  1. Dang...even the Kindle edition is $18...I guess I know what I'm scrounging for on the book tables at gun shows. Now, am I stupid, or is this the whole trigger group, with the flexitab lifter, for only $.04 more than the conversion? Or would that not work with the old bolt and carrier?
  2. Where do you get one? Thanks Chances are your gun already has one. Look at the carrier. If there is a U shaped cut in it it's current. Remington has been using that feature for decades so unless you have a really old gun you should be okay. If your carrier is uncut call Brownells and order the Flex Tab conversion kit for It. The pic below is my two 870s. The one on the left is a 2003 (my house gun) and the one on the left a 1963. How difficult is the conversion kit to install?
  3. For Americans not familiar with the IPSC rifle divisions, here's a link: IPSC Rifle Division List I'm curious as to what rifle types are found in the manual action divisions, especially open. I have visions of a Winchester 1895 modified to accept AR mags...
  4. Can I bring my Venezuelan FN-49 in 7mm Mauser (also available in Egyptian 8mm Mauser flavor) or my Swedish AG-42B Ljungman in 6.5 Swede? Or is anything short of .30 cal too puny? (And you left out the SVT-40 and G.43, too) Otherwise, you just described the WWII division at LaRue this year.
  5. Ha, that is what I was thinking. Transitions are out of the question. Yeah, but you'd own the long range targets. Are tripods with T&Es allowed in open division?
  6. OK, now I'm a bit confused...are we talking about putting 1x optics in their own division (Tac-Limited), or including them in Tac-Irons? And are you adding shooters (especially new ones), or simply causing shooters to move from one division to another? Another variable that may effect things - prevalence of longer range (>300m) targets. 1x optics are awesome for close range hoser targets, but are less f an advantage as the range extends. Beyond 300m, I think I'd rather have a good set of irons that lets me adjust my elevation than an Aimpoint or EOTech. (And I do love my EOTech for blasting close range targets quickly.)
  7. Not a representative sample, but at our last local match, out of 12 shooters, there was 1 Tac-Iron, 2 Heavy-Iron, and the rest Tac-Optics. (Our local club has separate divisions for Heavy-Optic and Heavy-Iron). I don't have any other results sheets to look at to see if anyone shot Tac-Limited at any previous matches. As someone who's just getting started and learning the sport, I would say that the existence of a division like T-L, where a new shooter would feel less 'outgunned' equipment wise, would encourage more new shooters to play.
  8. Legally, shouldn't they be sold through the CMP? Why would Remington be selling them?
  9. That's not a dragon. You just need to check the gas valve on your stove.
  10. At $20, it would end up costing $80 to run the match, more if you want to carry extra rounds (lets see...4*8=32 plus 8 in the gun = 40 rounds). A bit steep for me, for one match, but I might bite. A double or triple holder might work. Shotgun for me is a 590, which I need to plug. However, for cool factor, I can attach a bayonet. Good question...how many en blocs does this carrier hold for $20? $20 for each clip would be a bit steep (says a guy who's using an old SAW pouch to hold his.) As for shotgun...I'm using an old (1963 vintage) 870 Wingmaster. I actually had to put a +2 extension on it to get it to 6 rounds.
  11. So, am I the only one who wishes that Top Shot would actually do stages using all of the weapons the competitors are shown holding during the opening credits? In past seasons they've had such things as an RPG, a PKM, and a Mauser C96. Just in the competitor bio photos this season they've got a Gewehr 43, a Stg 44, and a(nother) Mauser C96. That, and an all-John Moses Browning design 3-Gun event.
  12. And here I thought it was because you loved your single stack .45 so much and didn't want to play with the plastic fantastic 9mms and their bottomless magazines.
  13. I pinged Apex on FB...it sounds like they've got a 15" tube in the works, hoping to have it ready for SHOT. Schwing!
  14. So is there a requirement to raise the rifle over your head and say "By the power of .30 cal?"
  15. Is there any difference, or just different names for the same thing?
  16. Ahhhh, the ping. Perhaps it was a tactical disadvantage in some cases.....but so distinctive. [Python] "We've got the machine that goes 'PING!'" [/Python] DMG...I envy your free time and ammo budget...would chaining an 8 year old to a Dillon loader violate child labor laws?
  17. Has Apex added a 15" to their line up? The longest I can see on their website is 12.5" rifle length. I'm going to be quite excited if they have.
  18. Well, the theme is War in the Pacific...which eliminates the Germans and Russians (yes, I'm aware that the Russians fought the Japanese in Manchuria and the Kuriles for what, a week or two?). And I'm pretty sure they're only playing the Allied side, which would eliminate Japan. (As would the need for reliable pistols) The SMLE and No.4 Mk.I are already on the approved list...although I don't think any revolvers are (Webley or US M1917). Now, at least some Commonwealth countries used the Browning HP (which the Brits to this day just call "the Browning"), but that's not on the approved list. I guess the MD figures a high-cap 9 would be too big an advantage in that division. Now, I'd love to see an Axis & Allies themed 2 gun match (but you might want to let the Russians use their Tokarev automatics). I shot a WWII/Battle of the Bulge themed High Power match up in Lancaster, PA a few years back (appropriately, it was about 12 degrees out with plenty of snow) that was a lot of fun.
  19. How long is that mag tube? 2.75" x 12 = 33", plus some space for the spring and follower...35, 36 inches?
  20. Pretty sure it's .22. .17 is pretty much an American varmint-zapping caliber. I shot rifles competitively in college (Olympic style smallbore) and after 10 years in the Infantry, I love rifles. Outside of competition, though, I shoot pistols more, because it's cheaper, and ranges are more accessible.
  21. I'm not sure about the inner diameter of the scope involved or the mounts, but would two QD low-rise Aimpoint mounts do the trick? The most recent SGN had a picture of an M1A with the scope clearly mounted on two LaRue QD Aimpoint mounts.
  22. I DON'T want to tinker with Production at all. In fact I'd be more in favor of a "Production" division in 3 Gun... Hmmm...like maybe call it 'Mil. Std' Division...all rifles must use (US) military actions (i.e., AR10/15 or M14) with the only allowed accessories being items that have an NSN? (This would rule out most, if not all of the 1-4x scopes, but allow Aimpoint M68s, EOTechs (I think) and ACOGs, and limit mags to 20 and 30 rounders, PMAGs included). And I think 30 rounders will remain the standard, even when MagPul and any others come out with bigger ones, as long as they remain the DoD standard. (20 rounders are standard for jump-rigged rifles for airborne ops, but that's the only place.) Well, there are some other options for Texas Multigun WW2 rifles. Semi-auto BAR which is 20 rounds or M1919 which is as many as you want to link. Technically, the bolt-action Enfields are legal, and those hold 10. Meh...'rifles' costing well north of $2k and weighing over 25 lbs are their own penalty. Now, I'm not familiar with the semi-auto versions, but as originally built, the M1919 series used 250 round, non-disintegrating belts (cloth or metal). Forget not reloading on a stage, one of those could go the entire MATCH without reloading.
  23. Besides the novelty value, this is a reason why I love the idea of the WWII Division at TX Multigun/LaRue...everyone's rifle only holds 8 rounds. No monopods, and lots of reloads. In all seriousness, wouldn't any equipment restrictions, whether for magazines or anything else, be up to the MD? My local match doesn't allow the Surefire quad stacks, but I'm not sure about the extensions on the Pmags. Personally, since most of my experience is with High Power and Olympic-style small bore, I find bans on the use of slings annoying, but it is what it is. Let the MD decide what s/he wants to allow, and go from there. If enough people don't like it, change it for the next go-round.
  24. Anyone know any vendors that sell these in quantities smaller than a case?
  25. You don't have to feel old unless you take your Garand as your persuader. I'd love to see someone meld the tritium/fiber-optic goodness of an ACOG with the Elcan SpectreDR at around the price point you mentioned. (For 3g, it wouldn't need to near as beefy as either the ACOG or the Elcan, though)
