  1. I'm curious what folks thoughts are on 2-gun (rifle/pistol) especially with the USCA match just held this past weekend. For the record I was not there, but have seen the videos starting to find their way to youtube. Personally I'm not a fan because I like shotgun and really only bought an AR to get into 3-gun. Without the whole package of all 3-guns, I probably would have just stuck with the pistol sports. I personally think it only appeals to people who aren't dedicated enough to learn the shotgun skill set. On the other hand our local club, MN 3-gun Group, does do one 2-gun a year that has been historically popular. It does draw some USPSA shooters who are scared of shotguns, but overall its pretty much the same 3gun crowd that turns out for it. What do you folks think? Is 2-gun going to grow legs, be an off-shoot/ non-mainstream sport like the tactical shotgun matches...or will it one day over shadow 3-gun?
  2. My understanding from a SHOT SHOW video interview of Keith @ DW is that all internals of DW pistols are the same. The differences in price are simply external features (like sights and grips) and finishes. A specialist is on my wish list...and I would say $1400 is an EXCELLENT deal on one.
  3. I have the Dawson Ice well on one of my single stack guns. After 1000 rounds no complaints, but its not really one of my go-to guns nor does it see much dry fire time.

    G35 to G34?

As with all aftermarket parts, you take your chances on maintaining reliability...but a close friend does run a 35 with a conversion barrel and its been 100%. Converted guns are not legal in SSP or Production because the barrels are thicker to compensate for the larger diameter hole in the slide (as you can see in the pic above)...that is a slick way to add weight which rule makers deemed unfair. 3gun, pretty much anything goes. If its legal for limited, its legal for TO/TL in 3gun 34's can't convert to 40 because the hole in the slide is too small to accommodate a 40 barrel
  5. Can anybody recommend a good pair of athletic elbow pads? One too many prone swan dives for this guy.
  6. I would say more often than not you will not be required to load more than 16 shells in a give stage That said, when I set up the jungle runs up here in MN, minimum round count is 30...at 40+ they make me pull targets out because its not conducive to good match flow...and that's if you don't drop any shells or miss...and you'll probably do both
  7. HHHHang on one second, We have one more shoot on November 16. True the 3 gun is done and this is a Handgun/Rifle shoot but we are still holding on. Its not too late, lets book some winter 3gun... year round I say
  8. I haven't encountered a match when I could not burn the birdshot. At our matches we do say it must be burned "over" a target so that the shot does hit the berm. As per the original question if it were a situation where burning wasn't an option and I wasn't willing to accept the penalty if I missed (which is a route I go many times) I would have a slug in my match saver. Rack with strong hand and hold open, hit the match saver with the weak hand. If you are too cool for a match saver I'd do it the same way but with whatever your source of ammo is. Yes, I practice this
  9. Sounds like someone needs a benelli... not really but seriously, you do.... All kidding aside, I'm curious on one of these defective guns, will they feed when the gun is dry fired? In a match that's how I load on a bolt-down empty chamber anyway. Does manipulation of the mechanism in a different way yeild the same reseults?
  10. I've had two done by them and love them. They were pretty much on schedule ... but I sent them in during the winter so I would for sure have them back in time for shooting season. All good gunsmiths are guilty of what I call craftsmanship syndrome. They are very good at their craft, but you need to leave them alone and let them work. If they are on the phone or emailing, they aren't working on projects. You just have to be patient. I'm currently trying very hard not to bug a gunsmith myself right now
  11. I'm in the same boat. Always been a 1911 shooter at heart but have been running glocks in 3gun a couple years now. I've even had glockworx trick out both my full size glocks...but I still crave the feel of a precision fit single action gun and at the end if the day while I shoot glocks well, I shoot 1911s better. I won a frame kit at a match and figured it was fate. Now I have to buy a bunch of mags again
  12. I've been a 1911 guy from the start, but picked up a glock 17 and then a 34 for 3gun the past couple seasons for the obvious advantages striker fired guns have in dump boxes (and its fun to be mean to them in ways that 3gun is to equipment). I like the glocks and shoot them well...but I still shoot a 1911 BETTER so I'm taking the plunge and having one built by Grundhauser Gun Works.
  13. Nordic is local to me, I have friends who work there, and they are a big sponsor of our yearly major shotgun match....so that's what I use. If I were to be unbiased and in the market again I would probably go RCI because I like the one piece concept.
  14. Most people I know have the best luck with LM chokes for slugs. Mod is the tightest I've gone with slugs.
  15. They treated me well when I had an issue. Asking for the manager leads me to believe you were less than pleasant to work with which rarely gets the response you were hoping for...in my estimation
  16. I've put quite a bit into some of my plastic guns. There are a lot of improvements that can be made, but at the end of the day they are still striker fired plastic guns. If you have 2011 on the brain, you wont be happy until you get one IMO
  17. Boom...well said. I had a Spartan 9, extractor wore out excessively soon. I traded it for a sw pro series 1911 which has been awesome thus far. Sti Trojan is also an excellent choice
  18. Ive been running across and hearing about super light shotshell loads off and on for a little while. I know Winchester AA has one and federal is coming out with another of these minimum dram target loads. Are any serious 3gunners using these at the big outlaw or pro series matches? I'm intrigued for the same reason we all load our pistol ammo as close to pf as we can, I have no problem with recoil- but would less make me faster? I'm a big believer in the art of the shotgun and effectively utilizing options in choke and shells... of course the flip side is do they have enough snort to reliabily cycle an auto shotgun. I tried a small hand full of the AA version in by M2 but I'm not sure how they would work in improvised positions or with a less than perfectly cleaned and lubed gun. So are they worth a try or did I just run out of things to look at in the big box gun store? Keeping in mind I'm the kind of guy who keeps super handicap / game loads on tap for applicable situations as well.
  19. I'm unimpressed with the vm. Its no more match ready that the benelli is IMO. Lighter recoiling is BS IMO they are all pretty freaking close if you technique is good...and if its not you need less time in the gun store and more on the range. I saw the 1301 for the first time last weekend and got a chance to shoot it. That will be a real contender if it doesn't sh*t the bed on reliability. If you want to know what it feeling like, shoot an ak47...minus the pistol grip that's what it feels and sounds like to me. I'm interested in the Browning too. I started with a gold, but with the shell latch traveling on the bolt carrier, extended mag tubes mess with the re oil spring rates. Vm maybe had a good showing at rockcastle, but I'm pretty sure benelli dominated both Nordic matches and pan am...correct me if I'm wrong
  20. I've woundered how a sbe or SBEII would turn out if if one of the race-smiths did a full blow race package and lighted the bolt....massive loading and ejection ports...hmm
  21. Remington 870 youth 20 was my favorite when i was that age. Shot the Beretta (390?) didn't like it. I never really bought into the single shot school of thought. I'be always been a larger frame guy so I stepped up to a full size gun pretty quick. I've been shooting the same Browning Gold since I was 13 (that was over 10yrs ago)...until I got into 3 gun and became a benelli guy.
  22. At the end of the day I'm still left handed ... benelli all the way. My backup/practice gun is an m1lh with a tube and a bolt handle period. I do all my reloading practice with it and have never been thumbed despite a stock lifter. My match gun is still a full blown accurate iron m2lh though. For my right handed friends though, that 1301 is pretty impressive. I just shot one last weekend, we'll see if they hold up but Beretta might have a live one. Best bang for the Buck is still a used m1 IMO

  24. Everyone's definition of affordable is different. ALL SUB $500 1911s ARE JUNK (oh boy a bunch of people just got butt hurt). If you can't spend roughly $800+ (depending what style of 1911 we are talking) don't bother. 1911s need a certain level of craftsmanship to be done right.
