Ahh ya. That blue tip has a little slot on the side that when aligned falls down into place. You can feel it go that last like 1/8” when you drop it in and gently turn it.

i f*#ked one up the first time I replaced mine and then ordered like 10. Of coarse it’s been fine ever since.

There is very little documentation on correctly orienting the tip of the primer magazine.  Very easy to miss in the manual!

Be sure the key on the tip (#14003 - large or #14024 - small) is in the slot and the magazine is all the way down in place. Fig. 32

    Glad you figured it out!

All this sounds promising.  Thanks for the info!!

@RangerTraceWhile repurposing the MBF to the Apex 10, I decided to give it a good cleaning and recheck all the adjustments.  IMO, this early copy of the MBF user manual does a pretty good job of depicting the setup (with pics) of the nose guide and flip ramp:

So you never have to adjust shims?

So far, no I haven't.  Of course I haven't loaded a big array of different weight/shapes/styles; but of the JHPs and Blue Bullets in both weights I've loaded, the shims have not been touched!

The numbered spacer behind the stock spacers along with the big flipper ramp has, so far with the bullets I'm using, eliminated any spacer shim adjustments.

@HOGRIDERmust have found a sweet spot.  I did not have to adjust the bearings in the bullet feeder die.  I did have to adjust the spacers in the bullet feeder bowl and make a slight height adjustment with the die to prevent double bullet drops.

Obviously, due to 147 gr bullets being longer, unless you find some magical setup which @Hogrider seems to have found, I have to make adjustments when using shorter bullets.

I have started recording the height of the bullet feeder spacers for all of the bullets I load to make the caliber change quicker, versus the trial and error method which can take up a decent amount of time for caliber conversions.

@Boomstick303 About a year and a half ago, I was also having to play/adjust with the spacer shims that come stock with the MBF kit.  Then I happen to notice this and though it might be worth a try:

    https://benstoegerproshop.com/mr-bulletfeeder-optimization-kit-by-primer-catchers/

The spacers and flip ramp actually worked great; and eliminated 99% of any adjustments I've had to make up top!  A bit pricy as I didn't use the angle adjustment guides, but I have to say it definitely made a difference in my setup!

    👍

  5. Also loaded 147g Zero JHPs for a LONG time!  Then switched to their 125JHPs; and now using the PD 124 JHPs..........

So far, I've not had to make any adjustments to the MBF for loading either.  IMO, the shapes/ogives between the two weights is close enough to not warrant any changes.  124/125s are a bit shorter than 147s; but I don't think that factors into the operation of the bullet dropper.

They went on sale late last night for $10 off, I grabbed two.

Also ordered a Comp-Tac holster for it as well.  15% off covered the shipping.

Ordering was easy, the waiting is the hard part...

Fantastic!  Glad to hear you stocked up on these!

Ha!  It'll be worth the wait...........

Correct analysis that I fully agree with. The Apex10 is an excellent press you have to 'understand' it well, but once set up it works like a Swiss watch. I also share the critical points highlighted by the powder measure. It costs a lot of money but it's not that functional. Personally I was considering getting the Hornady one which has the same drum system but they tell me it works better.

I'm also in agreement with the OP and @Josh Biondi.  After loading with the RL1100 for a couple of years, I'm going with the Apex 10 as I truly want to utilize a 10 station press and I am willing to devote the time to "understand it well" also!  I'll be using the Dillon powder measure to start off with as I have it working flawlessly; and just want to see if it works as well on the Apex10 as others have recommended!

FWIW:  During my first run of reloads after carefully setting up the RL1100, the primer system failed, broke parts I didn't have spares for, and had to wait almost a week for replacements.  Also had a couple of parts missing from the box.  These were minor issues, once I learned to "understand" the 1100's priming system and the frequent cleaning/maintenance it requires to confidently do single pass loading.

Once I fully understand operating/maintaining the Apex10, then I'll automate it!

Seeing others that are successfully using the various M7 presses gives me confidence I can also enjoy a 10 station press!

    😉

Fingers crossed that Armory Craft has the P322 trigger on sale for Black Friday…

@CuzBeen on the lookout for a BF sale on the AC P322 trigger...........at this point, it sure looks doubtful.

May have to bite the bullet and get one anyway.  I'm sure you'll enjoy it!

the lee udie might be a simple fix to this.  @Sarge--did that work?  no setbacks?

As others have said, this WILL WORK!

Also note that when using the Lee UDie's stock locking ring, it will have to be mounted on the bottom of the Dillon tool head.  OR, much simpler to use a Dillon standard lock ring on top!

Gunsmith Fit.  I guess it was not easy.  Lock up is really solid and the gun seems to run great with about 250 rounds through it.

Wonder if the forward underlug was able to be fit in order to take up some of that slide to frame "slack"?

Looking forward to hearing your function/accuracy reports once the barrel is broke in!

  11. After watching a video of a loaders Apex 10 running like a Swiss watch, I inquired as to his die(s) setup; particularly stations #2 - #5.  His generous reply was:

    Quote

my set up is as follows:

station 2 resizing/decapping Dillon die ( I use this die only for the convenience of finding the decapsulating rod tips)

station 3 FW arms dynamic hold down die (the best I see in the market today - THANKS AGAIN TO Will Aerni!!!!!!)

station 4 re-sizing Undersize die. Let me point out that the sizing die I use in the primer station is a U-die from Lee. As you can see from the videos I posted the shell plate has almost imperceptible zero twist. The trick I used is as follows: from the Lee's Undersizing die, I removed the tip of the decapsulating rod ( just twist the tip slightly and pull it off because it is press-fitted. Then you have to spend a little time adjusting the height of the inner rod, but with good dexterity you can get the end to push on the inner bottom of the case) . This gave me a rod that I adjusted as told so that when the primer punch pushes up to insert the primer the case doesn't move upward and also undergoes a double recalibration of the case body.

station 5 swage die Redding or Lyman. Actually I prefer the first one just because I find it faster to adjust the swaging depth because you adjust only the rod and not the whole die as with Lyman

Wondering if anyone uses the Lee U-Die over the priming station?

    Thanks @Josh Biondi!!!!!!

    :)
