  1. After having nothing but trouble with my MK3, I traded it in on the new MK4 Target, installed the Volquartzen tune up kit and been shooting SC ever since without an issue. Much cheaper way to go. Just saying.
  2. Mark built me a 627 for steel shooting. Custom 5" barrel, complete action job, the works. Never had an issue with it and still using it at matches. Mark was a great guy to deal with and got the job done in reasonable time. He had just relocated into his new shop and kept me up to date on the progress through the build.
  3. I used 4.6gr of Titegroup with the 135's and 5.6gr of Power Pistol with the 147's
  4. That is what Powers was referring to, however, I believe that increasing the charge defeats the purpose of being able to shoot a 130 to 135 PF round in competition. Any thoughts on alternatives with the rounds I mentioned? The 147 gr. bullets are real accurate out of both guns with the .355 barrel. Please advise.
  5. I had Power Custom in MO. convert a NIB 929 over to a 9 MM/38 Super dual cylinder conversion. He cut the front compensator mount off and re-contoured the barrel and lug, and performed a complete double action only job, Every part in the gun was replaced with a tool steel replacement item and the cylinder stop and hand were refit using over sized parts. After about 200 rounds of 38 Super, same problem developed as it did with my other 929 9 MM. Firing pin bushing erosion or as I am being told, flame cutting due to the Federal primers. It happened with 124gr. Berry HBFP, 147gr. Montana Gold FP and 135gr. Bayou using Titegroup, Power Pistol and 231. The common items in each load were the following: Starline Brass and Federal Primers (of which I have been told by Ron Power) that he believes is the culprit. He believes that they are too soft for my application and suggested that I switch to CCI or Winchester. I am making the switch and will be feeding him the results soon. I will post it here also.
  6. Coaching to me is just that, coaching. It is done at the instructional level to those who don't know and are in the learning process. This, in my opinion is where it should be allowed, and in any discipline. ICORE; USPSA; IPSC; etc.
  7. I appreciate your input. I am waiting for my 929 to come back from Pinnacle in PA and will begin the testing process. I'm thinking that if the problem persists, i will have the gun converted to 38 Super. Time will tell.
  8. I have heard recently that the new S&W 929 PC has been having lockup issues. It appears that during extended use such as a competition the cases are backing out and causing the cylinder to jam. Has anyone out there experienced this problem? I have been shooting a 627 in 38 Special and also in 38 Super and never experienced any issues of any kind. Please advise.
  9. Congrats on the new 38 Super revolver. I have the same gun along with a 627-8 in 38/357 and a Model 929 Miculek 9mm revolver. I get clips for all 3 guns from Revolver Supply in New Mexico. He has what you need to get going and he is a revolver shooter too. Good luck and stay safe. E.
  10. Goldylocks, You may want to look into the Ruger SR 22. It is an AR platform with the 10-22 receiver/barrel set up. I bought one and sent it off to CT-Precision in Connecticut for the "full trigger treatment" for $189.00. They reworked the chamber and the complete trigger and jeweled the bolt. Best money I have ever spent with a gunsmith. It out performs all of the 22's out there. I have a Burris red dot with a quick release mount and it came with an adjustable stock which is ideal if you both plan on shooting it. It also is great practice if you shoot an AR in any type of competition. It came with the threaded barrel and a rail on the receiver for any type of sight mount, and it can be reconfigured like most AR's on the market today. Check one out. It is the best of both worlds.
  11. Lets not forget the revolver guys. I shoot a S&W 617 4" with a C-More RTS2 in SC matches. I did the trigger job per the JM video including cutting the hammer spur and at 8lbs it shoots any/all ammo without misfires. Manny
  12. Try this approach. Berry's 185gr. HBRN over 4.6gr Clays @ 1.260 o-a-l. This recipe results in an average of 900fps out of my S&W 625 5" Revolver, which is a 165+/-PF.
  13. I believe the best way to get the Ti cylinder for your 625 is to find a 325 online, swap the cylinder and resell the 325. I was able to find one for $600. I had a new stainless cylinder installed for $125, and resold the gun for $575. S&W has 627 Ti cylinders in stock and when that supply is gone, they are not going to restock that item either. If you shoot an 8 shot, I would order one soon. E.
