    Frog Lube

I see Frog Lube as a "snake oil". Why spend so much on a lube that works marginally at best? Good ol' motor oil works like a dream, and is a tiny fraction of what you'll spend on FL. Plus you don't have all the time and effort wrapped up in the application process. Just tear down the gun and clean as usual, lube with motor oil (synthetic if you want to get fancy) as you put it back together. A quart will likely last you most of your life.
  5. Though not one on your list, I really like the 18" rifle-length gas SS Nordic Components barrel in my 3g build. It's very accurate and reliable. The gas port is undersized for use with the LMOS system and fixed gas block. I was running a DD full-weight carrier and A2 buffer and spring, and just switched to a JP LMOS carrier and buffer system. I'm interested to see how it runs and whether the undersized gas port works as advertized.
  6. I use the UA Speed Freek boots for matches in inclement weather or on muddy stages. The tread is pretty aggressive, though not real deep. In swampy mud, maybe use football cleats?
  7. I just bought a 2014 Toyota Tundra with the 5.7 iForce V8, 4x4, CrewMax SR5 and am getting 20mpg highway. We live in a rural area and don't do any "city" driving. Truck has 3500mi. My brother-in-law and I frequently travel to 3-gun matches and the back seats of the crew cab fold up and allow us to pack in all the guns, coolers and range bags easily. I'm 6'2", 265lbs and like the bigger vehicles myself. I'll be adding a hard tonneau cover soon so guns/gear can be locked in the bed and have the ability to carpool with more shooters.
  8. S&W also supports shooting competitions and puts a lot of guns on prize tables. My vote would be STI Trojan.
  9. Depending on what we're qualifying as "practice", I chose once a week, and it's almost always at a match. I typically shoot 3-4 matches/month, and don't have time for much live-fire practice. I do alot of dry-firing in my gun room several times a week, if that counts.
  10. I was playing around with the WWB Super Sport 1oz #9 on some steel pipes a few weeks ago. I bought 100rds to try in my Vinci. Man were those some soft shooting loads, but I had a ftf/short stroke once every box at least. Some minor spring tuning would probably allow it to cycle 1oz loads more reliably.
  11. I really like mine, but unlike Tech's above I've had some stovepipes with mine using 1oz loads. I'll typically shoot 1 1/8oz 1250fps Win AAs for match time and practice with Win universal 1 1/8oz 1200fps bulk shells. I've had good luck with 1 1/8oz 1145fps AAs, but those can be hard to find locally. I quit using Federal shells because of the frequency of bad and bulged crimps I was encountering. I run the Nordic 12rd tube on my Vinci.
  12. I will say here that I was the shooter in question. I was engaging paper targets and grazed a popper from about a 110 degree angle, the bullet did not hit the popper square and passed through the paper and into the berm. 10 shooters ahead of me made the same shot, I just got "lucky". I started to ULSC before anyone hollered stop, I'm not a new shooter by any means, and knew that hitting a pistol steel with rifle was a match killer. I was starting to pack my equipment up for the day when the MD came over to ask how it happened. After others explained, he gave me a stage DQ in order to let me shoot the remaining 3 stages, which I graciously accepted. I knew of the risk and took the chance, and drew the short straw. I agree that striking pistol steel with rifle is unsafe, and I have shot at major matches where I saw shooters engage pistol plates with rifle, and they were given stage DQs. The level of gaming on that stage I DQed on dropped drastically after I showed what could happen, so I hope others were able to learn from my misfortune.
  13. I've bought couple guns off Armslist, including an STI Eagle. I was nervous every time but got lucky I guess. I just sent off payment for another STI for an Armslist ad, hoping for the best. Hopefully the seller in your case does the right thing.
  14. Leave them covered up on your buggy until you're on deck.
  15. I have only shot my 55gr reloads through mine. 55gr FMJ Hornady pills @ 2.25 OAL, CCI No. 41 primer, 27.2gr CFE223.
  16. I shot a classifier as my first IDPA match, and maybe my 3rd shooting match. Shot decent for a noob I guess and classified as Marksman in ESP. I was shooting an FNX-9 if I remember right. This was almost 3 years ago. I haven't been shooting much IDPA, maybe a couple a year, as I devote most of my weekends to 3gun. I shot my second classifier ever a couple months ago in ESP with an STI Eagle 5.0 9x19. I shot it like I would a 3gun pistol stage, fast and loose. Racked up a lot of points down and classified with a score towards the top end of Sharpshooter.
  17. I bought the replacement spring kit from AP and doubled up the springs on mine.Shell stay in place now even when going prone and getting back up. Pat That's a good idea, Pat. I hadn't thought of doing that. I use the Taccom 8up Qualoads and have one AP L4/8 that I don't really like because of the lack of spring tension. I might have to try this trick, thanks!
  18. Starline is best, once-fired everything else loads just fine. I have noticed that Win primer pockets are tight, and I have started sorting the once-fired brass I've been buying ever since I ran upon a few hundred WCC NATO cases. That'll bring your loading session to a screeching halt.
  19. I use to shoot a G17L in 3-Gun, but switched to an STI 5.0 Eagle in 9mm at the beginning of the year Carry gun is a G19 Gen3 with a 17L trigger (4.5lb connector).
  20. I've got all those time constraints plus a job in which I'm on call 24/7. My wife and 7mo old daughter go to bed around 8-8:30p, I typically will reload for a couple hours after that.
  21. I've only had a handful of re-shoots and do better every time. Just look back at your first run and realize where you can improve upon.
  22. I had posted earlier in the thread that my BIL was having the same problems with his. Since he has gotten more trigger time in, it hasn't happened again lately. I'm thinking now that it's probably bump-firing from riding the reset.
  23. Just got a steal on a barely used one. Gonna pimp it out as a loaner for the local matches. Thanks all who posted port jobs, mine will go under the knife this weekend. I've got a plethora of mag tubes laying around, just need a nut from MOA.
  24. I like running the 12rd tube because most outlaw matches will allow you to load after the buzzer, so start with the 8rd division capacity with 1 on the lifter; rack the bolt and drop a quad after the beep.
