  1. I was in your same boat and ordered a complete JP Rifle here are my thoughts after shooting it for two years. Ditch the thermal dissapator as many have said. I'd lose the carbine stock and go with a Magpul PRS or the luth ar which is what I'm switching to I like having the ability to adjust comb height and a carbine stock doesn't give me that with the precision that those two stocks do. I like the silent capture spring it is sweet, smooth and quiet and beats the heck out of dealing with the buffer and spring The JP trigger is great but I noticed an immediate increase in accuracy with the Hiperfire 24c I like the original JP handguard but I also bought a carbon arms tube for the JP barrel nut so I can switch between. The carbon arms tube has no slots and is much stronger. I had Mark from carbon arms show the difference in bending between his tube and the AP slotted tubes. It was night in day in how much the slotted tubes bend. He is not a fan of slotted carbon, or carbon buffer tubes due to some of the dangers of carbon flakes or dust they can create (a topic for another day). That way i can switch between the heavier Jp tube and the lighter carbon tube. Your shooting style will change. I used to think light was the best, then I needed heavy to steady me and now I'm looking for a little lighter but not too light. I have two handguards to suit me as needed. I like the badger tactical latch that JP uses I use a magpul BAD lever but the damn thing loosens up all the time I may switch to a one piece soon. I like the custom JP logo hogue grips. i don't find the magpul grips that comfortable at all. I'm not a fan of hard plastic grips. I run the low mass BCG and adjusable aluminum gas block and love them. I would get the new ultra light now. Ditch iron sights they are useless and no one actually uses them they are opium for the masses. If you're going to shoot tactical shoot the burris 1x AR I just watched James Cassanova destroy with this optic at the SMM3G and there is nothing else close to it. Get the Strelok Iphone app and get to shooting.
  2. I just got a monotube myself and spoke to RCI about this issue. There are little holes in the monotube and you have to thread them for a sling swivel. The QD system then bolts on to the sling swivel. Not the most elegant solution but I guess it works. I realy like the monotube though.
  3. As stated it is common to add weight to a rifle to reduce recoil and common on a shotgun to change the swing or to reduce recoil. I know that inertia systems are sensitive to weight changes but the M2's used in 3 gun have a lot of mods in which i hear counteracts that. I know a lot of people point to a video of Jesse Tichauer (sp?) used an xrail which bracing on a tree to demonstrate that the benelli's are not a sensitive as some belive to weight and little movement. If you want to get creative the nordic barrel clamp has rail attachments on each side you could put on two SJC glock weights on there. Adding weight to the end of a barrel makes a lot more differnce than the buttstock, a little goes a long way. The only thing that changes your shotgun classifcation is porting, magazine fed and optics. I feel your pain i hate shotgun recoil due to neck injuries. I loved my SLP but it beat my neck up and I just switched to an 8 lb versa max and I'm not looking back. I can't even imagine what an inertia gun would do to me.
  4. Hi viz makes a lot of sight replacements including a triangle. I'll be honest though a lot of shotgun accuracy issues come from the way you mount the gun and how it fits you. With my versa max I use the mid bead to tell if I'm mounting it correctly (not to aim with, just practicing mounting). when I do it right the mid bead is centered and is below the 50 percent mark of the front sight. Some people refer to this as the figure 8. If I mount incorrectly i can see the mid bead is off to the right and the gun is going to shoot to the right. You can adjust this with the cast off plates that come with the versa max (or you can just place your head and mount correctly). At 100 yards you are going to see mounting error a lot more, you may even see your slugs go high and right which is common. A lot of people blame this on the barrel and while that is true sometimes I think the fit and mounting issue has a lot more to do with it. Give it a try with your rear sight. Mount the gun a few times in the garage and and then do it with your eyes closed. Open them and see where the rear sight mark is in relation to the front sight. If its off it means you are probably fighting the shotgun to align it correctly when you are trying to aim it. A natural point of aim is a lot easier to work with than fighting your muscles which is the same in precision rifle shooting.
  5. The comp comes with several usefull chokes already. The only choke really missing is the light modified which is what a lot of people use as their main choke in 3 gun. For some reason (probably to save money) Remington gives you improved cylinder then skips to modified, improved modified and full. Cheaper than dirt right now has the best prices on factory remington extended chokes and tru lock chokes. I just bought a cylinder and light modified black extended tru lock chokes for $28 a piece. The remington Light Modified is like 15 bucks right now. Personally I only use three chokes in 3 gun. Cylinder for clays and easy falling targets and steel. I will go to a light modified if there is a texas star or plate rack that is more than 15 yards away ( you could get away with cylinder and#6 shot till about 20 yards but I don't like to test it ive seen too many cylinder bores not take down texas stars). I will use a full for 25 yard steel or a spinner. If you only have the money for one choke get the light modified. You can treat the improved cylinder you already have as a cylinder substitute and you already have the tighter chokes. Some people also like the diffuser chokes for clays but I have not run one. I wouldn't worry about the brands but some people will disagree I think remington/carlson/briley/tru lock are interchangeable for what we do.
  6. I just made the switch to the hiperfire 24c and I'm not going back to anything else. The flat face with trigger shoe and easily adjustable pull weights is awesome. I have used JP's, SSA-E's and 3g's and Rock River Arms 2 stage a different points. They have been giving them away like candy so pick one up off a prize table next time you see one or pick one up from someone selling one from a prize table, you won't regret it. JF
  7. Just a thought but my dpms 3g1 had failure to fire issues out of the box because of lube/grease slowing the firing pin down enough to cause a problem. Might want to wipe everything down and make sure your firing pin channel is clean with a good lubricant and is having a clear path. Glocks can have the same issue with lube in the firing pin channel.
  8. Just so you know DPMS is offering their gen ii extractors for purchase as a drop in unit. I put one in my dpms bolt with JP lightweight carrier and scs setup and it is doing the job so far I don't quite have 350 rounds through my platform yet so ymmv. Just a thought
  9. I tried both at the Vegas 3 gun nation and I think the flat trigger would be better once you got over the difference in feel. Seems like the flat shoe really would help with the long range. Bar none best trigger I've ever felt compared to my jp, ssa-e and rock river. Buy it you'll be happy with either one.
  10. I personally think that the 1-6 is the perfect price to performance ratio. A bushnell or vortex 1-6 are awesome. The 1-8s are nice but pricey. In my experience most people running the offset irons are just not good with them and seem to miss as much as they hit. If you go that route practice. I'd rather have one optic I will know everything about than trying to learn two. The best thing I ever did for my long range game was take an eight hour class from a seal sniper buddy of mine and buy the istrelok iphone app. I recently sighted in a bushnell 3.5-21 scope and I was surprised at how much the extra magnification didn't seem to make that much difference to my shooting.
  11. Seriously what is the point of any thread on Brian Enos when Jesse Tischauser replies to every thread with his bitch slap of knowledge. I watched that guy destroy in Vegas. Just rename this forum to "do what Jesse says". No other pro takes the time to throw his knowledge down like this guy. I've shot with a few guys here and I can say that Jesse, Alaska popo and trapr know what they are talking about just do what they say.
  12. I just won a set of the ESS crossbows and they are legit very comfortable under ear muffs. As for oakleys their ballistic set is very nice and covers a lot of your face. My SEAL buddy toured their facility and watched them test them by shooting everything you can imagine at them and said they held up to everything. He used them on deployment and they held up to everything. I use them in an LE environment and they haven't let me down yet. If your glasses cost less than your mags ditch them.
  13. Good point sir well taken, if that's the case seriously check out the new hiperfire 3 gun triggers they are bad ass. I rarely pick something up and am ready to lay 200 bucks down without a thought. I tried one out in Vegas and they are sweet. I run JP triggers right now and have run geiselle and RRA. My next trigger no doubt is a hiperfire. Not to mention how easy it is to change trigger weight with them. About once a year I shoot NRA matches that require a 3.5 trigger and I personally find changing the spring in my JP a pain. The hiperfire looks so much easier with their weird dual spring setup.

  15. I'm looking at prices and the CMC does not seem to be a value mid-range trigger. I would suggest a Rock River Arms NM two stage trigger. It is below $100 and is a nice trigger. If you want to go super cheap throw in a JP yellow spring kit in your GI trigger set and see if you like it. They are about 10 bucks and you may like the results. I also see that the Jard trigger seems to be a decent price but I have no experience with them. Browse the classifieds/gun whore section I just went to the 3 gun nation regionals in vegas and they gave away a ton of the hiperfire triggers you can probably find a few for sale at a decent price.
  16. At the 3 gun nation vegas a few weeks ago a shooter in my squad dq'd on the last stage by not safeing(sp) his shotgun. He shoved his mossberg so hard into the barrel he hit the safety. One is none two is one, burn the rounds and safe it if you can. Make up time by hitting your target not at the burn barrel. There is nothing worse than traveling all that way and leaving with your head down low. At the texas multigun last year so many people dq'd by not safeing there weapons by the end of it we were all stripping mags and clearing chambers just to be safe.
  17. Yeah Nike Landsharks right here. Cheap and i don't feel bad beating them into the ground. 250 dollar shoes are sweet but I don't think I could stand the thought of them touching the ground. Sign me up for the 35 dollar Big 5 landshark special!
  18. My buddy runs a burris 1.5-6 and does well with it. I personally think it sucks and couldn't stand running a 1.25 or 1.5 reticle for close up stages. There is a big difference between a 1x (even if it's slightly non 1x) and a 1.25 or 1.5x in my book. I find it difficult to run and engage three staggered targets with magnification. Not impossible but you would have to train to do it. In my experience it goes like this burris mtac/xtr, bushnell 1-6.5/vortex razor hd gen II, leupold 3 gun edition, Swarovski 1-6. This is basically what everyone runs, you will see some trijicons and such mixed in but the ones I listed are pretty much what everyone runs. Anyway try out a 1.25 or 1.5 reticle before you buy make sure it's something you like.
  19. No question it could benefit from an adjustable gas block. I think with the gas toned down it would run much better not to mention it had the crappy A2 stock with the hard plastic butt pad on it. Like I said I would take the Hunter model thread the barrel for a real compensator, throw on an adjustable gas block put a PRS or Sopmod stock on it and I think it would be killer. Again I think it is a great design I just wouldn't ditch my gen 1 for it at this point.
  20. The gas block will have nothing to do with accuracy you can fire the rifle with the gas shut off and run the rifle manually with no effect on accuracy. Your rifle has a 1 in 8 twist so it should shoot all those rounds no problem. I honestly would try to remove user error by using some type of lead sled or similar benchrest shooting device. Once you've done this it's time to send back the rifle to colt and have them look over the barrel and comp and make sure there is not a problem. I would also look at what type of target you are shooting at. I have a reticle with a 2 moa center circle, when I shoot at a 1 moa orange dot my reticle covers it and I can't really tell where I'm aiming at each time and my accuracy really suffers. I now shoot at a minimum 2 moa circle that way my reticle fills it up and I know if i see any orange that I need to center the reticle better. I literaly go from about 1-2 moa to 1/2 moa with just a target change. Anyway best of luck. Since this is your first post be warned Enos has three types of posters, those who know what they're talking about, those who don't know what they're talking about and those who think 700 posts of not knowing what they're talking about means they know what they're talking about. 1 in 3 ain't bad I guess.
  21. I just shot the 24 bull at the 3 gun regionals last weekend. I just recently purchased a 3g1 308 in December and was bummed when this new version came out thinking I was missing out on the new hotness. After shooting the gii I can say that you are not missing much. I feel the recoil was the Exact same with the only difference being the bolt return was slightly smoother due to the lower reciprocating mass. The gun is thinner and more ar in feel but the much hyped recoil reduction is slight to me. I have all new JP internals coming for my 3g1 so I will have a comparison of that next weekend. I will caveat this by saying the demo setup was awful. The sand bag and bench they were using were subpar so I didn't feel like I could really get behind the rifle that well. Even so I don't feel it would of changed my opinion much. Bottom line if you are happy with your gen 1 keep it, if you're in the market for a new 308 wait for a few more models to come out. I think a 3G gii would be killer or a hunter with a threaded barrel.
  22. You'll be fine with that setup though it isn't "ideal". I just ran my stag ar15 a glock and an 870 for the first year until I started learning what I liked and what others were using. You may find in the future there are more effective comps out there than the battle comp and a pinned and welded barrel makes switching it out a pain. I didn't see you mention your trigger so you may see some others from jp or geisselle that you like out there. You may find in the future your buying a rifle from JP enterprises or a stag 3G, a modified striker fire pistol or sti 2011 and a modified benelli m2, slp or versamax. Save up for those items and do it right the first time. Cry once.
  23. I shot today, we actually finished ahead of schedule and shot an extra stage. Courses are fast and fun, the half day format is great and I'm up almost a g from the craps tables. Great vegas match so far. Anyone have a link to the practiscore yet?
  24. I would run hornady steel match 155's for the hoser stages and hornady 178 bthp for the long range stages. You probably don't need the 178's for the ranges we shoot in 3 gun but hey shoot the best when you're gunning for a 500 yard target.
  25. For what it's worth if you're shooting in a two man team (shooter, spotter) you should be able to communicate to your spotter where your shot broke ie 1 o'clock 2 o'clock etc. that way the spotter can make easier adjustments for you for wind and elevation knowing which way you pulled the shot. This is good practice to make sure you follow through and are watching exactly where your shot broke before and after. Once again this is know as "follow through". JF
