  1. Read this thread from the Snipers Hide. http://www.snipershide.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=1167022&nt=13&page=1 They are several bedding threads on the hide. This is just the first one I found. I use Pasco 0.10 pipe wrap tape on the barrel to keep it centered in the stock and set the correct action height. I use playdoh as a bridge to keep the devcon where I want it and away from where I don't. I also use the pipe tape on the 1/4x28 by 3 inch long action bolts to center them in the pillars. I use one layer of masking tape on the front, sides and bottom of the recoil lug. NO tape on the back of the lug. I only bed the action area and one inch of barrel in front of the lug. I use shoe polish as a release agent and it works well. WD-40 for the clean up with Q-tips. I just use a bi-pod to hold the rifle, it works as well as a vise and easier to move around as you work on the stock. I dremel diviots in the stock so the devcon has a better place to imbed and hold in the stock. Do NOT get in a hurry, take your time and have fun with your project. Now would be the best time to add a detachable mag system if you are planning to go that route soon. Don't worry if you mess it up, you can always dremel out the devcon and start again.
  2. My Rem 700 Varmint 26 inch barrel (1/12) shot them well enough. At least as well as anything else I tried. You should be fine using them. After a new stock, bedding, and the barrel cut to 22.5 inches. I shoots 175 SMK and 178 Amax bullets 1/2 MOA or better. I use RE-15 powder.
  3. The bottle of TB is only 9 oz. too. It's not 1 lb like most other powders. Very bulky powder.
  4. Trail Boss works well. Nice light load would be in the 6 grain area for 230/250 lead bullets.
  5. Sounds like you tried to put a .330x65 in a .300x60 dovetail. Should have called Bob.
  6. Unless it's really bright out I use the VR28. I like the Persimmon for over cast and rainy times. Sometimes, on really bright days I will wear the Black Aridiums around the range and switch to the VR28's when it's my turn to shoot. The VR28's really make the targets stand out against the dirt and sandy berms. Just ask Carina what a differance my VR28's made for her at the nationals in Vegas this year. She said she was having a hard time seeing the targets well against the sandy berms. I loaned her my VR28's for the last 2 days of the match. I have the Persimmon, VR28, and Black Aridium setups in M frame and Half jacket frames and really like them. I am an Oakley fan. I tried the Rudy's and didn't like them at all.
  7. This rule is nonsense. I disagree with it because this rule will only affect those shooting non-DA/SA production guns. 3lbs for every trigger pull would make more sense if a trigger weight limit is to be set. No need to grip to MY Area director.... he voted correctly. Thanks Gary.
  8. I think you need to get the cartridge mic die/gauge to check that your sizing die is sizing the brass to the correct length for your chamber.
  9. Local Chevy dealer uses impact wrenches to change oil. First time taking it there they stripped mine out. 30k on the truck and the oil plug is stripped. I change all my fluids myself now. 10 percent unemployment rate and they have these kinda monkies working on stuff.
  10. Brass magnet. Actually, a primer swage system for the RL550. Like maybe use the priming system with a different seater to act as a swage punch.
  11. That was our last stage. I was actually kinda tired and thought I was off the pace a little. I shot the 2 targets on both sides at the back... left side first. Loaded after the door and stopped in the middle to shoot the back most targets and steel. Charged the left window took the 2 through the window turned and charged the right window taking the low barrel target and the far right target accross the range. Took the 2 through the window and turned to the left for the low barrel target and the far left target accross the range.
  12. I run 3.8 grs N320 with the BBI 130's Velocity is about 1025. I think the OAL is 1.140.
  13. Yes the IL sectional match was great. Ray and Eric and their crew did a great job with the match. Thanks guys. I was Mr Fixit.....and felt like the maytag repair man. Congrats to the winners. A big congrats to Darren on the open win. Stage 5 did me in. Mike, you're welcome. Yes I miss having Nationals at PASA. It is the MD and his setup crew that can make or break a match. PASA has all the props and target equipment needed (and local setup crew) to put on some of the best matches. I think we all know what it will take to get the Handgun Nationals back to being the premier match it used to be. But that would venture into the political No No land. I better stop right here.
  14. Chris, yes we will be using the Dark House. You will be using a flash light . To answer the question "what is a Dark House". Just that, a dark house. It's a 16'x30' steel lined shoot house.
  15. The range is in great shape. The roads have been graveled and graded, grass mowed. For those that think we can not run this in 8 hours. The stages are not absurdly large or complicated to reset. HINT most every stage turnaround time should be 3 minutes or less. We have 4 new shade shelters in the valley to keep the sun off you. Thank you Russ and Heinie for those. Of course there may be a fist fight about who gets to work those bottom bays now.
  16. Ok reread the post. Can see what you were trying to say.
  17. Welcome to the forums. Missed that on the first post. As a dealer I got mine a dealer cost. Which I believe was $85-90 a few years ago. I see you are new here. Bashing or talking bad about others is frowned upon here. I do not believe that Heinies standards have drop at all. The cosmetic details are pretty much flawless. The actions all lock up very tight and the guns are very accurate. YMMV but I know Dick personally and have handled many of his guns. Your welcome.
  18. Heinie sells parts as well as doing custom work on 1911's. I have bought several Heinie barrels from him. Last I heard was he had drop barrels from his parts lists. BTW If it ain't marked "R. Heinie" it ain't his work.
  19. If you're not wanting groups try using clay targets. They are bright and easy to see and you don't have to pick them up when your done. We use them out to 640 yards with great results/feedback for the shooters that are demoing the rifles. Steel is not going to be that good for telling groups no matter what range you use them. I take a IPSC target, a sharpie, and yard stick and mark the target with circles and lines (a grid of sorts) for shooting way out there. I measure the lines so I know just how low high or sideways I am. I use the white side and the bullet holes show up real nice.
  20. Thomas L. Walck passed away unexpectedly Saturday, March 26 2011. Services will be held at Malpezzi funeral home, 8 Market Plaza Way, Mechanicsburg, PA. Visitation will begin Wednesday March 30 at 5:30 P.M. with Funeral service starting at 7:00. I had the pleasure of working several matches with Tom. I also have had the pleasure of riding motorcycles across the US with Tom too. Great guy great friend. I'll miss you buddy. We had some great times. Tony Hawkins
  21. Great match!!!!!!!!! Thank you to all that made this match happen. The new bays look great.
  22. Yes the GP6 has Ambi safeties and an Ambi mag release.
  23. While the 270 is a great cartridge....it lacks good quality high BC bullets. And the recoil is gonna be more than you want to put up with. The 308 is the standard. Factory ammo is available every where and your bullet selection is awesome. My next rifle will be a 260 Remington. BTW there is a Remington 308 varmint in a B&C medalist lightweihgt varmint stock over on Snipershide. The price is ok.
  24. I load H4895 for my 30'06. I use 47.5 grs and 178 Amax loaded very long. I have no problem with the powder dropping consistant on my 550. I use the large powder bar and it works fine. You shouldn't need the magnum bar, the large bar will throw as large of powder charge as you will ever want in a Garand.
