  1. This makes no sense to me. If you reacted to a beep from the next bay or Atlantis or wherever and ran off shooting, but I didn't activate the timer, am gonna call time out on your fun and restart. If you reacted to "the next bay" and got some infatesimally small start on when I released the button... ok good on ya. I'll never forget the times where experienced RO's let me fall on my face trying to anticipate the timer. This topic is irrelevant to a good RO. Hang out with one at your next match!
  2. i use MBX, as well as STi tubes with grams guts and Taran base pads. They both work great. I enjoy not having to screw with spacers in the MBX mags, and I consistently get one additional RELIABLE round with the MBX. That combined with the pink base pads from MBX makes them a winner for me.
  3. An open back up gun is nice to have but not that big of a deal. I used to feel like it was a compulsory sort of insurance having a back up for traveling to matches. You know $200 match fee, $100/night for hotel etc, going to a level 3 became a damm near $1k event. The thought of having my blaster crap the bed and paying $50/ hour to paste targets was a no go. But over the years those fears never materialized. Sure it's a nice peace of mind, yes I do bring a back up, but I wouldn't loose sleep over it.
  4. if capacity is a big deal, the mbx should get you one more round reliably than the sti tube. I was unaware that sti made changes to their tubes. I see above a comment about witness holes. Did they redesign anything?
  5. Shooters connection. Local hardware may may have proper size but the quality will be dubious. If if it was for a glock, sure zip ties and bent nails. But for a 2011?
  6. Oh sh!tballs, i know you were kidding, I hope everyone else does too? Theres a lot of good dudes here ( and some wankers ) who really want to keep this thing going. It will work out, or not.
  7. Bitchin idea! How about 50 cents per? i owe 5 bucks, how about you??
  8. Asking for donations is a delicate balance. Those who have had the privilege of being involved in the management of a benovolent organization will tell you that setting clear goals based on a transparent budget is the key to success. Absence of fact and objective is the breeding ground for malfecence, I wish our host well, and hope that everything works out
  9. Many previous debates on this. Used them in limited and open. Began using them more as an indexing tool to ensure consistent grip. Saw criticism from guys on here who said they are a crutch, my fundamentals must suck, must have a sissy weak grip etc. despite that rubbish I found it a useful tool to improve my shooting. I did find that using the rest to actively counter recoil was counterproductive. It changed how the gun tracked in recoil in an unpredictable way. The result being that shooting at speed became more erratic with paired shots. Good grip mechanics and strength is paramount. To this end I think the thumbrest is something reserved for the developed shooter looking for fine tuning his game versus a first year competitor who should be more focused on execution than results. Snow sucks (just felt like saying that today)
  10. It sounds like you are trying to set up grams to lock back? obviously locking back with one left in the mag has gotta be fixed and the article cited above will square you away, but using a grams to get full capacity AND lock back, never tried that one. Why do you want lock back (assuming this is a competition gun)?
  11. Steve, good questions, searching each one will get you comprehensive answers, but to start with... changing the blue grip on the GM is about $100 no big deal. Reloading is pretty much compulsory for playing in open. Factory Ammo won't work, there are a couple outfits who you can get appropriate Ammo from but the $$ is gonna suck. Not to mention, open is so much about tuning loads and bullets to get top performance. There may be a couple guys here who say you go do it without reloading, but fact is I don't know any open shooters who run with off the shelf Ammo. Barrel length is of course personal preference but the vast consensus is a 5 inch gun. As far as buying a used or demo gun, it depends, but saving a few bucks to get a gun that runs is a winner. ( you just gotta trust the seller if he says it runs) cmore mount, depends on who built the gun. A standard upright mount can work just fine if the builder set the gun up to run one. 90 degree mounts eliminate ejection clearance issues but the look is off putting to some. The standard ol c-more has the biggest window but the new smaller dots seem to be catching up. I think buying a gun that runs and leaving its sighting system as is will serve you best. dot size again is preference. I like 6-8 these are pretty brief answers, so search away amigo!
  12. And there you go. nearly 18k posts? damm dude, last time I was on here you were at 10k
  13. Sounds like unlocking too soon? too light a recoil spring or a link issue?
  14. Amen. It all boils down to the rule book. I wish I had a hard copy, I'm not the type to search online versions so I guess my take on it means sh!t come to think of it, how does a guy get a bound copy of the rules anyways?
  15. Chris has been around for a while, he knows what a grease ring is. Question is, I'm guessing more related to what counts as a scoring hit on a target. You put a hole in a scoring area of a target with something that has a radius of a bullet, even partially, I say it scores dependent on what you shot through. If a match says that props and barrels are hard cover then you gotta look at the hit on the prop. ( and the props/barrels gotta be taped for each shooter) if it is not a full radius hit on the prop, then you get the points for the identifiable radius hit on the target. Wheres moto? He would set this straight damm quick!
  16. generating revenue from classified listings makes more sense than from general forum use.
  17. Jack, you deserve praise for taking initiative on this. Although well intentioned, not a good idea. These forums are only interesting when there is fresh discussion and that is primarily driven by new membership. If you charge $ for participation few new people will sign up. Even if the first 50 posts are "free" nobody cares, it's a paid site, and people never get interested. The only guys who will pony up the $ are the salty dogs with 1000's of posts. And yeah if this site had ads on it a lot of guys will quit visiting. So Brians approach is pretty smart. If you wanna help out, carry his message, not your own. or not, have a good one.
  18. I think the yoda quote goes " do or do not, there is no try" Yup, a quote from good old Frank Oz
  19. Great topic. In pursuit of not sucking at shooting, have read. Enos Stoeger (all) Seeklander Anderson (all) Bassham (with winning in mind) Kirsch Musashi (five rings) Anthony Camera (shooting the stick bow) Jack Nicklaus (golf my way) Tim Gallwey (inner game of tennis) Robert Coram (Boyd) Laurance Gonzales (deep survival) The books by the modern shooting greats above are obvious compulsory reads, the crossover books by Bassham, Gallwey, and Nicklaus transcended sports and made The mental awareness thing really click. the last two are a part of my professional life's reading list and may be tangential to shooting sports but I believe will resonate.... Gonzales book made me really question and examine my own aptitude. the book on Boyd, well, it's just a damm fine guide to kicking ass.
  20. Good work figuring it out! Mag tuning is black magic stuff sometimes. Just when you think you know what you are doing..... you don't. I had an MBX tube that wouldn't drop, tried all sorts of stuff, because I think I'm smart, and forum group think. Turns out that when I had tried to squeeze the mag to address what I thought was too large of a front to back dimension I actually took it out of square. Very slightly but just enough to make it totally phukked up. Henceforth, the advice of "call up the manufacturer first" became my SOP.
  21. Answered yer own question amigo. The cmore is where it's at.
  22. Hating on the new format will probably get the same results as hating on WO or PCC. Nada.
