout mount minus the actual Cmore for a little over $100, and if you get one of these aluminum Cmore's, it would be a pretty hardy setup.
  21. I got my SV mag catch a couple days ago, and it is indeed very different. First, the button is .311", where the STI is .281" in diameter. The "ledge" that catches on the inside of the grip is located differently. On the STI, it is a small lip about .250" from the end of the button. On the SV, it is a large ridge of steel that actually rides in the trigger slot. After the trigger is installed, the mag catch would go in behind it and share the slot, just behind it. I shot some pictures of the differences. Oh, the best part, the stainless steel mag catch with the button drilled and tapped (which I did not ask for) cost a few cents shy of $70 with shipping!!! SV may be the "inovator" but I will stick with other brands when possible.
  22. I was telling someone off the board, it's like Colt and the AR. Make it different enough so they will have to buy your parts, but still be the industry standard for quality for an off the shelf gun.
  23. I called SV today, and it was confirmed that if the mag catch hole in the left side is .312" or larger, you need the SV mag catch; the STI part will not work. This appeared to be a suprise to several people that IM'd me. Thanks to everyone that helped me out on this. I wonder how many other parts are unique to SV, and not interchangeable. The seller told me the grip was off a gun from last year. It is marked Strayer Tripp International inside where the patent dates are, so STI was still making grips for SV then. I'll know for sure and certain when the SV mag catch gets here.
  24. Who has SV mag catches available? SSI are out of stock, as is SV directly. SV wants $43!!! Brazos has STI's in stock for $17. Why such a price difference?
  25. I bought a SV grip frame with factory stippling to replace a grip on my ltd gun. I stripped the old frame which was an STI, and started to assemble the SV. The mag release that worked fine in the STI, would go all the way through the holes in the SV frame, not stopping when the button is sticking out of the left side of the frame. Even when the lock was turned into the slot in the frame, the button will go all the way through the grip and come out the left side of the grip. I had a SV Scott grip a couple years ago that did the same thing. So, do I need a special SV mag release, or is my grip frame bad? I think the mag release I have is a STI part.
