  1. I think your reading to shooting ratio needs some reevaluation.
  2. Your position exits look a lot like mine did last season. Not slow, but not explosive either. I've prioritized squats, suicide sprints, burpees and stair runs in my workout and set up my little basement dry fire stages to really force a lot of 6-12 foot movements to focus on hard exits. I've also been working on staying low and preloading the leg I'm pushing off of so that I'm starting to move as I break the last shot in a position. The gains have been very noticeable in the last two months.
  3. I'd like to see some reviews/testing also. I get the idea behind the timing lock nuts everyone is going to but I wish they would offer one without it to make it easier to pin onto 14.5" barrels.
  4. @Elgin Yeah I got mine on sale also, it was a worthwhile experiment and I don't regret trying it out, I just wish it wouldn't have kicked the bucket in the middle of a major match. In hindsight I should've known better, in the month leading up to the match I kept having to turn the gas up to lock back. I ended up with the gas wide open and was still short stroking by the end of the match. @Joeg26er I attempted to get a picture but there's really nothing to see. Dropping a couple different bolts with fresh gas rings in it is like throwing a hot dog down a hallway. Barely hits the sides.
  5. Not quite. I have one and its a step up from a Harris but its no Atlas. The Atlas cant locks up tighter, legs lock at 45 degrees, more height adjustment range, it's sturdier and heavier (which I prefer).
  6. I have the same set up as Acer2428 but on a 4.5" barrel. No problems with putting my hand over it, I bet with a 14.5" barrel there's nothing to worry about.
  7. Thats the same one that Surmount Defense and Shooting Innovations is selling. Not a good way to waste your money. The exterior wear isn't the problem, having your gas rings ream out the bore is a big problem.
  8. Love mine. No loctite but everything has stayed put for the year and a half or so I've had it.
  9. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a WOA barrel, they have an excellent reputation.
  10. No issues with function, it just feels like a cheap trigger. I tested it against some other 3.5lb triggers myself and some buddies own. IIRC we had an Elftmann, CMC, Velocity, Timney, JP, a Hiperfire and the Rise that all pulled near 3.5lbs on a gauge but the Rise always felt like a 5lb trigger. It didn't have a crisp break, more overtravel, and a clunky reset. I felt one other Rise at a gun store and it felt exactly same. There's just better options in every way that don't cost that much more.
  11. I recently got one of the Brownells lightweight BCG's. I don't have many rounds on it yet but I'm very impressed for the $90 I paid for it. I think good triggers start at CMC, around $170, and go from there. I had one of those $100 Rise Armament triggers and its s#!t. Wait till PA has a sale on CMC's and grab one of the 2.5lb units for $130 or so.
  12. Gamechanger. Because better shooters than I use it exclusively after having bought every bag on the market.
  13. My favorite uncle is a recently retired Chicago firefighter. He's not much for stories but I'm aware you guys get into some crazy stuff, so thanks for your service.
  14. Found one: https://www.groundzeroprecision.com/products/utg-pro-4-15-super-slim-free-float-ar-15-barrel-nut-wrench
  15. Thats a UTG handguard, when you buy one they send a weird wrench with it. I don't think anything on an armorers wrench will interface properly.
  16. Not quite the same, but the footprint is so stocks, triggers etc. are cross compatible. The reason Remington is rarely considered these days is because they've ignored precision rifles so long that they are 15 years behind on everything. Twist rates, new chamberings, decent triggers, chassis options, you name it and Remington is the last company to adopt it, then they insist on pricing themselves higher than any of their competitors.
  17. Thats right, I forgot you were in Canada. Any competent smith could turn you a barrel with an intermediate or rifle gas system if you were willing to pay for it.
  18. You seem to have read my question as being confrontational. I was curious where you were going as this discussion has so far been about gas system lengths, not effective range or accuracy. FWIW I like my 14.5", it's plenty capable at 600 as you say, lighter and handier. But your 14.5 is intermediate gas so it's not on equal footing with most 14.5's. It also has the equivalent dwell time of a 16" rifle gas barrel, so it is a bit closer to the edge than a lot of people prefer.
  19. Tikka T3X Varmint in a KRG Bravo is hard to beat after you get the barrel threaded. Howa was coming out with a 223 Bravo last time I talked to them. The 223 RPR's are going dirt cheap right now and is the only one with a 1 in 7" twist which is ideal for the bullet weights you can utilize in a bolt gun. The HMR Pro is pretty great out of the box, great trigger, good accuracy reputation, servicable stock, smooth action, threaded barrel. Remington is stuck in 1986 so plan on getting a trigger that doesn't feel like breaking a newborn babies fibula and a faster twist barrel if you want to shoot 75+ grain bullets. Which you do, since you said 600+ yards. There is no clear winner here, but there is an obvious loser.
  20. No. You may feel it but you'll probably have a hard time noticing it in your stage times. The real question is why use a 16" mid when 16" intermediate and rifle barrels are available? Intermediate closes the gap on rifle so close you have a hard time telling the difference. 16" rifle gas is not for everyone but if you like tinkering and tuning it can be a viable route.
