  1. Well I'm in Westfield just 20 miles from Mattoon. If you need something....info, etc. give me a hollar. Terre Huate and Loami are great places to shoot. PASA is 180 miles for me and at least 20 less for you. I don't get to Havana anymore and I've never shot a club match at Chili.
  2. I have been letting my 2 1/2 year old help me load rifle ammo. He helps with it all. Brass prep to loaded rounds. He thinks it great to help daddy. I have the auto feeds on the handgun presses....those aren't as much fun to watch.
  3. If you ttry different brass you might come up with less pressure than another brand. I run RE-15 in my 308 with 26in tube. Remington brass gives me the least pressure signs. I have run the velocity up to 2775 and it showed a lot of pressure. You mi8ght get to 2600 with the right podwer/brass comb. Trap said it best, go with a lighter bullet.
  4. I have 2 that mean the world to me my Browning Buckmark I got in '89 and my Jim Garthwaite 45 I won at the SSC a few years ago. Dad wasn't into guns at all. He really frowned when I started reading the gun rags and didn't approve at all when I started going to matches. Deb has one that she got from our super great friend, Rich, when he died. A blued PPK/S 380.
  5. Ok. Lyman 47th edition shows Unique, Blue Dot, SR4756, HS-6 and 231 as acceptible powders for 225 gr LEAD 45's and 215gr LEAD 44's. If he wants to load the 44's to 44 Special velocities Unique and Blue Dot would be the way to go. He can load 1270 rounds per pound of Unique using the base load for a 45 @ 5.5 with 225 lead. He can load about HALF that many using the Unique in the 44 with 10 grs as the base load for 215 gr LEAD. The Special base load is 6 grs of Unique with 215 gr LEAD. We could use a lot more info as too how much he's gonna shoot and of what caliber and what kinda bullet and what velocity. I still recommend a loading manual and READ the thing. They do give the small manuals away at matches in the shooter packets (trust me I've seen'm) and most gunshops that sell powder if you ask. Trying to use the wrong powder to make ammo is BAD idea. Spend the extra $25 and get a pound of the right powder. Give your friend safe advise.
  6. Invest is a reloading manual. There is lotsa great info found in them. Including burn rate charts and articles that cover many different parts of reloading. To the question......I doubt you will find one powder that will load both calibers to a satifactory level. The 45 works very well with the faster burn rate powders. The 44 works better with slower burn rate powders. I would recommend picking a powder for each caliber. For 45 Clays, 231, WST, 700X are all great. For 44 try something in the burn rate of H110.
  7. I am have'n Lasik PRK done at the Lasik Vision Institute in Carmel IN. on feb 27th. The price I am quoted is @ $3500 for both eyes. I don't know if thats a great price...... it was recomended to go there. Haven't checked anywhere else.
  8. You need to chrono the ammo too, or the tests will not be complete. A chrono will tell you a lot of things about your loaded ammo. ES, SD, average velocity, etc. You can play with over all length too. Finding an accurate load for your rifle will be a long and frustrating, but fruitful experiance.
  9. You will need to have the GO/NO-GO gauges to go with that too. You may have better luck sending it to someone and let them do the chambering.
  10. I just upgaded my rings to Burris XTR rings on my rem 700 and this is the method I used. It worked better than using the levels.
  11. Jim, TNT is the name of the outfit in Quincy that had golf carts to rent. A search of past Nationals threads might bring up a ph#.
  12. Corey, the "I don't have enough stuff" excuse is a lame one. Bring your gear and ask around to borrow the few things you need to shoot. I always carry a extra mag pouch or two in the bag (for the gun I'm running) and we all have extra mags laying around in the range bag. And I have loaned them out many times. If you need more than that you may want to ask if anyone can bring what you might need to shoot.
  13. Corey pack your pistol and gear. No reason to show up and NOT shoot. You will have a blast. You have to start somewhere for your "first" match.
  14. I like the 2010 Logo. Are you having it put on gray/dark gray shirts??
  15. Thats a long way from your heart. I think you will live to do dumb things again very soon. Keep it clean and get back in shape for drinking.
  16. Plus right now at the first of the year it's the only USPSA Nationals that you know where and when it will be held! That's low Russ...............real low........but so true.
  17. Hey thanks for the reminder. I just noticed that I don't have one in the bathroom. I have one of those wives too. She loves guns too.
  18. Prayers sent to his family. Been a long time since I seen 'Ol Lloyd. Hope he made it to a better place.
  19. Send it back to STI. The early ones did break. I have broke several, they replaced every one. I have the newer generation RM's in all my 9 and 40 guns and have many thousand rounds on them with no problems at all. I do carry backup RM's but have not needed them since upgrading to the new gens. YMMV
  20. I am so happy for you. Now whats the date for the wedding????? I can get you a preacher at the Single Stack Classic and plenty of witnesses.
  21. Thats the same Jim I know. An A++++++++++++++++++ dude.
  22. You're welcome to crash here if you need. I'm just inside the IL boarder. PM me for ph# and directions if you want. I'm in the country and NOBODY comes around my house day or night without me and the 2 dogs knowing about them.
  23. You are good to go in IL. Just stay out'a Chicago (Cook County). I'm gonna say you will not have any trouble in of the states listed. We do it all the time going to matches and staying over night. Make sure to park your trailer in a spot with cameras or where it will be less likely to get broke into. If you need to stop in IL I live 10 miles off I-70 at the Casey exit (129).
  24. Great service with Glock. I'm still trying to break my first one.=)
