  1. Started loading as a teenager in the 70's with a Lee Handloader. Used a hammer to size, prime, seat bullets in the dies and a scoop to measure powder. Then graduated to a RCBS single stage with a real scale!!! Bought my first Dillon press (a 450) in 1983. Since then I've owned a 550, 2 Square Deals, a 1050 and currently a 650 and a Square Deal.
  2. I'm wanting to set my Benelli S90 up for open class. I have never shot open class in 3 gun. What barrel length would be best? Is barrel porting much of an advantage? What are the pros/cons for electric vs. open sights on an IPSC shotgun? And does the Arrendondo loading chute help with loading??? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
  3. The website says..... Pistol 150, Rifle 150, Shotgun 100 birdshot, 25 slugs. Estimate!!!! My flight also arrives Thursday just before 2pm. Hope to get to the range and see everything and confirm zero.
  4. Erik, Tell me about it!! The only time my Benelli has ever jammed at a match was at DPMS right after I shot the popper with the flipper. By the time it was cleared the bird was on the ground and I had a FTE. Murphy is alive and well and he loves coming to matches!!! LOL
  5. At the DPMS 3 Gun last year there was a failure to engage penalty if you didn't shoot at the flippers. No penalties for misses but you got dinged with a FTE.
  6. I also recently had a Bedell shorty built. It has been 10 years since I last shot open class. I mainly went with a shorty because I have been shooting Glocks exclusively for the last several years and I really like the feel of a short light gun. Dan builds a great gun and I believe it is capable of whatever level of shooting that the operator is.
  7. I have the same problem as Chuck due to a bout with Bells Palsy. I cannot physically close my right eye without closing my left. My solution is a pair of the flip down sunglasses. I cut off the left side lens and painted the right lens black. I clip them to my shooting glasses and, when I have to shoot weak hand with a long gun, I flip down the lens covering my right eye. That is the only way I can get a sight picture with a long gun weakside. Works for me!!!!!
  8. Great match. I always love getting down to Bluegrass for their monthly 3 gun. It's really great to see so many new 3 gunners also. I think we have Aikidale and Airedale hooked!!! Mike, great pictures. You even managed to get a picture of my best side (the rear). See you guys next month same time same place.
  9. RS I run a Leupold 1x4 scope and a JP Tactical sight on my CTR-02. I find little difference speed wise between the two on close range targets where there is no movement. Where the JP sight really shines is when I'm engaging close targets on the move and also on stages where there are a mix of close and long targets. On those stages I can crank the power up on the scope to engage the long targets and use the JP sight for the close. If the stage is a close range stand and shoot stage, I will usually just use the scope on 1x and not use the JP sight.
  10. Chuck, I've been running a 21" field barrel on my S90 for about a year now. It was a vast improvement in every way from the 18.5 ghost ring barrel I was running. I was running Remington light target loads at Wilmore on Sunday with a Modified choke and the steel were no problem.
  11. John Wayne too many to list them all The shooting lesson scene from The Shootist The opening scenes of Cahill US Marshall "Fill your hands you son of a b****" True Grit Clint Eastwood Everything in The Outlaw Josey Wales and Unforgiven Sam Elliott A true classic "Now it's a good day Sgt. Savage." We Were Soldiers The training scenes from The Rough Riders
  12. Dave, Wecome to our affliction!!!! 3-Gun is great and you're gonna love it!!!! Steve
  13. I carry 9rds in the gun, 14 rds on the gun in 3 Gun Gear carriers and usually two 6 rd. carriers on the belt. That's 35 rds and if the stage is really high round/difficult I have worn 3 belt carriers. Once again not so much missing, although that does happen, it's just so easy to drop a shell while loading/moving. Always have extra!!!!
  14. Love mine. I've used it in several tactical matches with no problems. It really rocks on the close stuff which allows you to run your scope at higher magnification for the longer/difficult targets.
  15. Lucas, I have one that I'll let you have for $25.00 shipped. Let me know.
  16. Garrett, I use an 03A3 for the military bolt gun match, but SMLE's and Mausers are also used very effectively. The Schmidt-Rubens can also be very effective due to there staight pull bolts. They are very fast but excellent accuracy with moderate speed is what usually wins the rifle matches at Knob Creek.
  17. BTW, If your using a .223, make sure you use a heavier bullet or aim high on the plates because they are heavy.
  18. Garrett, I live about 20 miles from Knob Creek so I have shot all the matches at one time or another. The subgun and the rifle matches are the biggest. The pistol and shotgun matches are/were (haven't shot them lately) scored using "tactical" standards. The subgun matches are/were (haven't shot them lately) run more like IPSC matches with scoring being time. The rifle matches, assault and military bolt, are run on the same course that is basically the same every year. Anything goes on the assault rifle match as far as gun modifications go so an IPSC open/tactical gun is the way to go. The military bolt guns need to be basically stock. The rifle match is shot on steel with only 1 round allowed to be fired at each plate from left to right. There are usually 4 firing positions, standing, kneeling, sitting/prone and one unorthodox position usually in some type of vehicle. There are 5 steel targets in each array with a sixth bonus plate on the first two arrays and a stop plate on the last array. Ranges vary between approx. 30-125 yards. There is approx. 10-20 yds of movement between each firing position. There is also 1 paper bullseye target that will be engaged with 5 rds. One magazine change must be made somewhere between the first and last shot. The score is the shooter's time minus bonus for each plate target hit plus any penalties for misses. The winning scores will always be in negative time. I only shoot the rifle matches now and overall I enjoy them. Make sure that you sign up early because there can be alot of waiting to fire these matches.

    Victory

Nothing like waking up in the morning and finding that victory is ours in all races!!!!!
  20. Stick with either an ACOG or an Aimpoint ML2. Both are battle proven and will hold up under the conditions.
  21. I have a Leupold 1-4 power on my Tactical AR. I think it gives the best of both worlds. 1 power for the majority of close courses and up to 4 power if you have a long shot or need the magnification for a tougher close shot. I used to have a 1.5-6 Burris and I liked that as well but the extra .5 magnification made it slower for up close.
