  1. Probably a dumb question, but what's the trick to getting the front sight bead out? Or do I just need pliers with a better grip?
  2. I've got a +4 on mine, sticks out about 1.5" or so. I can get 8 rounds of 2.75" in the tube, so I plan on getting an XXL cap as soon as Nordic has them back in stock. I've queried Nordic about bolt handles. They said they've got the order in to manufacturing (along with the XXL caps), just a matter of when they get around to making them. There's another guy at my local club who runs one, and he's got a different handle, from someone who ran off a batch of his own. Still trying to track that guy down to see if he has any left. I haven't had the loading port opened or the lifter welded. Then again, I don't shoot well enough for that to matter all that much.
  3. I cut mine at around 14", maybe a it more. But that's partly because I'm waiting for Nordic to get more XXL caps in.
  4. Well, the Benning School for Boys has access to Army engineer support, who can dig trenches and tag it as training in their budget. And privates from Sand Hill to fill sandbags.
  5. And here I was thinking about running a 1076...I figure the mighty 10mm would knock down any steel with its earth shattering Ka-Boom alone.
  6. Somebody at the Division Museum can probably point you in the right direction. https://82ndairbornedivisionmuseum.com/cube/contact-us/info_2.html?ccUser= And your last condition is quite similar to the rules used for WWII Division at this year's TX Muligun match (they also applied to Heavy Division, but I was in WWII) - .30-06 and .45 only required 1 hit on the target, while .223 and 9mm/.40 required two. (However, if you missed with a WWII/Heavy gun, it counted as TWO misses.)
  7. My local club uses the "one pellet hit" rule as well. A pellet 'hole' is usually a small chunk missing, at minimum - it's not like it's a paper target. If there's a doubt, the RO will usually call it.
  8. Other potential sources if you want to get the layout absolutely correct might be the post historian at Ft Bragg, NC (home of the 82nd) or the military attache at the US embassy in Paris (when I was stationed in Germany in the late 90s, we did a staff ride through the Meuse-Argonne, including the ground where it's thought York's action happened, guided by the attache) Also, have you tried locating the movie, which starred Gary Cooper? (Hard to go wrong with Gary Cooper) Minor historical inaccuracy note - in the movie, they showed York using an M1903, when in reality, he used an M1917. And don't forget 7 round pistol mags if you're going for historical accuracy!
  9. Another way to get heart rates up is make them carry something heavy from table to table - ammo cans filled with sand, full water cans, dragging a skedco with something heavy on it. Heck, make 'em high/low crawl. That was an EIB task last I checked. (And low crawl is an extreme PITA if they're wearing chest rigs.) Can you get hold of any practice grenades and fuzes? That'd allow you to go 3-gun Plus...and another EIB task.
  10. Only 20-25 rounds? We had a shotgun only stage a couple months ago that was in excess of 55 rounds, and included bird, buck, and slug. Definitely in excess of what most shotgun designers envision.
  11. Mine had no issues. Didn't even need any dremel work. Now you're making me nervous.
  12. Our local match has a lot of targets at distance (I think the MD is allergic to cardboard). So yeah, there's only 18-20 targets, all steel...but the close ones are at 200-250, several in the 300ish area, and one out at 500 just for gits and shiggles. When you're shootting stages like that, 'round count' can be a bit misleading. One time I felt like I could adjust mortar rounds faster.
  13. I won't know exactly where I'm going til after The Feast Day of the Dead Turkeys...could be CO, could by KY or even *shudder* DC...
  14. I put mine together (or most of the way together) last night. I couldn't find any XXL caps or bolt handles. But it will work without those. I'm wondering if they made a slight change, because I didn't need to dremel anything. I got the tube extension on, loaded up some dummy shells, and they cycled just fine. Hopefully I'll be able to test fire it this weekend. My clinger pic (can't be bitter - I got a new gun!)
  15. I would love to shoot this match...especially if my next duty station is Peterson AFB (CO Springs)! Although, since I'll be doing the actual move the first half of June, I think I'll have to wait til 2014.
  16. Funny...Firefox on a PC seems to think *everything* is new. Which is the opposite kind of annoying. EDIT: Nevermind, seems to be fine now. Was just doing that after the reboot.
  17. I posted last week on their section of the vendor forum. No answer so far. I picked up my 712U last night. Now I just need to get this @$^$%&@ term paper done so I can hang the NC parts on it.
  18. Considering that, for me at least, hitting a 5" plate at 40 yards is a stiff challenge, even if you give me the best target pistol every made by Anschutz...
  19. Does it change the equation any that I don't handload?
  20. I'm currently using a Kimber 1911 for 3-gun (because that's what I had when I started). So I'm looking for something in a 9mm to upgrade - reduce ammo cost and number of mag changes. Preferably not a Glock, because the grip angle drives me crazy. I couldn't find much of anything on here about the Julie Golob model. Other than the fact that it's only available with a 4.25" barrel, how does it stack up against the standard M&P Pro?
  21. On a separate note; you could probably compare the M&P with Dr. Pepper but it's still a long way from reaching "Pepsi" status. The usage stats from this year's IDPA Nats are out - Glocks were only about 1.5% above S&W. Both just below a third of the field. I'd say the Pepsi is here. (Now, I'm looking hard at RC - the CZ SP-01 Shadow. )
  22. Once shot skeet with a flint lock. That was an eye opening experience. Tar Video I shot at Antietam this summer
  23. Ever fired a black powder firearm?
  24. I have a Miculek brake, and I just shot the Walking Dead match here in TX. Muzzle flash wasn't an issue. The one thing that did surprise me was smoke wafting in front of the barrel getting lit up by my light sometimes making it difficult to see the target. That may be an ammo (Hornady Steel Match) issue, though.
  25. I tried to shoot one with my camera phone. About all you could see was the light on the rifle barrel, and muzzle flash.
