  1. Mentioning price. Consider that you will outspend the cost of a belt in ammo alone in under 2 weeks max if you are practicing on a consistent basis. Everytime I catch myself thinking of pinching pennies for support equipment I use the ammo thought process. I have no issue throwing a couple hundred bucks of ammo a month. Why shy from spending good money on a good product and only have to do it once.
  2. Personal preference Top. We had the windows overseas and I never looked at 'em save for making sure they were fully loaded before rolling out. Another nice thing about the windows is if you use different types of ammo. You can't see the bullet but you can see the casing. steel cased vs brass. I go with the non-window for when I buy 'em, little cheaper than windows, so about dozen or so of the non I can afford to buy another over the windowed.
  3. I'm not very familiar with what is required of a sling for 3 gun, but you have chosen one of the more expensive slings available on the market. The vtac is a good sling, have one myself, it was on my m4 overseas and I cannot think of a better solution if you are required to carry a rifle all day. Having said that forfeiting just one vtac sling gets you ~$10 shy of another belt. There's nothing wrong with a used magpul sling for significantly less money or even cheaper a surplus web sling. I'd take a good look at kytex pistol and rifle pouches. They are cheap (price not quality), are easy on and off, and provide great mag retention. Plus the owner is a Texan, so you might be able to work some sponsorship deal with him, not to mention he's a great guy to do business with. I'd look to see if your college has any grants for startup clubs. My brother helped start the trap and skeet club at University of Iowa, and after contacting several staff members and alumni they were setup with enough money to buy ammo for the 25 man club for their first year, a shell reloader and under armour shooting jerseys. Beg borrow and make all the connections you possibly can. Good Luck!
  4. 1911doctor.com Alchemy Custom Weaponry. I've shot 3 of his weapons and decided to send mine to him.
  5. Brass Monkey Belt Bladtech holster with tek-lok Comptac beltfeed and an uncle mike's double wilson combat 47D's
  6. As far as pistol pouches go, there's nothing wrong with uncle mikes or kytex (brand) pouches. not real flashy, but cheap and they'll do the job. Bladetech holsters with tek-lok would make it easy for different shooters to use the same pistol/holster. Or you could buy a couple belts, set them up completely for what you intend to do and buy extra inner belts and be able to easily swap between team members. Maybe 1 belt per 3-4 shooters. But the requisite gear is not the expensive part of the sport. If you can afford to shoot ammo in practice and in matches you can afford to buy your own setup.
  7. Maybe we also overthink things a little too much. The gun is in the holster it's not going to go off by itself! The face up range and hands on head are what I've seen, I've only been shooting the game for ~9 months. It made sense the first time I saw it done, it makes sense now. If people can't handle having their hands on the head for a minute then maybe they aren't physically fit enough to partake in the game anyway. The end game: Make sure the shooter is aware of what happened/is happening. Send someone downrange to fix the issue...shoot the stage. It's not rocket surgery boys.
  8. My dog Sport was my best friend from age 5 to 22. Had to put him down, he just couldn't do it anymore. He was a puppy all the way, no matter how old he was. It's hard, but it's the right thing to do for such a loyal friend, to be their best friend in return.
  9. at our local matches we have the shooter face up range and put their hands on their head. The RO stands facing them, so there is no confusion.
  10. I get some ribbing from some of my shooting friends about the velocity of my rounds. But everytime we chrono I'm always right around 135 for my production rig. When they give me crap I just shoot their guns. I have big hands and just strangle the pistol into not jolting during recoil. Cannot wait to get my 1911 back and shoot .45's the same way. I do think there is some flubbing at our local matches when it comes to the limited and open shooters that only shoot local matches. But they aren't normally pressuring the leaders so the ribbing happens but no one really cares.
  11. Gotta have some more info on those grips! Great looking piece!
  12. Am I wrong then in thinking that the comp-tac beltfeed will be ok for SS? I've measured from inside of inner belt to magazine and it measures slightly less than 1.75", that's well within the 2" rule. I'll be new to single stack when my 1911 comes back from Alchemy and dove head in, buying up gear to shoot. I use a different beltfeed for production and am a big fan of the pouch.
  13. upper to lower rattle has little to nothing to do with the accuracy of the gun in question. Is it a OCD thing that you don't want the rattle?
  14. nail polish works just fine Not that I see a need or use for doing colorfills. But if it makes you happy rock on. Do you have any specific reasons outside of cosmetic?
  15. nice, way better than not spilling a drop of beer! Good save, weapon always pointing down range and finger out of the trigger guard. I'm sure ya got a couple good laughs at your own expense
  16. Aren't most starts either surrender position or hands relaxed at sides? If you are in the surrender position you should be surrendering until you hear the beep. Simple any creep = no longer surrendering. If hands are relaxed at sides, should they not be truly relaxed? I get the gamer thing, but relaxed is faster FOR ME. I wait for the beep, don't try to jump it. Relaxed is faster for me than all clenched up waiting for the buzzer.

    limited 10 G17

Limited has the most competitors at my club. There are only a couple guys who shoot L10, some of which only show up sparingly. There have been times where there is only one L10 shooter. I want to give him some competition as we get along pretty well and we're fairly even shooters. There's plenty of prod shooters as well, so I wanted to try something a little different but still maintain the mag change frequency as I'm sure I'll go back to prod eventually. As I said in my OP, I'm completely ok with the disadvantage of minor scoring, it doesn't bother me at all. It just forces me to shoot more accurately at the same pace. I like that challenge.

    limited 10 G17

Thanks for the responses fellas. I got a zev aluminum mag well (black) a grip force adapter (actually two, so one on the g17 and one on my carry g19, turns out I like 'em) and added some skateboard grip tape I had laying around. I normally shoot production and will probably end up going back to shooting production. L10 is just something I wanted to try to see if I wanted to maybe step into a 2011 sometime down the road for limited shooting. I have no desire to change calibers, I shoot 9mm glocks and .45 acp 1911's as Gaston and JMB dreamed they'd be shot! ha

    limited 10 G17

I started shooting USPSA this spring and up until a couple weeks ago I was content shooting production. I've gotten the itch to make a couple modifications to my g17 and try my hand in ltd 10 shooting minor PF. I'm fine with minor scoring and that disadvantage doesn't bother me. Having said all that what would be your suggestions for tuning my g17 to be the best ltd 10 gun possible while still being able to revert back to a stockish configuration still legal for production? I've ordered a grip force adapter and a magwell already. The only other modification to the weapon is ameriglo defoor sights.
