    Lucky

That ass hickie on the drivers seat will never go away.
  2. Tim Thanks for the reply. And you are right, I am sure I will touch it just to see how hot it can get . Payne
  3. Just purchased a used JP-15. Shoots great and no malfunctions. After shooting several hundred rounds through the weapon I noticed fouling right in front of the receiver where the gas tube enters. The fouling is on the JP handguard, but about 1/2" of the gas tube is also visible at this location. Weapon seems to be working fine. I also have a DPMS with a Hogue forearm on it. The gas tube is completely encased by the forend at that location and I have never noticed any sort of fouling. Is what I am seeing normal? The weapon does have the adjustable gas block and I just put in a stainless steel low mass carrier. No complaints on the weapon at all. Have just never seen this before.
  4. Best way to get used to 20 degree weather is to spend a week in -20 degree weather. Anything above 10 degrees feels downright balmy .
  5. Just purchased a used JP-15. Owner did not have the tool kit that came with the weapon. Does anyone know the size of the allen wrench needed for the adjustment on the gas block? None of my normal ones work. Very nice rifle. Payne
  6. I do not shoot IDPA, for everything else. No question. Benny Hill, Triangle Shooting Sports (www.triangleshootingsports.com). 6" Fat Free .40 S&W. Makes Glock Perfection seem not so perfect .
  7. A drill I like to do that might help you with both loosing weight, and getting into prone positions faster. Put two cones 30 yrds. apart. You will be doing 30 yrd. sprints between the cones. Start your stop watch, run to far cone, drop and do one pushup. Get up, sprint back to first cone, drop and do two pushups. And so on, until you have gone all the way up to 10 pushups. Running to the other cone for each higher repetition of the pushup. By the time you are done you will have sprinted 300 yrds. in 30 yrd. increments, and done 55 pushups. Great fun . I would put in a puking icon but don't have one. Please be advised that this will give even a conditioned athlete a heart attack if you aren't careful.
  8. I am running a DPMS 20" flattop w/BC comp. and RRA two stage trigger. Hogue free float tube is the only other option on the rifle. Shoots great and has never malfunctioned. A friend borrowed it for his first 3-gun shoot and now wants to purchase it from me. I have found a replacement in a used (less than 1000 rounds) JP-15 with 20" barrel, BC comp., JP trigger, JP adjustable gas block, all in excellent shape. $1300.00 for the used JP-15. In your expert opinion. Should I give a new shooter a chance at a known rifle, then take the chance on trading up to a JP? I have no complaints on my DPMS, but I have got to say the JP really looks nice. I am also curious about the adjustable gas block, and if it will really assist in recoil control or not. Any thought appreciated. Payne
  9. Just a note from personal experiance. If you are involved in deadly force situation, your gun will be gone for quite some time. At least where I work, the state BCA takes it as evidence. Just something to keep in mind. Payne
  10. Lawman - I have never met you, but if I do, please let me buy you a beer . Very nice what you did. For the other shooter that was willing to give up his weapon, he has a beer waiting for him also. I was unable to attend the match. I was thinking how nice it would have been to have watched some of the match on ESPN. Hell, they have Professional Bowlers Association on the air for crying out loud! (no offense toward bowlers). Or at least have been able to have instant stat tracker like they use in Fantasy Football . I am glad all had a good time, wish I had been there. Payne

    Dance

Not to sound unmanly or anything. I was watching some coimpetition video and was struck by the similarities between how the shooters moved and how I remember my father looked while he was dancing. Yes that is right ---- dancing ---. My parents had eleven children. Family entertainment often consisted of going to ballrooms and dancing. I remember how my parents danced. My father is a very large man, but boy could he cut a rug. Smooth, agile, quick, confident, and always with a big smile on his face. The same attributes a good shooter should have (especially the smile part). I wish he were young enough to do some shooting, I bet he would have been a good one.
  12. I've got several ex-military M-14's for my Police Department. I would like to outfit one of them with a scope to see how it does. What would be the best scope mount to use? Any expert advice appreciated. Just to add - this gun will not be used for competition, just using it as a backup longgun for the department.
  13. Photo doesn't do it justice. Love the gun, just have to learn to shoot it to its potential.
  14. I had the same problem with an M2 Tactical. Had Benny Hill lighten the bolt, changed the recoil spring to a lighter one, and was good to go. If you still have the pistol grip stock on yours, that may also cause problems. The biggest problem I had with the Tactical was that I couldn't get my face down onto the stock hard enough to see the iron sights (rifle type). Switched to a M1S90 with regular stock and vent rib barrel and it has been perfect.
  15. My son was using my old 1100 at the RM3G and the Choate handle flew off into the woods. Lucky I had the stock one in the parts kit I always carried for the 1100. I am just going to order a couple stock ones. Maybe a little less mass will help them stay with the bolt while shooting.
  16. I did part one today. Had the timer running but didn't really care about keeping track. I was amazed at how quickly the times went down, and the "A"s were easier to get. Something about "Seeing what you need to see" came to mind. I am fairly new, so this was a great drill from many aspects. Also found out how pushing the envelope made it much easier to crash and burn Waiting for part two.
  17. Heavy Metal - He Man Rifle - .308 or larger caliber - 20 rounds max. in the weapon. Iron sights Shotgun - 12 ga. pump action - 9 rounds max. in the weapon (no box magazines) Handgun - .44 or larger, 8 rounds max. in the magazine Any brand of weapon may enter. This way the weapons you use for heavy metal in the other matches can also be used here. Why would you want to change a good thing? Seems like HM is just getting a good start in most of the matches I have seen. I personally would prefer to use a scope because my old eyes are having trouble seeing some of the longer targets . Other than that, I like it the way it is.
  18. 870 also sucks if you don't get the shell loaded into the magazine all the way. Shell comes out over the lifter and you are stuck. With the 590 the shell just pops out onto the ground. Neither weapon unlocks the bolt when the trigger is pulled. If you are pulling back on the pump action when the trigger is pulled (poor technique), you will have to push the pump action forward to unlock it. Unlike the Winchester 1300 and Benelli Nova.
  19. MCFooter Thanks for the help, but that modification is to allow "ghost loading". What I am looking for is themodification that allows you to load shells into the magazine even if the bolt is not all the way forward. If the Benelli is out of battery (even a little) the shell lifter is pushed down just enough to effectively block the entrance to the magazine. The shell will go part way in, then stick. I have only had this happen once. I would prefer to be able to keep loading the magazine, then clear the cause of the jam.
  20. Benelli M1S90 - What modification has to be done to the bolt to allow the loading of shells into the magazine even if the bolt is not closed all the way. I have heard of this modification but have never seen a picture of it. Sorry I put this in the wrong forum. Can be moved.
  21. I came down from Minnesota with my wife, son, and two dogs. Brought the fifth wheel camper. What a great time. The campground was great, views were beautiful, and wildlife was plentiful. The only downside to the whole week spent there was the 25 hr. drive it took to get there. I drove it straight through, next year I will stop for a night I think. The shoot was great. I shot like crap but had a good time. My son shot his second 3-gun match and did a great job. We both learned a lot from the rest of the squad. By the way, squad #2 was far and away the best squad out there . The competition didn't stop at the shooting, we also competed in setting steel and taping targets. My hat is off to the RO's and the staff at the Whittington Center. My wife stated she couldn't wait to come back next year, and I hadn't even had time to think about whether I would plan on making this shoot next year or not. Thanks to all of you in squad #2. Two newbie shooters were made to feel welcome and we both learned a lot. You all set a great example as to how shooters should act at a match. No whining, bitching, or sitting on your butts while others do all the work. Sorry we had to miss the burger and fajita party after the match.
