  1. Jake, Have you tried Indiana Gun club? Great place and they now have many handguns. Tom
  2. NSSF Rimfire Challenge Rowan Co. Wildlife Assoc. Sunday 1/26/14 RCWA is hosting it's first NSSF Rimfire Challenge this weekend. The round count is 200 with 4 rifle and pistol stages. There will be both open and limited rifles/pistols available for participants to try. $20 for non-RCWA members, $15 for members. Registration will begin at 1 p.m. This is a great way to get your family involved with shooting sports. Salisbury, NC Tom
  3. All the dealers I have talked to here in NC about buying a 929 say MSRP ....until they get them in stock they will no know what the price is, seems odd. For a dealer online where they are priced at $1022. Tom
  4. Why?You're not shooting against divisions that allow more round capacity. It would make no difference to your standing if an open gun didn't need to make a mag change. You're only shooting against revo's. Either you're scoring major or minor. Why minor vs major?...projectile must pass thru target and backer to be scored...steel must be knocked down to score.Done. Tom
  5. If USPSA allows a gun that only holds 6 rounds....then all divisions and classifiers must shoot 6 and reload. Only fair!! Tom
  6. So what mover do I want to shoot and what time of day. Tom
  7. I did not find the info on the 38-44 case (from the Smith forum) but i did find this link. http://smith-wessonforum.com/s-w-hand-ejectors-1896-1961/84157-calling-all-38-44-hs-ammo-collectors-fans.html Tom
  8. How is it determined which mover you shoot on ? Tom
  9. Hence my comment of "Sort of." Right now it's really up to the RM to decide if the topic comes up..... Fortunately I haven't had to make that call..... As to Flex's comment "Hard to enforce = legal? No, of course not. I'd argue that Hard to enforce = higher probability of erroneous calls being made. And those calls could go either way -- favor the shooter, or favor his competitors...... Thinking about how difficult a particular requirement is to enforce should be a critical component of the rules making process..... Nik,your comment about rules enforcement is the best I have ever heard!!! I agree 100 percent. Rule book would be much thinner. Tom
  10. Soo... are all M&P's without optics now approved for production? What about weight? Tom
  11. Jake, I think a better question is why and when did they get taken off the list? Tom
  12. The looks of the one in the flyer... Ugghhh...ly The one in the action shot looks much better. I see the little divots in the mags. Were those double stack mags? Forced to be just 10 rounders? <Beretta haters> "BUT, BUT, BUT!!! Out on the street that slide mounted safety will get you killed! </Beretta haters> Yes the divots are 10 rd mags. It is a decocker only. Tom
  13. I have Bladetech holsters for my 4" and 5" guns, probably got them from Speed Shooters Specialties a forum dealer here. Looks like you could dremel a Bladetech 1006 holster to clear the slide stop on a 5906. Tom
  14. A few years ago there was an attempt to get Starline to make 38-44 brass but it did not work out after pricing the new tooling required. Tom
  15. The two 5" product codes I know of are #170265 and the IDPA #170306. The 4" gun is #170093. Tom
  16. I think you mean .38 special high speed loads from the 1930>1940's. 38-44 is another caliber and what Smith&Wesson called a large N frame (used for .44) but was chambered for .38 Special. Tom Actually I think it tended to be both in the common language, unless you are talking about that necked-down one...which seemed to work a little bit better with the chamber cut square in front and putting a plastic sleeve over the bottlenecks. Kinda like an outside sabot for the case... I remember hearing some old timers calling the N-frame .38 Special *guns* .38-44s, and it may have even made it into print a few times. More often, it was the loads called that. I could take a look in Sharpe's book for .38-44 loads, but many of the powders listed there are no longer produced, and other powders I'm interested in didn't exist then. Sharpe's book has very interesting loads, especially when looking at bullet weights and FPS. Tom
  17. In my example above, the stage is more of a reloading stage as opposed to a shooting stage. Shoot 6, reload. Shoot 1 reload. Shoot 6 reload. Shoot 1 An 8 shot would have a big advantage. Seems pretty easy to me, with the big difference in capacity 6>29 all divisions 6 shots relaod. Now there is no advantage. And while we are at it no PF requirement. Tom

  19. Do all dealers get the same price from the distributor and do distributors get the same price from Smith. Seems odd when a dealer say's better buy it from them because they can sell it cheaper than I can buy it? Tom
  20. Try this with the chrono. I always shoot over the chrono at 10 feet in 20 rd strings. Use the chrono session as shooting for groups practice. With the chrono at 10 ft pick your target distange ( I usually shoot 25yds).Shoot 20 rounds with the target at the top of the screens then middle and botton and compare. After trying this with CED and Oehler it seems like you get higher FPS the lower you shoot in the screen. I now put the target in the center of the screens. If you really want to confuse yourself, try shooting the same load over the chrono two handed, strong hand, week hand. It is real easy for me to shoot 100rds in a chrono sesson . Tom
  21. One thing to try is check front sight focus strong hand weak hand also. I am at the point where front sight is in focus shooting Bullseye (one handed) not while shooting two handed. There is almost 6" difference between eye and front sight on my guns(4" revolver to 6" semi auto) prone is another issue especially with head phones. Tom
  22. Western Powder used to pressure check samples sent to them for a fee, last time I asked they stopped that service. Tom
  23. I wish all manufactures would published temp>velocity pressure specs! A while back I tried this experiment with a 6" S&W 686 used in NRA Action Pistol Production class 120 PF min. Over a couple 95 degree days I tried a lot of temp issues. Take gun and ammo out of the house and shoot, leave ammo on tailgate for two hours and shoot, very hot to hold, put ammo in freezer, put gun in freezer for two hours Did not see and significant difference in chrono results. Only significant changes (both lower FPS} were not keeping barrel tillted back between shots and keeping the gun on the tailgate for two hours then shooting (ammo that was in the feezer ,ambient temp, ammo left on tailgate). Tom
