  1. If you're not afraid to have some gunsmithing done I would get a Limited 9mm to start. Just looking at Oak Hill the Gold Team is $1,800 and the Limited is $1,100. I did a build using the second barrel from a GT with a bored out comp and fewer holes: It was an improvement, but the two port comp is just not enough. The three port comp pictured above is a big improvement and it's a factory unit available from Eric Grauffel for ~160 USD; the 6" plain barrel to go with it can be had for ~$210 from EAA. Then you can drill holes until you're satisfied.
  2. Indeed, I'm big fan of 9 major, but not of the factory Gold Team; too many holes and not enough comp. You can make major with a 9mm GT (easier with a 38), but it's blasty, hard in the hand and hard on the gun. I really enjoy this one I made from a Limited:
  3. That should be a good combo Be sure to try 115s as well before you settle I'll sell you a sample pack if you want.
  4. Where did you see this? I'm currently looking at the Ti comp but if there's sonething new coming down the pike I'll wait a bit. Thanks. Bob From the gallery at Bedell Custom, looks a lot like Jared's comp...
  5. Yes, that's the fixed rear from a TS; I filed the dovetail to fit.
  6. Bullets forward, index finger along the front of the mag, point index finger into magwell.
  7. I lean on it pretty hard and I have the ram set so I'm not hitting the stop.
  8. I really enjoyed mine, but alas, Open is my true passion, so I sold all my .40 stuff and repurposed the frame for this one!
  9. Looking good I've never had any problems with the racker on the left side: The trick way to attached a racker is with a ball detent like the Tanfoglio above
  10. I have a few like that from the early '90s it may have been called a Silver Team
  11. Cone barrels look like this: they come in the Limited, Stock I/II, and compact carry models Straight barrels look like this: they come in the rest of the pistols and could be considered "standard". The cone lockup slides are cut so that the barrel is removed out the front of the slide, whereas the straight barrels are removed from the rear, so if a compensator is attached to a straight barrel it must be removed before removing the barrel from the slide, cone comps do not need to be removed as they fit out the front of the slide. Cone comps look like this: and they screw onto a straight barrel with M15x0.75 threads to be used with a cone lockup slide. The other type of compensator which could be called a "bull barrel" compensator for lack of a better term although not exactly analogous with a 2011 "bull barrel" comp and looks like this: it installs on a barrel which protrudes out of a standard slide (threaded M15x0.75 for large frame and M14x0.75 for small frame). The guide rod also protrudes out of the slide and into the comp to keep it from turning, making it possible to run these comps without thread locker.
  12. Major vs Minor started as a way to keep 1911s in the game against the competitive advantage of the double stack 9mm Browning Hi Powers; that was 7 rounds Major vs 13 rounds Minor. In today's divisions with today's guns the advantage swings both ways: Production mandates Minor, 8 shot Minor seems to have the advantage in Revo, 10 Minor vs 8 shot Major seems pretty closely matched in SS, but Major has the advantage in the rest.
  13. I have only one piece of advice: keep moving forward. If you build a gun with a Cheely comp, two 3/16" holes, and an 11oz slide, shoot it for a season and decide you want to try something different, don't change comps, rebarrel, or cut more weight out of the slide, just build another and sell that one.
  14. I really liked this Bedell Super Shorty in 38 with three small holes and a TI comp, but I decided to stick with all 9mm so I sold it.
  15. I don't think you'd be unhappy with any of the popular choices, a Bedell, Cheely or Binary Engineering comp in TI would all serve you well. A healthy charge of HS6 under a 115 and you're off to the races
  16. Isn't that the five thousand dollar question!?! I think them most important thing for you to figure out is how you want the gun to balance (hopefully you have some friends who will let you put some rounds through their setups). Personally I like the light weight of a Ti comp.
  17. Welcome to the dark side! Get yourself one of these and never look back: Hits right where you point every time
  18. I think it would be better than the small V ports, but that's just me talking out of my ass
  19. Do they sell pins rolled as tighly as CZ pins? The generic pins I've bought did not overlap, just touched like a pinched C, and they weren't very round.
