  1. With all due respect....no, I've seen every single blue color/ civil servant/ father of five/ whatever who really wanted one...like REALLY wanted one...put together the cash and buy one. Maybe not right away. Maybe not the full custom with the Tin barrel and the custom serial number, but they bought a 2011 that improved their shooting and enjoyment of the game. When I was in retail selling guns, the guys who said they couldn't afford them were always the guys bought cheap guns from me monthly and never bought a single box of ammo. So in my experience, the only people who can't afford them are people who like buying guns more than they like shooting guns.
  2. No, it does not weigh 8lbs. I think its advantages far outweigh its mass.
  3. Tac-Mod... Fully adjustable on all axis, limbsaver recoil pad and best cheek piece in the business. [mic drop]
  4. HD stands for High Density glass...which is a thing but the industry has not objectively defined what it means yet. I imagine they found a way to bring a high quality image to the line at a price point they wanted just like we did. Then more dense the glass is, the less refraction of light as it passes through the lens. You can absolutely tell the difference. There is a good scope from someone in pretty much every price point, if this one doesn't match your budget.
  5. I had a customer have one that was shooting "low"...It wasn't a 6:00 hold, but it wasn't any lower than my nighthawk or and glock or M&P. Swapping the front sight is your best option.
  6. Devils advocate, when you roll the gun, you have a more aggressive hand position on the fire control as far as recoil goes. As pertains to recoil your hand is at the 45 instead of the 90 to control the energy leaving. I have to believe at best it would only be a subtle difference.
  7. We get this all the time at Vortex, it sounds like the same issue here and I'm sure my colleagues at Trijicon and Leupold get this too (because our travel specs are pretty much the same). For pistol applications, the combination of height over bore (ESPECIALLY on saddle mounts) and the really close distances guys are trying to zero at will max or exceed the travel. This is because the bullet has to rise sometimes a inch or more to cross your line of sight, and even if you can zero at this distance sometimes you are at a such an early part of the ballistic arc that your zero may not work very well for other distances. We recommend zeroing at 25 yards keeping in mind that you are still going to be a touch low up close. To zero at 7, 10, or 15 you more than likely need to use a shim or a canted base. Remember in the world of carbines a conventional zero, point of impact is 1.5-2" low at close ranges due to height over bore. The same concept applies here.
  8. By the numbers I believe our window is smaller than the C-more, but I don't have much time behind a C-more.
  9. I care not. Having a one off is over rated and...frankly petty unless you have a specific reason.
  10. Aaron Cowan did a pretty comprehensive review of them.
  11. I have many talents, but more exclusive these days.
  12. To be fair, most "issues" with open guns are tinkering induced..
  13. I didn't either until it was pointed out to me. Game changer.
  14. Is anything about a JP necessary? Seriously. Its all necessary enhanced. None of it imperative, but every little bit helps depending upon what you are trying to accomplish. The break in stuff is the same old thing that has been handed generation to generation and nobody believes. In the words of the great John Noveske "Unless you get it hot enough to brand cattle, you ain't going to hurt that barrel." their stuff is no polished from the get go though...they don't need a break in IMO. I mounted an optic and went off to the races with mine.
  15. Aside from the obvious division difference. You aren't really at a disadvantage at that distance, you WILL have better luck if you sight in for a 6:00 hold on your red dot so you can hold low on all the targets. This way you can see the dot AND the target in relation to each other.
  16. My name is Adam and I'm in the Customer Care Department at Vortex. There is no limit to what we will do to repair or replace your optic to make sure you have a 100% specimen of the model you bought. However, we sell to the public via our dealers. In the interest of protecting our relationship with our dealers we are not able to process returns or upgrades. Dealers see that kind of thing as undercutting, so there is binding language in our dealer agreements that differs exchanges as upgrades to the dealers. OP- Please contact me directly amaxwell@vortexoptics.com or 608-821-0502
  17. IDK if it is self inflicted or related to the design...but I've never seen a CZ open shooter not struggle. Small sample size, but consistent.
  18. To the OP's question- I have over 10,000 rounds through my personal Atlas 9mm 2011 with all types of factory and hand loaded ammo (of varying quality). It ALL runs. If you don't mess with your mags and keep the oil in places it belongs, it will eat...and eat and eat and eat. We have approximately 10 Atlas guns in our local area, mostly 9's, mostly Titans, and they all have similar experiences. I love how everyone assumes he wants to shoot USPSA Limited and tried to talk him out of 9mm. I've sold literally dozens of new custom and STI 2011's...9mm out sells 40 4:1. Real talk, because 3-gun. Also, devil's advocate..if you are here, you already have made entry into the sport. If you stay with the sport long enough, you will end up with a custom gun (yes...yes you will). You will also loose 20-60% of the money you spend on every gun you buy between here and there (yes...yes you will)- fact. If you are in the sport, you like it, and are inclined to get a custom gun someday. I highly suggest you save the money and pull the trigger on one as soon as possible. All the major builders have good advocates who can help you through the process.

  20. It's back again for the 4th time. The annual JP Enterprises Jeff Kirkwold memorial 3 gun event. It started as but a humble local benefit match that evolved into a regional sensation. We have controlled the growth, and honed the format, before putting it out on the national stage. This is one of the few, if not the only, head to head shoot-off events outside of the 3-Gun Nation Pro Series. Day 1 is a bay style 5 stage 3-gun match recognizing Practical and Unlimited Divisions. The scores from Day 1 seed everyone into a bracket for a head to head shoot-off on Day 2. The main bracket is single elimination, but everyone who gets knocked out in the first round is seeded into a second chance bracket, so everyone will get to shoot at least twice in addition to side matches presented by HIPERFIRE and Vortex Optics. Check out the action from last year: https://youtu.be/54u_D6QSlkA Prizes are distributed as follows: 1 Place Main bracket, 1st place Second chance bracket, 2nd place Main bracket, 3rd place Main bracket, 4th place Main bracket. Then, it is random draw BY TIER OF FINISH. Proceeds are donated to the Task Force Dagger Foundation Registration will open Feb 1 at NOON. https://practiscore.com/4th-annual-jp-enterprises-…/register For more information: http://hawkeyeignite.com/jeff-kirkwold-memorial-3-gun/ For Updates follow: Hawkeye Ignite
  21. Since you've been changing springs, it begs the question did it behave this way with the stock spring assembly?
  22. I really don't understand the facination with 40 in SS. I've shot them both, the juice just isn't worth the squeeze IMO. 40 minor is fun, but then you might as well shoot 9. I shot 200gr LSWC forever, then transitioned to plated 200gr SWC...then to 200gr RN...no I ask myself why I just don't go to 230 like everyone else. All of which shoot better than any 40 major loads I've tried.
  23. I have the S&W Pro, especially in 9x19mm I think its the way to go. 9mm 1911's tend to run a little finiky, the S&W with the extenal extractor has run the best as far as I've seem. There is nothing that "needs" to be changed in the trigger. If the safety bothers you...its all in your head. I don't even notice its there.
  24. The thread started looking for a 1911, but for Tac Ops you are really talking about a 2011. My 3-Gun 2011 was built by Grundhauser Gun Works (http://grundhausergunworks.com/). He's not very publicly known, but has built national and world title winning guns. I know for a fact phone calls do get followed up on and he tries very hard to have guns ordered this time of year ready by March 1, but he is a one man shop. We are fast approaching the cut off time for that guarantee, but its not too late. I'm also taking delivery of a single stack 1911 (F3) from him very soon. I've seen, handled and shot many high end pistols. I put Grundhaiser guns up against anybody's in the world.
