  1. Are they all the same load? Do remember you're using the softest primers available, and none of those are flowing into the primer hole yet. I think you can give it some more
  2. How long are your tubes? do they sit flush or are they extended like to the 9mm tubes? CZC makes pads for the flush and long tubes which work with the CZC mag well. Like others said, the small frame .40's are at a capacity disadvantage for Limited, I would shoot it in L10.
  3. So the slide cycles and the case remains in the chamber? But the primers are not flattened? As an aside I always use SPP, SRP mask the effects of pressure and I strongly suspect they lead to increased breech face erosion.
  4. OK, makes sense now. I guess your options are ream the chamber or sell the HPs and buy some RN
  5. Did you mean you've tried 1.10" to 1.20"? I run Montana Gold JHPs in my Tanfo at 1.135" without any issues.
  6. Very interesting, what is your CFE load? (charge/bullet/OAL) How do the primers look? Your issue sounds more like an extractor problem than a over pressure problem.
  7. In a Tanfoglio with a 4.1" barrel I made 167pf with 7.8gr of HS6 under a 124gr Xtreme RN at 1.160", also with 7.1gr under a 135gr. I could have probably made major with a 115, but that might be a little nasty out of such a short gun My Tanfoglio barrels are faster than my STI/Schumann/KKM 2011 barrels and plated bullets are faster than jacketed, so your data may vary. What type of pistol/barrel/bullet are you using? Anything slower than HS6 is going to take a lot of powder, but you might also find success with WAC, CFE or Silhouette (I don't recommend any faster burning powders)
  8. Those are some big holes, you're going to have to get used to people being shocked by your charge weight Here's a picture I pulled from Google: I wouldn't be surprised if your primers looked somewhere between center and right. I like using SPP because they don't hide the pressure signs and seal the primer pocket better, protecting your beech face from erosion.
  9. OK, if you're going to be sharing the same gun I would see what the OAL (and if it plunk tests OK) comes to if you just change from 115 to 95.
  10. Don't get mixed up here, I'm solidly in the 95gr bullet camp, forget the 147s! With the OAL only way to know is to try, if I normally load 1.170" with a RN 115 and switch to a RN 100gr the OAL shrinks to ~1.110" because of the difference in bullet shape. You can also try flipping the seating insert to avoid changing the die. If you want good advice you have to first decide which direction you want to go, the way I see it you have three good options, two in minor and one in major: 1. work up a major load using 147gr bullets over 6-7gr of HS6 (should be slightly quieter/softer, but will flip more) 2. shoot Production ammo (147gr bullet over a small charge of fast powder) in your Open gun which will feel like a heavy Production gun with a dot (may need to change springs to cycle) 3. load a minor load using 95gr bullets and a moderate charge of HS6 (7-8gr) depending on the charge weight you may not need to change springs to cycle this load and it will definitely be the flattest/softest of the three. It's not the quietest, but it will be quieter than your major load (is she using foam ear plugs under muffs?)
  11. First rule of Open: "a lot of people" are talking out of their ass! It's up to you to decide if I am too Comparing charge weights of powders with different burn rates is like comparing apples and oranges. Your only indicator of pressure is the primers: Federal pistol primers are the softest on the market so they're going to be the most sensitive indicators for you, what do they look like? Are they still round at the edges? or are they completely flat? We can only work with the information you give us, you mentioned ports in your last post, how many and how big? A picture is worth a thousand words. I've found 2011 barrels (I'm assuming your gun is a 2011?) vary greatly in the velocity they produce with the same load so if you have a slow barrel with lots of big holes using slow bullets like MGs, you may not make major with the same load as others.
  12. No, I've never seen one in person, but it looks to be a similar height to the Match adjustable rear
  13. I've loaded 10gr of SP2 under a 100gr bullet in 9mm, that's loud The easiest thing to do is leave the charge the same and switch to a lighter bullet, but if you drop the charge too it will make her giggle You really can't just look at the charge weight, comparing powders with different burn rates is comparing apples to oranges. Looking at the Hodgdon load data for 95gr bullets, 7gr probably won't even cycle, they list 7.3 making just 117 PF and 7.8 making just 127 PF. I have some light bullets if you want to buy a sampler pack.
  14. The Henning fixed rear for the match is really tall, you could grind it down, but it would be a lot of work and there wouldn't be much left. Another alternative to get a fixed rear is this one from EAA: http://eaacorp.com/gun_accessories/index.php/parts/tanfoglio/witness/sight/tactical-sight-101230.html
  15. Nope, a friend borrowed an gun once and returned it smoother than I'd ever felt it, I asked what he used and he replied "Mobil One ;)" I use Mobil One Synthetic ATF when I actually clean my guns, otherwise I wipe off the soot, apply a little Slide Glide to the rails and go.
  16. If you're going to a heavier bullet to make major in Open, you're going in the wrong direction if you ask me. What scares you about going over 9gr? Are the primers all flattened out? I've loaded as much as 10gr of SP2 in a 9mm and 12.4 in a 38 granted, SP2 is way slower than Silhouette (why are you shooting Silhouette in 38 anyway?). In 38 I like N105 or 3N38, if you're not willing to spend VV money, you could try AA#7 or even AA#9, HS6 would be as fast as I would recommend for 38 (Hodgdon recently came out with a burn chart with HS6 faster than WAC, CFE, and Sil, but that's just not true in my experience). The whole reason to shoot 38 over 9mm is case capacity, if you're not going to use it why bother?
  17. You sound like a USPSA Open shooter, what are you doing in IDPA?!?
  18. If she's not worried about being competitive, why shoot Major? 7gr of HS6 under a 95gr bullet will be very nice.
  19. I usually pick up fresh brass at the range before I shoot, then leave mine behind; generally means I'm shooting once/twice fired brass.
  20. The threads for the bushing are cut through the hole where the pin would go, but the sight can't leave the slide because the back of the bushing holds it in the dovetail.
  21. OK, I measured in inches: 0.190" high (off the slide) x 0.120" wide. I would prefer 0.100" wide.
  22. Yes, I watched a few Youtube videos and figured that out. I might still make my own
  23. I used a 6mm front, it's the tallest front which came with my Hunter and I shaved a mm or two off the rear to make it work.
