  1. Of course, the ability to use some of the long range targets depends on whether or not that area is under water. Given the rain we've gotten over the last week or so, Fred might actually be forced to used the bays. Of course, he could run another 50+ round shotgun stage in the center bay again. It's on high ground. As far as your Racemaster holster, there's nothing in the rules that strictly forbid it. The CCC rules read thus: "g. Handgun holster must be capable of retaining the handgun during the vigorous movement that may be required or otherwise encountered during the course of fire. It must allow the competitor to safely draw and re-holster the handgun without causing the muzzle to point in an unsafe direction at any time. It must completely cover and protect the handgun’s trigger guard. The competitor shall use the same handgun holster for the duration of the match." The key is "capable of retaining the handgun during the vigorous movement," since the pistol won't always be the first gun you use. Unless you're running a Open pistol with a red dot, I'd recommend a holster that will retain your pistol better.
  2. I wasn't arguing the point, just pointing out that the WWII division was tons of fun. Heck, there's a guy at our local match whose times with irons smoke mine with optics. And our MD is a long distance fiend - the area he calls "Hoser's Swamp", which has the closest rifle targets you generally see as his matches, starts at 150 yards. But I'm not out there to win prizes, just to shoot better than I did last match.
  3. Heck, I loved what's probably the ultimate spec division seen in recent years - World War II Division at last year's LaRue. Everyone in the division had an M1 Garand (PING!) with all the shooters I talked to running the same ammo (Greek surplus), a 12ga pump with a 6 round tube, and a 1911 with 8 round mags. That said, tinkering around with new stuff in Tac-Optics is fun too. And without that, you wouldn't have the element of show-and-tell and your local match, either. You could take the skill contest to the extreme, and make all the shooters shoot the same actual guns, and with no chance to observe the other shooters. Be one heck of a time suck, though.
  4. I found a place that was willing and able to do the color mix. Coleburn Armory. Looks right purty.
  5. What, you don't want to go retro with a 3-prong?
  6. If it's stupid, but it works - it isn't stupid. Learned that one from an old Green Beret long ago.
  7. +1 Heck, I'd probably be in for a 1.5" section of rebar as a handle.
  8. I'd be in for one of those handles as well.
  9. MakeReady looks like they have some in stock. They got a thing for bolt handles, but those show out of stock.
  10. Well, I've run my M1 Garand, and not just for WWII Division at LaRue.. The feeling of hearing the RO call 'Hit!' on the 500 yard target at the same time you hear the PING!....
  11. The quad rail...because I built the rifle years ago, when such things were trendy, before I got into 3-gun. It doesn't bug me enough to spend the money to get a new tube (the rails are free floated). I was just wondering about the VFG since I've got a couple laying around (Army surplus ) and I had one on my M4 in Afghanistan.
  12. Pretty much every rule set I've seen prohibits reconfiguring your guns during a match (with the exception of choke tubes.) My question is, if I have a VFG on a rifle with a quad rail, can I move the VFG around on the rails from stage to stage? Say, have it in the normal postion (6 o'clock) for a run-n-gun stage, but then move it to one side on another stage to brace against a post, or just get it out of the way to use a rest? Or would this be one of those RO/MD judgement calls?
  13. I've got a +4 on my 20", which gives 8+1 capacity. I've been trying to find a +1.5" tube ctap since I got the gun, but Nordic has been out of stock. I may stop worrying at about it, since, if I'm reading the rules right for the club I'll be shooting at in VA after I move, they allow max 9 in the gun at any time for TO.
  14. Is this going to take the place of the normal 4th weekend match? I had a church thing yesterday that I'd already committed to.
  15. My brother in law is a welder...maybe I'll get a spare bolt handle from CZ and a NC Mossy or Benelli handle and ask him to combine the two...I've been waiting for Nordic to get more CZ handles in stock since October or so.
  16. Huh...the video shows up just fine in my browser. (Firefox 19, Win7) Seach youtube for "Experimental CZ 10mm" by user "theheineken" Basically, a 10mm CZ-97B, although it looks like the slide has borrowed a good bit from the SP-01. And I just realized that, with headphones on, I can hear the trigger reset in that video.
  17. I don't have mine available at the moment to play with. To the best of my recollection: -ensure weapon is empty/clear. -cycle the bolt -pull the trigger, let the hammer drop -pull the bolt to the rear, it should lock
  18. I've been waiting on them to get +4s for my 870 since October. Along with the +1.5" extension cap and a charging handle for the 712.
  19. The club I shoot at has been using small steel discs (about 2.5-3") with a flat piece welded to the bottom, along with clays (situation dependent - don't use the metal ones on the jungle run) for a while. They have stakes with a small platform on top that the targets sit on. But a solid hit and they can really fly. I've seen them go 20', and once the target went over the berm (shooter accidentally loaded one of his high-velocity #6 shells he had meant to use on the spinner.) Overall, the reset is pretty quick if you keep to using them in a flat open area. Just pick them up, put them back on the stand, every 4th shooter or so spray some more paint on them.
  20. I never tried loading mine before I put the extension tube on it...but with the Nordic +4 tube I can load 8+1. Adding an XXL cap (when I can find one...been waiting for Nordic to make another batch since October..) should take it up to 9+1.
  21. Good to hear it's running good Gerrit. I wish Nordic would add one of those "Email me when this item is in stock" things on their webpage. Between hunting for parts and ammo, got too many sites to check...
