  1. Duane, sorry it took 9 months to answer your question. I am not sure what you mean by severely skeletonized. I haven't done any additional skeletonizing. It is the same hammer they sell everyone else. It does cock smoothly.

    Tom Cruise...

I could only take it for two minutes. He is clearly FXXXING crazy.
  3. What do you guys think about shooting other shooter's reloads? I know there are plenty of shooters willing to work the chrono stage at IDPA or USPSA matches and shoot reloads all day long. That's o.k. with me. If you want to take a chance, go right ahead. But what about paying for a match and having to shoot a stage with someone else's gun and reloads. I've been to several matches over the years where you had to do this to complete a course of fire. It just seems like a bad idea to me. Am I being paranoid??? I have personally witnessed two double charges. I'd like to see a rule stating that you can not require a contestant to shoot ammunition with an unknown history.
  4. +1 on the Powers Series I Jig. Gene Shuey does a nice job explaining how to do a nice 1911 trigger in his AGI series. It's a special order item from Brownells, but worth the money if you want to learn how to do it right. Send me a PM and I'll try to steer you in the right direction. When you do start messing around with this stuff, do yourself and everyone else a favor. Go to the range by yourself and test fire the gun, and don't put more than two rounds in the gun. When you start playing around with things you haven't fully figured out yet, exciting things will happen. Good Luck. Be Careful.
  5. I saw that episode too. That's why I posted this topic. Last year at S&W, I asked Doug Koenig about it. The fixture was made by Joe Comilini (at least that is what I remember, but I'm not 100% on the name). Comilini made around ten, and Doug got his hands on one. I offered to buy it from him, but he wasn't interested in selling it. Doug tests all of his barrels in that fixture before the gun is built. It was certainly not a ransom rest. Doug said he won't use a barrel in his gun (bianchi I believe) unless it will produce sub 1 inch groups at 50 yards. I agree with everyones opinion about fit being very important. But a barrel only capable of 2" at 50 yards isn't going to get anymore accurate by fitting the barrel to the gun perfectly. Since I don't have a fixture to test a barrel before the gun is built, I was just wondering.......
  6. Can you buy a barrel from a manufacturer that has been tested for accuracy?
  7. The match hotel is full. They do have suites left at $179/night. The Fiarfield Inn by Marriot has rooms for $84.99/night. The number there is (217)223-5922. The address is 4315 Broadway, Quincy, 62305. It's twelve blocks from the match hotel.
  8. Manny Bragg sells poppers and plate racks. I just bought a plate rack for $150 bucks. Should be here any day.
  9. The Extreme Engineering hammer and sear are excellent. Looking at the engagement under a microscope, the primary angle is perfectly parallel to the hammer hooks. Bob Perkins does a nice job. I'm won't use anything else.
  10. +1 Last year at S&W, I asked Doug Koenig who made the most accurate 1911 barrel? According to the Bianci Cup Champion, Kart is the most accurate .45 barrel. Edited to add: You can't say that a given barrel is "accurate enough" for USPSA or IDPA or whatever shooting sport unless you never miss a target. If I miss a target, I know it was me- not the gun.

    Nurses

I have the utmost respect for nurses. They are the unsung heroes of the medical field.
  12. I didn't know Jeff very well, but I was always glad to see him at matches. He was a really nice guy and fun to hang out with.
  13. When I shipped ammo for nationals, I called UPS to arrange home pick up. AllI did was write ORM-D on the package with a big black marker, paid with a credit card and it was a done deal. It really was a piece of cake.
  14. I remember what happened every time I see this picture:
  15. Jameson was my favorite until an Irish friend of mine brought a bottle of Paddy with him when he came for a visit to the U.S. a couple of years ago. Paddy is my favorite now, but it is hard to get. http://www.paddy.ie/
  16. Thanks everyone! My wife is coming home today. The boy is staying another night in the hospital to get his bilirubin levels down. He'll be home tomorrow. In all honesty, I'll probably start these kids out with Glocks or Revolvers. 1911's aren't for beginners.
  17. If you buy one and intend to fly with it, make sure you check the airline regulations. I originally bought a Pelican 1650 and learned that it was just a little too big. By big, I mean height + width + length has to be within a certain number. I believe NWA was around 62 inches (but I'm not sure off the top of my head). I think the Pelican 1650 was 2 inches over the limit. I've never seen anyone get out a tape measure, but if they did, it would be an additional fee. Also, the cases are heavy. There is a weight limit. The 1650 weighs in at 35#'s and the weight limit is 50#'s. 200 rounds of 45 ammo is around 11-12 pounds. With guns and gear, it would have been over the weight limit for a domestic flight. I do remember reading somewhere burried in the airline regulations that rifle cases are exempt from their linear dimensions regulation. (I print all of that stuff off and take it with me to the airport. The people working the counter have no idea what their regulations are. You have to educate them on how to do their job). Good luck. I ended up sending the 1650 back and buying a Pelican 1610. I couldn't be happier. +1 on cases4less.com
  18. Thanks everyone. I've been watching eBay auctions, and I think the sellers have ambitious goals.
  19. It's obvious that dude spends way too much time masterbating.
