Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. This is my exact load. 180 bayous, 4.7 grains of n320, OAL at 1.2 and at area 1 my PF was 171.This is my go to load in my 5 inch akai. Very accurate and in my opinion, soft shooting. Its all I load and shoot. After 30,000 rds of it this year, I might be biased but I love it. After 30k rounds bias would be expected.Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk
  2. I have cancelled my initial powder order due to the crappy reputation of the supplier and their refusal to answer any questions other than my request to cancel the order. New supplier has the following available. N320 N340 3N37 LongShot Accurate No.5 Power Pistol. I will be loading Bayou 180g RNFP for an STI 5" .40. I also load 9mm Bayou 147g RNFP for an CZ75B AccuShadow. I have been using Titegroup but looking to make a move away. Dirty and hot and maybe not the best combination for cast bullets, though the 9mm I have been using really doesnt smoke much. I am having more of an accuracy issue with the 9mm and cant seem to nail down a load that makes PF and travels in a straight line with Titegroup and cast bullets. I am leaning towards N320 as a good universal powder for cast bullets in these two calibers, but I would like any insight the more seasoned veterans might have to offer. Thanks in advance.
  3. I should have dug a bit deeper here. I have found some STI 40 cal 5" shooter using 180g Bayou and N320 at OAL 1.18, 4.7g and PF of 170. This is what I am shooting for so I will start loading at 4.5g and work up with the chrono. thanks everyone.
  4. So I just received my new STI DVC 40cal limited. I have 10lbs. of Titegroup and I just ordered 1lb of True Blue and 4 lbs of VV N320. I intend to use the 180g Bayou TCG bullets. I bought the True Blue after reading some decent reviews and I was already paying the HazMat fee. I bought the VV N320 because everyone seems to love it. I currently load 9mm only so the 40 cal load is a new one for me. It is the consensus that I will be loading long for the STI - 1.18OAL. My research tells me that Titegroup can be very unforgiving in a high pressure load such as the .40 and this is why I purchased the VV and Ramshot powders. Any load suggestion for the 40, 180g Bayou, VV n320 and even the True Blue would be helpful. Not a lot of information on the True Blue in terms of user load data. Thanks in advance.
  5. Ran 1k wsp no issue. Running federal now. No issues. Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk
  6. Thanks for all the replies! I really appreciate it. A lot of great insight and experiences. I have ordered a die set for my XL650 and quick change kit. 1K 180g RN from Bayou. So reloading will happen now vs later. It was too painful to purchase ammo online knowing I could just buy the die and bullets get what we know will work great. I agree with some posts mentioning I should get the gun, shoot it and then bring up any issues I might have, I hope I have zero. Maybe a bit of buyers remorse triggered my initial post and expectations. I ordered a couple of MDX extreme 140mm mags. The shop I bought the STI from is shipping (3) 140mm magazines with it, so I should be good there. Now all I need is mag holders and an a new holster and lots of trigger time. @Sarge, see you on the 27th at MRPC. thanks again everyone.
  7. So I just ordered the STI DVC limited and should receive it in a couple of days. Given its prevalence in USPSA and STI's reputation in general, I thought I was purchasing a quality firearm and really I still do. Then I do some reading through the forums and I start to wonder, did I buy the BMW of handguns - it looks good, has a devoted fan base, but be prepared for it not to work the way you had hoped it might even though it cost 2x as much as the other players. There is so much conflicting information out there on the STI products my head is spinning and most of this seems to be from owners. Like this article: http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2015/03/jon-wayne-taylor/deep-in-the-heart-of-texas-ttag-tours-sti/ which leads me to think this is an amazingly well built firearm that will run like a dream out of the box and should work with any ammo I throw at it because thats how they test it at STI. Then I see guns shops/smiths, that advertise here and are widely respected, offer for the low low price of $500 they will tune you new STI thus giving me the impression this $2600 gun it but a POS and without this service you should expect early wear and misfeeds. I intend to load my own ammo eventually as I currently do with 9mm, but I was hoping to pick up 1000 rounds of 160g online and get some time behind the trigger before I start reloading. Now, given all the ammo horror stories with STI products and their need for a VERY special OAL, i wonder if the ammo is not ordained by the church it simply wont run in the STI. Side note: It seems absurd a factory built gun wont run on factory ammo? So all that crying aside, tell me I made the right decision with STI over my second choice CZ TS. Please. I have an CZ Accu Shadow now and it runs like a dream. Flawless with any load. Tell me i didnt purchase a gun that i will want to drop kick, unloaded or course, across the range because the ammo was .001 out of the sweet spot and gun jams on every 4th round. BTW. The primary use for the new STI is USPSA Limited DIvision. I have been shooting production for a few years, still suck and thought why not suck in Limited as well? I had to repost this from Chris Iliff from another thread where the discussion was what USPSA gun to purchase initially. Chris Iliff SECOND......2011's are no different than any other type of firearm. If it requires a gunsmith to be on speed dial it's either a piece of crap or the owner is a dimwit. Unfortunately dimwits don't self identify...........so the guns get the blame. Which is kinda nice because it is easy work for the smith and feeds the family.
  8. Keep us informed. I am looking to purchase a 40 for limited. Either of these are better shooters than I.
  9. I have had my Accu for about 1.5 years now and I think it worth every penny. When I purchased it no one seemed to know what it was and now I get asked at about every USPSA shoot, "Is that and AccuShadow", Just tweaked some 160g Bayo RN with 2.7g of Titegroup and a PF of 128. Very accurate off hand shooting and will ransom rest it next week with this load. The 160g and 2.7g of TG make for a virtually no recoil .22 like experience. Working on 147g and 135g BBI and TG, closing in on 135g, but if the 160 is accurate at 25 yards then no real reason to spend much time with anything else. YMMV but the CZ seems to eat the 160s like any other production round. For those loading for the CZ for the first time, use your barrel as a guide, these gun are short throated and a 9mm gauge block is a waste of money, only the barrel will tell you the OAL it will accept with any bullet.
  10. Just finished some chrono work with the CZ75 AccuShadow. 160g Bayou 1.105 OAL, I think you can go a bit longer and still be okay on the CZ 30 Test Rounds 2.7g Titegroup Hi=808 Lo=797 Av=801 PF=128 - might be a little close for some.... No feed issues with this load, 3 CCI primers failed??, this is the load for my future.. Very very low recoil, think .22. Accuracy seemed good, was more after PF so just standing and popping off rounds at 30 feet or so. Will ransom rest test next for accuracy. Ran through some 2 shot drills after chrono, low recoil makes 2 Alphas very easy. Some report the 160 feels sluggish, Not in my CZ AccuShadow. =================== 135g BBI 30 round test 3.2g Titegroup Hi=1026 Lo=1003 Av=1015 PF=137 Going to adjust to 3.0 and 3.1 and run chrono again. Too high PF. No need for unnecessary recoil/barrel flip. Cycled perfectly. ========== 147g FN BBI next up. Loaded and forgot to throw in the bag this time out. Might be mute point, lovin the 160g BBI's in my CZ. 115 and 124 probably never again. Personally I don't know why one would run these light bullets with more powder unless you just really love that barrel flip.
  11. I have the AccuShadow. My suggestion is to pull the barrel out of the gun and use it as your gauge. The bullet should spin freely and if you give it a little push it should still fall right out of the barrel when turned upside down. The CZ has a short throat, if that the correct term, so you OAL is going to be shorter than most. 1.1 was cutting it close for me. Again, the safest bet is to disassembly and use your barrel as a gauge. I had to bump my mag springs up to +10% to overcome some fed issues with a 10 round mag of 135g. I am still playing with loads etc 135, 147 and 160g in my AccuShadow. I am using Titegroup at the moment, 3.1 with the 135g bullet from BBI. Loading 147's and 160's tonight for some trials on Saturday.
  12. Expecting mine in the next few weeks. Its been on order since Dec 23rd. Stuart thinks March at the latest. I hope its worth it, I am purchasing sight unseen, never held one, never shot one, nothing in my area so I had no choice. Grown tired of my XDM 5.25. Have yet to read a bad review.
