  1. I don't shoot as much as I used to, work and home keeps me busy. I have shot both SC and 9M. Where I live, and having been in the sport as long as I have, I am fortunate to have good friends that are world class shooters, meaning that they both have won world titles. At their level, they have the skills down, but at their level they still contend with the mind. They have tuned their minds better than most to not thinking of the shooting, but it is still there. What I am getting at with my rambling is that if you have any doubt in the back of your mind, then you are beating yourself already. I can say that if you hand Chris or Todd a stock gun, that they will still beat the average shooter with it. Build the gun that makes your mind comfortable, practice and you will beat the 1% buy having less doubt in the back of your mind. Good luck, spend a little extra for the brass, but you will have a clear mind and shoot better.
  2. Sometimes it pays to contact these dealers that used to sell parts for the old guns, there may be some parts laying around that they would love to get rid of.
  3. I have used EO's for years, even back when Bushnell put their name on them. I still have one with the Bushnell name on it and it is as good today as it was when I got it. Battery life is short on them. All of my EO's have a 1 moa dot only. The 1 moa reticle was originally designed for a special military unit and when I got my hands on a couple I was sold. I remember a stage back when my old buddy, Kyle Lamb, hosted the North American Tactical Championship in Oxford, NC. The stage had multiple flash targets at 310 yards, I turned my intensity down on my sight and hit with ease. No magnifier back then. Thanks for a great match Brother, wish you still done it. Professional gunmen from across the country showed up for that match.
  4. I have done thousands of grip mods over the years. A grip will last a long time. The biggest problem that I have noticed was that when a grip was installed improperly. 9x25 were tough on grips also. Tommy Roupe
  5. Good luck with the builder. I used to use some of their parts, but I will not buy another item from them.
  6. Trace , it is true that you get a lot of gas from the charge handle, but the port is in your face. You get so much back pressure from the can, it would be very tough on a lefty. The adjustable gas blocks would help, but if this is a work gun, I would consider a Adams Arms piston kit. I put the kit on my rifle and not only did it clean up the internals and it runs cooler, but the reliability increased. I am not a big piston fan, but on a suppressed rifle, it is a great way to go. My suppressed 9mm blew gas as well, but to a lesser degree.
  7. BrianATL, that is a great looking pistol, and I really do like that grip. Tommy Roupe
  8. Clark Custom Guns does all of mine. They even done my Aluminum frame and blended the magwell. They do a machine checkering that is very precise. Speak with Renee and tell her Tommy Roupe told you to call. I do a lot of their 22-45 grips as well as STI grips for Clark Custom. They have been around for a long time with a great reputation in the industry. The Clark family has worked very hard building that reputation and they are just great folks at Clark Custom. Great pricing and good turn around time. You won't be disappointed.
  9. We have covered some miles shooting and been lucky to meet some of the great people over the years. This sport has given a lot of great memories to me. Good to see you posting Build4u. Glk21C mentioned Jim, is that the same Jim that worked with George and then went out on his own. PM me with his info if it is. Jim has great talent.
  10. I agree with David. EGW, all the way. George made comps for other smiths as well, not just EGW. He also had EDM comps and then he offered regular machined comps. George made some very effective comps.
  11. Any one have any feedback on the Alpen scope line. I do understand that they are not expensive scope, but the XP 1x6 with a reticle like the JM reticle that is in the Vortex is tough to beat. Thanks, Tommy
  12. Notice jid2 post on the Alpen XP 1x6, looks very interesting. There is a new Primary Arms 1x6 that will be at the Shot Show.
  13. I feel for you guys, I am little at 6'4" and 280 and I have trouble.
  14. Looks very interesting. Thanks for the post. Would love to hear how it holds up. I like the reticle enough to try one, just don't have any experience with Alpen's longevity. How does the scope track, any other shooters with the Alpen products, please chime in. Another thing that I like over my Vortex is the 1/4 min adjustments and not 1/2 moa. I assume that it is a second focal plane scope.
  15. How is the dot in bright lite ? I do love my reticle in my Vortex. Is the dot small, or just how close is the reticle to the Vortex, I could not make out the reticle in the pic. Thanks for posting the pics.

    RTS 2

No one should have to spend that kind of money, send them back for repairs multiple times, and not have the confidence through a stage that it will work. The shooting is a mental game, the less distractions the better. 2015 Shot Show is around the corner folks. Better options are coming.
  17. Buy a Caspian, Gary and the gang are the best in the industry to deal with, they support the shooting world, and they stand behind their products. You also would be surprised who's frames are actually Caspians at heart.
  18. I remember my 1st shot with a 9x25. Wow, it was loud and it drove the gun down. The 9x25 would be fun at the velocities it can get and a 6" barrel would push the velocities even higher. Just remember, the 1911 was designed around a low pressure round and look how far it has come. What a great designed pistol.
  19. Joe Bob Outfitters has a good selection of cheap comps.
  20. Just remember that you can lift more with a long stick then a short stick (leverage) The same applies with a short barrel over a long barrel. There will be more leverage with the longer barrel over the short barrel, and hopefully a flatter shooting gun. That leverage that I am speaking of is what killed the 9x25, it would eat the top lugs away with so much down force on the barrel. I ordered one of the comps as well.
  21. I did not on the 40, but did on the 9mm.
  22. My dealer had one in stock the last time I spoke with him. 910-692-7936 ext 2. Ask for Eddie, and tell him Tommy Roupe told you to call. These pistols are very hard to come by, there is more hand work in the Pro Match.
  23. I am thinking of posting my Pro Match in the classifieds but just don't know if I want to let it go. It has shot one of the smallest groups I ever shot with a 40. The Para mags work fine in my gun and they hold 20 rounds.
  24. I got tired of waiting for DPMS to bring out the 6.5, so I picked up a Anderson upper and lower with all JP parts and will build my own. Granted, when I get it finished, it will be heavier and more expensive. If it is like everything else I build, I won't get it sighted in before it will be up for sale and I will end up with a DPMS after all.
  25. I just picked up 3 of them and I am very pleased.
