  1. Picked up a Nova today with 26" barrel. Waiting for the +6 nordic tube to come in stock at brownell's so I can order it and a couple of other things. Is there a specific front sight or sight combo that is desirable or considerable better than the current mid-bead and red FO out front? What about side saddles on the receiver or buttstock. In Central IA there a few and far between 3 gun matches so I think having 15 rounds on the gun would do me for most courses of fire. If the permanently attached ones are ill advised is the slip on buttstock saddle a bad idea? How about chokes, I believe mine came with IC, F and M. What would you suggest? Thanks guys
  2. I ordered one after reading this thread. T he guys at BMP took very good care of me and communicated very effectively, while I endured a wait time that was almost 4 times longer than quoted because of an issue with backordered components to the manufacturer. I still paid full price, I thought they might say "hey thanks for waiting so long here's a 10% coupon code / shipping's on us", but I'm still happy with my purchase and would/will be ordering another sometime in the future. My only tip would be to order an inch or so long than necessary. I sent them my waist measurement plus an inch and I only have about 3/4 of an inch of velcro overlap on the cinching portion of the belt. I like the belt, it looks good, it's rigid and it easily supports all of my gear for both SS and production.
  3. Are the Eddyville matches going to continue in 2013? Are there any other multigun matches in the center of Iowa? I live a bit north of DSM and shoot USPSA and IDPA, but would like to give 3 gun a shot.
  4. Thanks Jesse, I found the gunzoo link on another thread and checked it out. Very cool of you to do something like that where we can all see what mods you're running on various guns. I'm debating internally and with the lgs on whether I get a supernova or nova, I feel that my wallet might win if both are available. Thanks for taking the time to answer, very much appreciated.
  5. Awesome shooting Jesse, I get a kick out of every one your vids. If possible could you explain the modifications you make to your nova? Any reason you choose the nova over the supernova? Thanks in advance.
  6. Thanks Jtielke, makes perfect sense. I'm on the hunt for a supernova/nova with a 24" or 26" barrel currently. dhill: Does your tube extension run flush with the barrel or is it longer?
  7. I'd like to also add a question with the hope that it doesn't derail. If you are using a mag tube extension that goes past the barrel why not run a barrel that runs flush (or at least close) to the tube extension? I see a lot of videos with a tube extension that's half a foot (or so it seems) longer than the barrel, what's the thought process behind that? I'm a 3 gun newb, never even shot or attended a match as local matches are next to non-existent in central iowa, but I'm trying to learn.
  8. for production I use a comptac belt feed and an uncle mike's double mag pouch. cost me $150 and my mag pouches are set. I like the belt feed because it takes up so little belt space and provides a good clean draw for reloads. The uncle mike's pouches are cheap and if they break are easily replaceable.
  9. What's the max length you'd suggest for a pump? I'm strongly considering a supernova, but it's hard to find one locally that's 24-26 inches. Locally I can find 28 and 18.5 inches all day long, but ideally I'd prefer the 24-26 inch models Thoughts?
  10. There is absolutely no difference between g17 mags and g34 mags. They hold 17 rounds and are identical. Gen 3 mags work in a gen 4 as long as you have not switched the mag release to the right side of the gun. Gen 4 mags have mag catch cutouts on both sides of the mag while gen 3 mags have cut out on the left side only.
  11. I do something fairly similar to my production gun. I use different colors of athletic tape (whatever color I have on hand black, yellow red whatever) and wrap very similarly. As high as I can without touching the trigger guard and mag release. It greatly helps with my grip and combined with a little powder it makes a sure grip on the hottest/high humidity days. I got a couple questions about the legality and responded with the above appendix, got an ok.
  12. I have my mag pouches full of mags with 10 rounds. I keep an 11 round mag in my pocket. If loaded start, put the 11 rounder out of my pocket into the gun. If unloaded leave the 11 rounder in my pocket. I won't go for it, and I know the consequences of using it. It's not rocket surgery boys.
  13. All of mine are vertical. 4 in a comptac belt feed and 2 in an uncle mike's double pouch
  14. First time I shot one I was determined to not a leave a plate up. Took me 15 rounds, but it was a pride thing for me. I've practiced on them, but we rarely use them in our matches. I'm now down between 5-9 shots depending on how calm and cool I am. Regardless I won't leave a plate up, I won't win the match at my current level and I'd rather run out of ammo than let the star win. Practice your weaknesses until they are strengths.
  15. Looks awesome! I'll be eagerly looking forward to the range report. Good luck
  16. awesome! The idle hands and minds are true innovators. I know what it's like being overseas and being so bored you start fab'ing stuff up. We built a mobile card room on a lhs crop, completely mobile, heated, lit and just plain awesome.

    GEN4 Beavertail

no its not. I can surely promise you that it was. That is how I got the one I have. Care to share a picture? Not calling you a liar, I'd honestly like to see one.
  18. Very cool edit. Efficiency of motion is impressive.
  19. I thought it was good. Really liked the first installment, and pretty much could forecast the plot in advance. Oh well, the fight choreography was above average and the gun play was fairly realistic (minus the never ending beretta mag). I'll probably end up owning it or having it in my netflix lineup.
  20. IDPA is a fairly simple game to follow the rules of equipment setup. holster on the belt, mag pouches on the belt concealment garment. Yet I still see guys who are too lazy to thread their holsters and pouches through their pants belt. They just use another belt and wear it above the pants line. That drives me insane, yet at the local match that I go to on occasion there are the same jokers who think this is acceptable. The guys running the match don't seem to have the intestinal fortitude to say something. Here's what I do: in a sarcastic tone I ask if they are too lazy to thread a holster like the rest of us. It gets the point across, it's fairly passive aggressive, which I hate, but I'm just another shooter, no administrative power whatsoever so what else is there for me to do. I see this at our local USPSA matches too, and I do the same. Some have changed, others just accept the shit I'm flinging and carry on like the half-tard they so obviously are.
  21. I'd like a production legal mod that would get a glock trigger down to 3.5-4#. My 17 is stock, I'm waiting for a 34 from my local fun store that is an blue line distributor. So a 34 will be my production gun and the 17 will be resigned to carry only duty again. Joed's thread was quite informative, but not something that I would want to do. ETA: that doesn't cost a lot of money. probably just chasing a unicorn, as I refuse to spend $150+ on an aftermarket trigger that's just polished oem components. I like where my trigger is at on my 17 about 4.5-5#, but a little less would always be better.
  22. I personally would love to see a how to thread. I've done the 25 cent trigger job, but I know it's nowhere near 2#. I'd be happy if mine was around 3.5-4#. No jest, no snark, I really would love to see a how to on this.

    LASIK

Got mine done about April 2010, wanted to get it done before I headed to the Stan. Simply the best money I've spend, ever. Don't hesitate, do your research, get a consultation and go for it! My cost was ~$2400 with a lifetime warranty, meaning if I'm ever not happy with my vision, I go back and they fix it for free.
  24. carry 4 in a beltfeed and two more in a UM double, plus my start mag of 11 rounds. Never had to go to the 6th mag on the belt, have only had to go to the 5 on a couple long field stages. It's just comforting to have double the ammo that's required for a stage. Mags aren't that heavy and a good belt helps for sure.
