  1. I guess this is another reason to load your own ammunition! I used to live in Illinois and now live in Michigan. The anti-gun environment in Illinois was incredibly painful for me. You can't buy ammunition, gun powder, primers, pistols, rifles, shotguns, etc. without a firearm owners identification card. And forget about ever obtaining a concealed carry permit. Now that I live in Michigan, I love it. I can walk into any place that sells ammo and buy it. Same goes for primers, powder, etc. And now that I have a concealed carry permit, I can purchase anything (except full auto) that I want. Crime here is nowhere near what it was in Illinois, and there are far fewer police officers. Go figure!
  2. Does it come with an instructional video?
  3. Several months ago, I purchased 5K rounds of 9mm "range" brass off of e-bay. I am so thankful I stumbled into this thread, because the A-merc brass has been such a pain in the you know what. My original plan was to just load it and go about my business. Because of this A-merc stuff, I spent hours hand sorting everything. However, I do appreciate those that identified a problem to me before I discovered it for myself- I sure didn't enjoy seeing it lock up my machine.
  4. I went to the range a few days ago. About half way through shooting, I had a round chamber. I pulled the trigger and nothing happened. When I checked my pistol, I noticed the slide wasn't all of the way forward. When I tried to clear the chamber, I couldn't rack the slide back. It was a small nightmare getting the pistol cleared. Finally, I got the round out- the head stamp read "A-merc".
  5. I read this thread and decided to see what would happen if I tried some A-merc brass I found mixed in with my other brass. It locked up my 550. When I managed to clear the machine, I noticed the depriming pin was bent. Unbelievable! Because of this thread, I hand sorted over 5,000 9mm rounds. Thanks for the heads up. You've saved me a lot of irritation.
  6. The primer tube should be straight up and down. It may appear a little crooked until you tighten down the knurled knob. That will line everything up. When I'm setting up the powder station, I'll cycle the machine and turn the powder funnel assembly until the fail safe rod is lined up sufficiently enough so everything cycles smoothly. Yes, there will be some tilt to the fail safe rod- it will not line up straight. As far as the wing nut on the fail safe rod goes, I tighten it enough so that when you are seating a primer, the powder bar cycles all the way to the left. It sounds as though you have tightened the wing nut enough, and as long as the powder bar cycles all the way to the left after you've seated a primer, you should be fine!
  7. I spoke with a Glock rep a few months about this very topic. I also shoot a G21 and was having the same problems. Apparently, Glock recommends racking the slide all the way back when reloading a fresh magazine.
  8. Hello, has anyone had any experience with the .22 caliber conversion kits for the G17? Thanks.
  9. Does anyone know if Dillon makes an instructional video for their 1050? Thanks.
  10. I use a Dillon CV-500 and plain corn cob media. After adding Ioso case polish (around 20 drops) and a splash of mineral spirits, I tumble my brass for five hours. I have a timer set up in the garage. It starts when I go to bed. The next morning it's done. The brass comes out looking like new.
  11. Does anyone know who sells a roll sizer? I have searched all over the place, and I haven't been able to find anyone that sells them. Thanks.
  12. I have a Dillon 550 and I love it. I have only ever had one small problem with it in the last three years. When I called Dillon, they sent me the part I needed at no charge. They were great to deal with. The 650 is quicker, but if you're going to load more than one caliber, the 550 is nice because it costs less set it up for a different caliber. Spend a couple hundred bucks and get the automatic primer filler and I think that will more than make up for the time difference between the 550 and 650. No matter what Dillon model you buy, you will be pleased with it every time you sit down to load.
  13. Thanks to everyone that responded. I greatly appreciate it!
  14. I don't like the Dillon bench wrench very much. One day while loading 9mm ammo, a 380 shell snuck its way into my brass stock. Needless to say, it jammed itself inside the sizing die. This had never happened to me before so I wasn't sure what to do. I decided to remove the sizing die from my toolhead. I grabbed my Dillon bench wrench to remove the nut holding the die in place. However, the bench wrench doesn't work too well when all four dies are in place- it's hard to get a good grip on the nut. I went to Sears and bought a Craftsman deep socket. Beautiful!!!!! Worked like a charm. It slides right over the die and grabs on to the nut with no problem- no clearance issues. Hope some of you out there find this useful.
  15. I have seen a lot of people recommend using the Lee Factory Crimp Die. Why do so many advocate its use? Is there an advantage to using a Lee crimp die over the Dillon crimp die?
  16. I am loading with a Dillon 550. The manual says to use regular motor oil to lubricate the press. I have tried this and don't like it because the oil attracts dirt, powder, etc. (And just in case you are wondering, I do regularly clean my press). I am wondering if anyone has figured out a better way to lubricate a Dillon press. Thanks.
  17. "Just because a military veteran spent some time living at the expense of others doesn't give him the right to live at the further expense of others" Erik, come on! We all live at the expense of our veterans. As a surgeon myself, I always give veterans the V.I.P. treatment, and I don't care who thinks it is scrofulous. I'm with Wakal, I hope I have misunderstood you!
  18. I have not been very impressed with SVI. I had planned to order one last summer, but I had some questions. After all, I've never ordered a custom .45 before. The response I received was, "How could you have any questions? It's all right there in the gun builder." I'm not sure if they are arrogant or just plain condescending. Should a $2000+ pistol malfunction as many times as I've read about them doing so on this forum?
  19. Rufus, While it is true that the Doctor(s) is/are ultimately responsible for the tragedy that occurred at Duke, it is unreasonable to expect the Doctor(s) to double check everyone's work 24 hours a day. Your lack of insight directs your hatred towards the wrong people.
