Funny thing that Hornady Steel Match is Russian steel cased ammo Made in Barnaul with Hornady bullets.
-
Don't worry about gun price. Ammo will cost much more anyway.
-
Finnish teams (gold) were using regular stocks Regular (paddle) stocks are better for most people. They are natural and if you quads weak-hand you don't have to shift your strong hand grip on the gun. I'm an exception because I prefer pistol-grip stock.
-
You missed me I was there, with Winchester 1300 with pistol-grip SpeedFeed stock. I'm quite large and with long hands, and pistol-grip stock is more comfortable for me. I'm loading quads weak-hand.

Looking at an 870, worried about reloading speed
Llandaff replied to BoHeck's topic in Rifle & Shotgun - Technique
Any shotgun is ok. Look at Shotgun World Shoot results: almost everybody in top ten Standard Manual were shooting Supernova or Nova. #5 Artem Mashechkov with half-Nova half-Supernova hybrid, #8 Pavel Orlov, Remington 870. I'm #9 with Winchester 1300. WunderFinns (gold, silver and bronze medals) - all Supernovas. It's more about shooter than gun. -
Strong vs. Weak Hand shell reload
Llandaff replied to hceuterpe's topic in Rifle & Shotgun - Technique
Looking at Shotgun World Shoot results in my class (IPSC Standard Manual): winner used weak hand reloads, 2nd place - strong hand. And everybody used quad-loading of course. -
I just throw an extra 4 rounds at the next planned reload.

What did you do today to further your 3-Gunning?
Llandaff replied to Moltke's topic in Rifle & Shotgun - Technique
Pity your 3gun stars didn't went to Italy. I wanted to see old great Jerry Miculek, Jesse Tischcshschauger, Daniel Horner and Taran Butler. -

Nice! Hope your kicking some European butt! I can't wait for the videos to start surfacing. European butt is too hard for kicking US team only got Standard Ladies victory. -
Thanks, because I was judging 3gun by youtube As for distance in IPSC Rifle: 1.2.1.5 The recommended balance for an IPSC Rifle match with regards to target distance is: 30% of all targets to be less than 60 meters, 50% to be between 60 and 150 meters and 20% to be between 150 and 300 meters. So 300m limit is a recommendation, not a rule

As for Shotgun, our stages are much less linear than your 3-gun. For example you will never see a row of evenly spaced identical clays in IPSC shotgun. Almost always you have a lot of gameplan options. Lot of shotgun swinging left and right, lot of short movements, few shots from each position.

So Riddle me this, why do we not use Speed chutes?
Llandaff replied to DocMedic's topic in Shotgun - Technical
It was imported to Canada. http://world.guns.ru/shotgun/rus/rmb-93-e.html Really not a good gun for competition. First, it's 'antipump'. Instead of pulling forend to you, then pushing it forward, you have to push the forend/barrel forward first, then pull it back to you. Loading port (on top of magazine) also wasn't designed for fast loading. Nice 'backpacker/kayaker self-defence' gun thou. Very compact because of 'anti-pump' design, DAO trigger. -
How do you protect your choke shooting Irons/Factory/Limited?
Llandaff replied to Moltke's topic in Shotgun - Technical
In IPSC we have no such decision. Magasin is always longer than the barrel -

Dunno about 3gun rules, but IPSC shotgun rules are clear on this subject. Standard and Standard Manual Divisions 20. Replacements of or modifications to elevators/floor plates, provided no part protrudes beyond the standard frame of the gun, are permitted. 21. External feed ramps as direct replacements of the carrier release button (Remington 1100 and 1187 only) are permitted. You can't use feed ramp on Standard class shotgun. -
Hi! I'm new to SIRT. What do I need to buy beside bolt? Targets?
-
Most Russian open class shooters use Vepr VPO-205 or VPO-206SP. Only 1 person I know runs tube-style shotgun in open division, only 3 or 4 use Saiga. The rest use Vepr.
-
load weak hand!
-
I concur. Straight insertion mag well (no rocking), thumb-operated mag release = very fast.
-
Why would you need to do anythinng to Vepr? Factory Vepr VPO-206SP has everything you need. Compensator, magwell, mag release pedal, left charging handle, picatinny rail for red dot sight, trigger job, enlarged gas port etc.

Most Popular Shotguns for Heavy Metal Limited (Pump)
Llandaff replied to jkrispies's topic in Shotgun - Technical
Ok. Because 1300 loading port is wide. I'm perfectly happy with my 1300, but it's very worn now. -

Sorry, what is 'inertia assisted shell extraction'? If you hold 1300 by right hand only and fire it, the bolt will go all the way back and extract the shell. Is this what you meant? -

By the way, anybody used Winchester SXP? Is it different from old Winchester 1300? -
Anyone ever try an "ambi" bolt handle?
Llandaff replied to dcloudy777's topic in Shotgun - Technical
Two charging handles (left and right) are standard on Molot Vepr 206-SP. Left charging handle is very convenient for 'condition two' starts. One of my friends removed the right-side charging handle, because it's not needed when you have left handle. -
Start with 4-Shell or "Two Load" Caddies?
Llandaff replied to M852's topic in Multi-gun Gear & Accessories
Static reloading usually means error in game plan or execution. All reloading should be done on the move. I'm using shell carrier on left hand for this (like on picture). I put 5 shells in it, shell carrier on bottom side of the arm, shell bottoms to the right. This way I can quickly pull 1 shell with right hand and either drop it into the extraction window or push it into the loading window. Both actions must be practiced regularily to be smooth. Advantages of using this type of shell carrier - when you hold the gun to your sholder, your left hand forearm is very close to the receiver, so it's short travel distance for the shell.
