  1. Thoroughly enjoyed reading through this thread tonight, thanks for sharing fellas.
  2. In the past I've used anything from anti-monkey butt powder to baby powder to pro grip. I tried skate tape on my grip, and it never really stuck that well. Now I use athletic tape wrapped around my grip, if it's really warm out I still carry the anti-monkey butt powder in my range bag.

    GEN4 Beavertail

Both of those are over a month old. but thanks for providing some reference, believe me I'm not holding my breath for 00bullit's pics! I can't really get excited over this. I bought the gfa to give it a shot, it changes the pull just a enough that I have to shift my hand to hit the mag or slide release, w/o the gfa it appears that Mr. Glock made the small caliber frames for my hand.

wait let me get this straight.. its not production legal to use the factory glock backstraps?also on a tangent... i hear the beavertails will be released sometime this year. Have a link to that "i hear" I'm still waiting on 00bullit to post a picture of his glock with a beavertail
  5. That's fine by me that some think of it as practice, rock on I tell 'em. I'm at a match to post better hits in a better time than anyone else there. I don't need tactical timmy to tell me I wouldn't do that in real life. I especially get a kick when tac timmy weighs about 350 and can't tie his own shoes, is lecturing me on "real life", when I put on body armor and carried a rifle everyday for a year overseas. I might know a little about "real life" gun fights. I typically just respond with a kind word and that I'd never thought of it like that, secretly hoping they'll see my veteran plates on my car as I leave. It's a game, there's rules, time kept and score tallied, I'm there to win, period.
  6. IDPA scoring is so stupid easy. Set up an excel with the correct formulas, and all you have to do from month to month is plug in shooter's names, times, points down and procedurals. For a 4 match stage should take about <2 minutes per shooter. Both of the IDPA clubs I shoot with have same day or at minimum next day scores out and on the website. We're trying to get IDPA at my current club, and I've volunteered to help, if we can do USPSA scoring live with practiscore I'm sure we can do it with IDPA, if not it's something that I could finger jam into a computer in ~10-20 minutes after a match.
  7. weird double tap
  8. To make sure I always leave with the same amount of mags I come with, all of my mags are marked and numbered with a paint pen. I seriously doubt anything like this would happen with the group I shoot with. I routinely pick up mags that are discarded in COF to return to the shooter when he's completed the COF.
  9. I use classifiercalc.com to give me an idea of where my hit factors will put me. It's not 100% accurate but it's close enough to get an idea
  10. I agree with Mfry4, you need to be agressive. Explode at the beep, get the gun out as quick as possible and get to your first shooting position. Drive the gun between shooting positions. It's hard to tell the target distance on video, but I would have been very tempted to move and shoot everything except the steel. It also looks like you definitely could have shot the last 2 arrays from one position. Why are you dropping the gun between arrays? These are all things that I need to work on as well, I try to do everything but shooting as fast as possible. Reload, movement, draw, transition do all of those fast and you'll see a big change in time. Watching it a second time - I think you could have shot the whole stage from 2 positions. The first 2 arrays straight up from the first wall, and the last 2 arrays from the last wall. It appears you're shooting limited, so that stage breakdown would work. I shoot prod so I would have been reloading after every array, still I think I would have been slow stepping through the targets vs standing.
  11. I've shot 3 matches in the last month where the temperature was never over 25* and the winds were never below 13mph. Fleece lined pants, smart wool socks and goretex boots. Smart wool long sleeve and a t-shirt, are what I shot in. While I wasn't shooting I had my good soft shell coat on with gloves and hand warmer's in my pockets. Being that cold I was more than happy to walk around and paste just to keep warm. It's fun to shoot in the cold, for me at least!
  12. G34 $600 3 mags $100 BT DOH $70 Belt $60 6 kytex pouches $90 sights $70 Total $990 with 6 mags and 6 mag pouches you're set. Before anyone tells me this is off, I recently updated from a g17 to g34 here's my cost break down from that G34 $535 Mags (11) $80 (got some good deals and 6 mags between the g17 and g34 purchases) Pouches comptac belt feed $130 kytex gear (2) $35 BMP belt $80 BT DOH $70 Dawson sights $70 Total $1000
  13. Live in Ankeny myself. check out ankenyikes.org follow the practical shooters link and that should set you up. also check out aipshooters.com. The range is about 5 miles from the 1st st exit on I35.
  14. I use a very similar if not the exact holster for both my g17 and 1911 for IDPA. Never been questioned, but I also only shoot local matches.
  15. My SS went down during this month's match at the local club. I borrowed a fellow competitors 1911 to finish up the last 3 stages. This incident further instilled in my mind that 2 is 1 and 1 is none. I have a backup for my g34, a g17 that is set up very similarly. My future firearms purchases will be to duplicate or triplicate my current firearms. I've also been setting aside an amount to pick up repair kits, springs and pins and all that good stuff that is easy to replace on the range.
  16. We got an inch or two of snow today in IA, I was grilling burgers and brats for lunch! Just because it's cold doesn't mean you have to put the grill away. This thread has reminded me that my "extra" tank is empty, guess I have #1 on my to-do list tomorrow, thanks!
  17. I use an uncle mike's double mag pouch for my g34. Cheap enough to have an extra pouch or 3 in the bag, in case of a breakage. I use the same bladetech holster for both production and IDPA. I like the DOH, but after starting SS in USPSA I took the DOH off, so I could have commonality between my holster index. I mainly shoot USPSA, with a sprinkling of 6-8 IDPA matches in a given year. If I were going to primarily shoot IDPA I would go with ready-tac pouches, and if my uncle mike's pouches do every give out, I will do that.
  18. Think I'll be hanging around the range tomorrow after my USPSA match to pattern my 3 chokes to see what happens at different distances. Just bought the thing monday, tube extension should arrive today and I already have a case of #8's to put to use. USPSA in the snow then pattern a shotgun, sounds like a good day.
  19. Agreed Flatland. Mark thanks for quantifying the shot spread.
  20. My brother shoots trap for the U of IA and I asked him how he patterned his shotgun (franchi instinct). He told me ideally a 30 inch spread at 20 yards in a minimum and 36 inch at max. Now that's for flying clays. What's the consensus for 3 gun? What spread at what distance? or is it simply know that choke x provides y spread at z distance and pick the choke that will serve best for each stage?
  21. We know this? Do you have a crystal ball?
  22. Throw in simple economics and capitalism, those things are stupid too! (/sarcasm)
  23. I will be watching this thread, as I'm very interested in the responses it could yield.
  24. Thanks Heshin, sent you a pm Co-exprs, I'll have to look around and see what I can find locally to get my hands on. I figure it'll be like pistol sights and AR optics, try a few until I find what I like.
  25. yea, decided against the saddles already on my own, glad you confirmed that it's not a good idea. I see the 6up load 2 belt ride, think one or two of those might be the trick. I've practiced the load two method already grabbing the shells off the counter and it's pretty slick! Thanks for your help! Any suggestions for front sights?
