  1. Have a lifelong commitment to avoidance, deterance, and de-escalation. Don't let your male pride get you into trouble. I had my house broken into several years ago. The thief had parked his truck in the garage and then kicked in the front door to the house. Took every gun that my wife and I owned. I am a LEO and he also took my duty belt with duty weapon, badge, and bullet proof vest. After calming down from this situation my wife and I were discussing what had taken place. I asked her what she would have done had she come home and found a strange truck in her garage stall and suspected a burglary. She said she would have taken down the license plate and drove to the neighbors (we live out in the country), and dialed 911. She then said "any idiot would have known to do that, right?". Man, I felt like and idiot. Women can be so logical that it hurts. I know that if I had come home to find this taking place, the first thing I would have done was to run into the house to confront the thief. I would probably have been shot do death with my own gun. What an idiot. I have been an LEO for 26 yrs. I am 6-2, 230 and over the years have developed a reputation of being able to handle myself if things go wrong. This means nothing. No matter how big or how tough you think you are, there is always someone bigger and tougher. We need to keep a calm head and make the right decisions when evil comes to visit. What you did was the right thing. I have the feeling you are a lot tougher than you think. You don't make those kind of proper decisions under stress without having a warriors heart. Hard to shake the inner doubts about yourself. Take whatever training you need to make you feel more confident in yourself. But don't stop there. Learn a foreign language, learn to play a musical instrument, become learned in scripture, just learn to be a better man. The dividends will last a lifetime. You may be surprised to find that you would have done the exact same thing that you did in this situation.
  2. I have the M2 Tactical. I had to put the "regular" recoil spring in, and I had Benny Hill lighten the bolt. Huge difference. Would not shoot the "Tactical" slugs before, shoots them great now. Funny thing, I shot the regular power Federal 1oz. slugs (I think 1600 fps) prior to changing the recoil spring. They cause jams now, almost like the bolt cycles too fast maybe? The Tactical ones fire as fast as you can pull the trigger. I also still have the pistol grip stock. I have heard this will also cause a lot of malfunction problems - and they are also the work of the devil
  3. I read the same thread you are talking about. If KurtM says it is a good idea, my guess is that it is a good idea. I had a couple of the same type malfunctions you were talking about. Cleaned the gun, put powdered graphite down the mag. tube, and everything seems fine now. I also had the red aluminum follower that I changed back to the original Benelli orange plastic. Seems to like the plastic one better. The only problem that I have is when I use the Winchester AA's, I get that same malfunction you are talking about. Same power shells as the cheap Walmart Federal ammo., but they just won't function in this gun for some reason. The cheap Walmart Federals work great. Go figure.
  4. I load weak hand with carrier down. I have never had the pleasure of "Benelli Thumb", but the first time my son tried loading the same way he got it big time.
  5. Thanks for the information. I saw the photo's of your hunt on another web site. Looked like fun. Will be trying to find a room in the area. Seems Columbia is filling rooms fast due to some sort of roping or rodeo competition. Looking forward to the shoot. Brian Payne
  6. Slide weight: This I couldn't tell you. Benny has told me but I forgot. I shot this last night in an indoor league. I hadn't had time to do much shooting of this gun until now. I had trouble with the recoil. I would shoot and be right back on target and the gun felt like it hadn't even cycled. I had to stop and take a look at the gun to make sure it had returned to battery. I honestly thought the gun had fired but that the slide hadn't moved. I was shooting factory American Eagle 165 grn. Very smooth and flat shooting. Less recoil than my Glock 34 shooting factory 9mm ammo.
  7. Benny Hill - Triangle Shooting Sports. Guns that work, short wait time, great price. Also a hell of a nice guy that takes the time to answer questions on the phone. Check out the picture of my 6" Fat Free in the Gallery section.
  8. Last year I put together an old 1100. Worked well and is now used by my son. This year I bought a M2 Tactical and had Benny Hill mill the bolt carrier, and I added a 9 round extention. Handles quicker, is lighter, and for some reason it loads easier. By that I mean that I can shove shells in the Benelli quicker for some reason.
  9. I thought the CQT had a FOV of around 110' at 100 yards. I don't know how they do it with that small of an objective, but it appears to be very good when I look through mine. I can easily see the last 1/3 of the handguard when I look through it. It is a true 1x but only goes up to 3x which may cause problems at long range. I would like to be able to see the lit reticle in sunlight.
  10. Coming down from Minnesota to shoot. Anyone know what to expect in the rifle stages? Just wondering about farthest targets and what type they will be. Can't do a lot of shooting up here just yet, but can make it to the rifle range for zeroing.
  11. I shot a Glock 34 for several years. Was not real big into competition but did a lot of Law Enforcement shooting. Started USPSA and 3-gun. In short order I decided that I wanted/needed a handgun better suited to my needs. Never could get used to the unnatural (for me) grip angle. I really did like the longer slide and barrel of the Practical/Tactical Glocks (34, 35). After much research and trial and error, I decided to have Benny Hill build me a 6" Super Fat Free .40 S&W. You can see the picture of it in the Gallery. I chose this gun because of the way the STI style guns fit my hand. But I really liked the extended sight radius and pointability of the 6" slide and barrel. Kind of like the Glock 34 over the Glock 17. Will it make you a better shooter? Never know until you try I guess.
  12. Thanks for the help guys. Great info.
  13. I couldn't find what I was looking for in the Search. For the Leupold CQT users. How are you zeroing your sight. Example - dead on at 50 yards and holding high at 300 yards? Basically what I am looking for is a rough zero to get started and I can figure the rest out by playing at the range. Also when you have targets at long range (300 yards) are you holding high, dead on, or six o'clock on the target. Using iron sights I always liked to have the target sitting on top of the sights at 300 yards and then work from there. Just curious what has worked the best for you with this sight. Thanks in advance.
  14. I use the Nikon Monarch red dot. Four different dot sizes and eleven different brightness settings. Have been using it for two years on my S&W 500 Mag. Nice to have a lot of brightness settings due to the fact you need a VERY low setting in low light (dawn or dusk). If the dot is too bright you will not be able to see the target past the dot. I always leave the dot on the smallest setting (1 moa I think it is). I can't say how long the batteries last. I only turn it one when I see or hear a deer coming. Haven't had to replace a battery yet.
  15. Just keep checking the mnuspsa forum. They have most of the updates there. This one was unusual. Lots of shoots coming up. I am new to this sort of thing myself. Know how hard it can be to get started. If you don't mind, when I hear or see of any upcoming shoots, I will PM you with the information. Hang in there, it will happen, and you will have a good time. Just a quick note, there is a shooting league starting at the Sherburne County Sheriffs Department indoor range (Elk River). I will try to find the information and get it to you.
  16. Boy, this is bad. Since they canceled the shoot last month, they had the handgun shoot today instead of the Two gun shoot listed on the schedule. On a good note, weather was nice, people were great, courses of fire were a blast. Make sure and make the next one. Feel free to ask questions on the www.mnuspsa.org forum. Lots of help there.
  17. I was raised in a strict Catholic family with 10 brothers and sisters. When we went to church we took up a whole pew. Everyone commented on how well behaved the children were. All my father would have to do was give us "the look" if we were behaving badly. I can never remember my father ever touching one of the kids. Didn't need too. Just knowing it was going to happen was enough. I watched a very large late teen boy misbehaving in a church pew directly in front of my father, this during the sermon. His mother wispered for him to knock it off (no father present). He told his mother in a very loud voice "F**K YOU". My father reached forward and slapped the kid in the mouth. The mother said "thank you" and so did the Father giving the sermon. This was over 40 years ago. I don't think my father's actions would be tolerated now. I thought it was great fun at the time. I was proud of him .
  18. I am a cop in a small rural community. Went to town for breakfast today. A gentleman walked up to me with a five year old girl in tow. He shook my hand and introduced me to his daughter. I remembered him from a situation from many years previous. Suicidal male trying to do the old suicide by cop routine. I was able to talk him down with no injury to anyone involved. He said he had gone through treatment and has not drank or used drugs in over six years. Now raising a beautiful daughter and things going well. Just wanted to thank me for saving his life. Kind of makes the job a little easier to take when something like this takes place. Amazing how "thanks" can make your day a little better.
  19. Bruce, Larry is right. I just ordered the one for the 6" STI Eagle. Eight week wait though.
  20. Blade-tech built me one for a Les Baer Monolith. That had a full dust cover but don't know if it would be the same as the STI/SV type. Can't believe they don't have something for whatever you shoot. I have the regular belt holster and just got a DOH for my Benny Hill Fat Free 6". I REALLY like the DOH. Makes for a much more comfortable draw. Seems as fast as a race type holster.
  21. Bruce: I have a Blade-Tech DOH holster. It is for the STI 6". Works great. As for the "looks" comment - Thank you. I like it also. Benny says he builds each one a little different. I have liked every one that I have been able to see a picture of. I was sold on the concept from the start. My first duty pistol was a 6" .357 revolver. Loved that gun, and have always wanted to go back to the 6" barrels. TC38s: As for price I would have to refer you to www.triangleshootingsports.com. Contact info. is on that web site. Give Benny a call for a price. Great guy to talk to and obviously knows his stuff. I think it is a bargain for what you get.
  22. Bushing. The weather is too nice here in Minnesota. Can't make it out to the range due to the spring thaw and mud. Can't wait.
  23. I like the 9 round extention. Just load eight until after the beep. I load four rounds at a time weak hand. Carry the shotgun shells in Progressive Machine and Tool carriers hanging on the belt. Have also used the ones you can purchase from Brownell's and they work well also. Using the "Search" function will get you several hours of reading on these topics. In my opinion reading posts on this forum is the next best thing to having an instructor beside you.
