  1. 3 gun is for shooters that can't win at USPSA. The money is in production because that is where the most guns are sold. Simple as that. If Open guns were marketed to [inappropriate reference removed by Moderator], then that is where the money would be... but its hard for them to come up with the money, living in their moms basement playing video games, so they shoot production instead Wha-huh? I'm kinda sure that Taran Butler, Voigt, and Horner (and a bunch of other 3Gr's) have won at USPSA. And the money in pistol is no where close to what it once was. 3G is where some of the top USPSA shooters have gone because there is money to be had there. Another plus for production may be that 9mm is the caliber of choice in 3Gun...Since there is no major/minor scoring, it's capacity that is key. You could do both 3G and USPSA without any equipment change.
  2. No-no, thank you Sheldon. Your friends and the other locals (and a goodly number of us shooters) support you and this match because of the respect we have for you. Running a monthly club not to mention a match this size is no small feat and I for one am grateful for the effort. Besides that, watching your son guarding the stat shack and fending off potential threats with his toy rifle made me grin from ear to ear. So stinkin' adorable!
  3. It wouldn't be practical to have 400+ people tromping through the prize tent ahead of time; not to mention the potential problems that those who are less the honest could create. However, Phil Strader handled this at the ProAm (pistol event) in an interesting manner. A pdf of the prizes goes out to the competitors before the match. Each prize bundle has a number correlating with the list. As prizes leave the table, the number is announced so you could tick it off (if it was a prize you were interested in). If you are further down the list, you know what should be left there for you to choose from. And, it speeds up the selection process so everyone gets thru quicker. However, it is more work on the front end.
  4. Pardon the completely inappropriate image but this match is a rocking good time! Thank you Mr. LaRue - BBQ Brisket and donuts too, BRILLIANT! Thank you Sheldon, Marcie and all the staff for their hard work. And finally thank you squad 19 for making it so much dang fun.
  5. Doh! My check is on it's way for the balance. I had major upgrades to do over spring break while all the students were gone and I plum forgot to get my fee in the mail.
  6. I guess the "electronic registration" was a no go? I got the same non-secure credit card page as others... it doesn't look much like the sample registration pages posted earlier. No one dollar extra fee, no wait list option listed at all. Is this right or did I post my cc # to the interwebs for all to use?
  7. My wonderful hubby is getting me a 1050 for my bday. I currently have a 550. I'm jumping into doing more 3Gun next year so here is my thinking for the 1050. I'm going to set it up for .40 as that is what I'll shoot all my IPSC matches with and I'll use the 550 for .223 as I'll only be loading the "precision" rounds on it. The 55gr's needed for CQB stages I can get for cheap so I don't know there is a point to loading them on the 1050. HOWEVER, since I have all the pistol caliber dyes I'd ever want to load, I was thinking of getting the .223 dies with the 1050 and then dropping the .40 dies into the toolhead ...Or can I not do that? IOW, can I use the tool head that comes with the .223 dies and put my .40 dies into it? And secondly, can I take the .223 dies and throw them on a 550 toolhead? Yeah, I could probably RTFM to get an answer but I figure someone on here already knows and will tell me straight... Thanks!
  8. Pith and Vinegar! Well, I thought I WAS going to this match but now I'm NOT. If anyone is interested in a slot, send me a PM. Thanks! Carina
  9. Thank you Trapper and Kurt! It was an excellent match with lots of challenges. There's a few new items on my 'to do' list now! Squad 10 was outstanding, good to see old friends and make new ones! And Jesse, thanks for the hospitality. Now it's time for more coffee, I'm still dehydrated!
  10. For those that are curious - I opted for a medium shirt with the name "Team America." I couldn't pass up the joke - it was just too sweet - and it was suggested by a serviceman via PM who wanted an extra for himself. Another medium shirt bears the Greek phrase "Molon Labe" which I hope I shouldn't have to explain. But in my thinking, it means "the gold belongs to the US team, come and take it!" Team Agon ran a close second but I'm thinking because of the movie 300, molon labe isn't as an obscure a reference. I was sorely tempted to get one for personal use with the name "Armed and Fabulous" but my pocket book dictated otherwise. I'm gonna make a suggestion to the appropriate people that Women of USPSA raffle a shirt or something....cos that would just be awesome. Thanks for all the ideas! It was really tough to choose. Oh...and now for the shameless plug. If you all have a facebook account, kindly like my "athlete" page at facebook's Capt. Self Promotion page
  11. There is...emblem is on the chest. Kinda' hard to spot on the smallish pic I uploaded.
  12. Hello Benoverse! I plan to buy some extra US World Shoot shirts to take to Greece to trade with other competitors, as is the tradition. For these shirts, I can put what ever name I like on them. Since the design is so awesome, I figure the name on them should be too. Some of the suggestions I've gotten so far: Uncle Sam Team America Molon Labe Armed and Fabulous No slurs, profanity, or insults please. Post your ideas below.
  13. Thanks for the info. I'll take a look at the Montana Gold since it was so frequently recommended.
  14. Hey ya'll! So hollow points won't be allowed at World Shoot and I'm having to cook up a new recipe for a 180 grain bullet. What jacketed bullet do you prefer and what powder do you use with it? Truncated cone, flat point, round nose all feed through my STI so that isn't a worry. Thanks!!!
  15. Shooting USA this week will have coverage of the match - from 2010 I'm guessing. Good work Sam!
  16. Corrected website for High Plains Shooting Challenge
  17. Gotta add another voice to the chorus of happy campers. This match rocked! I learned so much and as a noob I wasn't overwhelmed by the stages. The RO's were hard working and helpful. The sponsors were generous and I plan to sing their praises far and wide. Sheldon told me I had to shoot this match and he was right. He and his crew did a tremendous job. It was well organized and well executed. And Kevin, if anyone can sweet talk mother nature into making the winds mild, I'm guessing Sheldon can! Now I can say I've eaten LaRue BBQ - that stuff was so good that I may suffer withdrawls over the next few days! Good thing I got some 'dillo dust to tide me over till next year.
  18. We were hoping you could register us! We won't get in until late Thursday evening. Hahaha! I was gonna ask you! We'll be arriving late Thursday as well because someone I know is a slave to the time clock (boo-hiss on PTO policies). Ah well, it'll be fine. BTW, we're doing the distance stage in the afternoon - be ready for some wind adjustments. The wind does like to blow at this range - I think it has more to do with the certain northern states sucking.
  19. Does anyone know? If we can't make check in at the range on Thursday by 6.30pm, when can we register? Friday morning before the shooter's meeting? Or can we have someone else pick up our score sheets and just sign the range waiver Friday morning? Thx!
  20. Dang Nabbit!! Went to double check my room reservation today and I no longer have one. I used points and booked thru the Holiday Inn website...called the local number for the front desk to confirm and they can't find it. Glad I checked before arriving, it would kinda suck to show up and NOT have a room at all. But of course, the national call desk wants to put me in Austin because all the "points" rooms are used up in Georgetown. Grrr. Well, there goes an extra $200 I'm gonna be spending on this match.
  21. Fun match...wishing I had signed up for Saturday instead of Sunday though as I'd have gotten more trigger time. Of course then I wouldn't have gotten the bonus microderm abrasion treatment. My complexion looks much brighter today! Some ladies drop big coin for those spa treatments - I only had to pay a match fee. It was nice to meet some benoverse folk (Hi Kyle!) And of course it was good to see the usual suspects again. Thanks Darst for loaning me a high cap and a huge thank you to Jamie for coaching me thru the match. The facility is awesome. I hope Jeremy and crew don't take so many lumps that they decide not to try again. That would be a pity so let's keep all the criticism on the constructive side. My .02
  22. Dude! So happy to see you this weekend and catch up some! Just sorry I couldn't scratch your cute little four legged friend behind the ears. Love to see pics of you dog on FB! This match was SOOOO MUCH FUN! I was squaded with all the GA boys (which was an education in and of itself, "It takes more than a little gun fire to clear a restaurant in Columbus GA." - classic quote for the weekend courtesy of Joe S.). Watching Rob Romero was like taking a University level class in being bad ass. The man has lightning in his veins! The match staff were all outstanding and I have no complaints what so ever about all the good looking range hands in uniform doing all the reset (Stage 4, truth revealed, Sgt. Howell's mother took extra pre-natal vitamins to make sure he'd be extra adorable). I got to ride in stryker, shoot a SAW and a grenade launcher, crawl thru rope/barbwire and shoot in a WWI style trench. What is NOT to love?!?!?! Sorry you had to miss it Jesse...so, so sorry! Edited to add...Soooo sorry I didn't find 3G sooner. If this is the last FB3G, I'll be sad!
  23. Got it on Monday and took it out Wednesday. Ran like a scalded dog and I was ringing the heck outta' steel at 100 yds with it! *does happy dance*
