  1. Thanks for the suggestions. I was trying to minimize the amount of time I'm spending with a hammer pounding targets into the ground. I dig the idea of Auto Poppers. I have seen at least one person post pictures of short (12-18") sections of tubing that they used as targets, but I can't remember where I originally saw it (Doodie Project?). Anyone else seen this?
  2. My local club does not allow clay targets to be used on their pistol bays due to the mess that they create. I need to figure out targets that are quick to set-up, and can be used for shotgun practice. Specifically, I need to put some time on shooting and moving, and target transitions, so I need to setup 4-8 targets at a minimum. I've seen several types of steel knock-over targets (either hinged or non-hinged), but they seem time consuming to set up when I have limited time at the range. Can anyone suggest what they would use in these kinds of situations? Thanks.
  3. I'm on the same page as T Bacus - I run 1-1/8oz 1145fps Winchester Top Gun in my 1301. Sure, I could go lighter, but I care more about the harder shots.
  4. I still have the factory mid-bead, and added a bigger fiber front sight. No issues hitting slug targets at 100yds.
  5. As the NH 3 Gun scene's 1301 fanboy, I've shot a 21" 1301 for the last 18 months, and liked it enough that I got a second. You can get them for US$950-1050 out the door. It's ran 100% for me, after a brief break-in period. I quad load strong hand, and have gotten pretty aggressive with my loading port - check the attachments. I dig it. It points well, it reliable, and shoots slugs like a laser. Hope that helps. -Josh
  6. This is my second iteration of the loading port on my 1301. About to make the third iteration on my new 24" gun as well. Yes, the serial number is a pain. I found that I got the most gains by lowering the left side of the port, so my thumb goes deeper into the port. Seems to work well for me.
  7. I came to a very similar conclusion towards the end of 2015. Making sure that I see the sights every time and being consistent (instead of trying to burn it down) resulted in a much better end result. The visual patience portion of the equation has quickly shown itself as being vital to my personal performance.
  8. I liked my Hiperfire 24C so much I bought two more, for a total of three. Every one has run without a hitch.
  9. C'mon, we were talking about guns. Why did you have to go and bring money into this?

Thanks for the heads-up, just bought some from PV. Still available.
  11. My stock-as-a-box-of-rocks STI Marauder
  12. I've shot a buddy's P30 with no hammer bite issues, and the owner of the gun has giant hands, it doesn't seem to bug him.
  13. I learned the benefits of 12-rounds in the tube before I shot the VersaMax Shotgun match at Tarheel. I would have been screwed going in with a 9+1 capacity.
  14. I switched from a G17 to a STI Marauder, and I found that the triggers were different enough that it helped me break some bad habits that I had picked up when running a Glock. If it were me, I'd do it before the season and get some time behind the gun. I personally don't like changing gear mid-season.
  15. I'm seriously considering one of these. Either that, or I have to put my wife to work filling primer tubes by hand.
  16. Between 1000-1500 rounds through my 1301, mostly Federal Top Gun 1oz. Dead nuts accurate with slugs. I'm working on a blog post with a more detailed writeup. I like my 1301 so much that I just purchased a second.
  17. Yep, I've given up on waiting for a Sphinx Production. Hey Kriss USA--Look at Eagle Imports with their X-Calibur/K100 X-Trim to see how it's done. They have brought a gun that shooters are excited to run, been pretty transparent with the process, and are working to get parts and aftermarket support.
  18. Why not send it back to STI? I've been impressed with their warranty department thus far. warranty@stiguns.com
  19. I recently bought a STI Marauder 9mm. I have ~400 factory rounds through it, and it runs perfectly. My issue is with the magazine that was sent with the gun -- it was out of square, or something like that. It would get into a bind between the forward edge of the frame, and the rear of the magazine well. This caused it to have to be stripped out of the gun. I received an RMA from STI, and I am waiting on them to tune and return my mag. In the interim, I have 3 other brand new STI mags, and they all drop free and don't bind up. The gun is sweet, but I'm not 100% sold on the purchase experience yet. The plan? Shoot the snot out of it through the end of the season, and decide if it'll officially take the place as my primary competition gun. Maybe I'll report back in a month or two.
  20. I have a new Marauder, and on a whim I checked the grip screws, and both were loose -- I'm glad I checked. A dab of blue Loctite 243 and that is done.
  21. All I run is 1oz 2-3/4dr 1145fps loads through my 1301. For the first few boxes, when new, I would get an occasional FTE. Since the original break-in, the gun has run flawlessly -- not a single issue. I'm not much for cleaning it either -- usually every 4-5 cases or so. I actually take the bolt out of the carrier, wipe it down, and lube it. All you have to do is push out the firing pin retainer, pull the firing pin, and the cam pin will fall out. That lets you clean and lube the neck of the bolt and the camming surfaces.
  22. Austin- Your video is awesome, thanks for posting it. I've got a GLS holster (the mid-size one) and it works just fine for my STI Marauder. I will need to make similar modifications (relieve around the mag release, trim the lever). Takes a little bit of re-learning going from ALS to GLS tho.
