  1. Thanks. I think you effectively changed my mind ha. Guess I'll either bite the bullet and go larue, or try a Burris.
  2. Thanks for the reply. Can you elaborate on what your not satisfied with? Just the asthetics? I'm more worried about if it holds zero, and fits the rail and scope properly? Also, hows the mounting height?
  3. Hi guys, Looking for a mount for a Vortex Viper PST im buying, and ran across the mount linked below. Looks pretty solid, but wondering if anyone has any experience with it? I dont need QD. Thanks for any feedback. http://www.vortexoptics.com/product/cantilever-ring-mount-for-30mm-riflescope-tube-2-inch-offset
  4. An Extra sear fit to your hammer. Dont think you'd ever need it? I didnt either, until the EGW sear in my limited gun broke in HALF during a match. Nothing else wrong with the gun, sear just failed. Other than that, Sear Pin Hammer pin Grip screws/ bushings FO insert extractor (tensioned) ejector recoil spring sear spring main spring Slide stop barrel link (?) Oh hell, just buy a backup gun!
  5. I think this^^ is a pretty good recommendation. I dont see what CHA-LEE is confusing? He stated that the JHPs are longer, therefore if seated to the same OAL/COL as the FMJ, the case volume will be less and pressures will be higher given the powder charge stays the same. Makes sense to me. Plus he took into account that OAL is "GUN dependent", suggesting that if the OPs current OAL cycles well, then mimick the length with the JHPs and back off the powder charge.
  6. Amazing. I agree, this^ needs it's own thread. I would travel a good ways to shoot a match like this...
  7. Im really liking my DAA racers. They are incredibly smooth. I promise you wouldn't be disappointed with them. (I use them for STI mags)
  8. Crap!?!! Overnight is $120.... 2nd day air is $60... And they can't guarantee it because of the stupid hurricane!
  9. I find that this solves soooo many shooting (and non-shooting) related problems.
  10. Ok, thanks. I was told 2nd day air was sufficient, but maybe not?
  11. In addition to legal requirements, you might want to give them a day or two before shipping anything to the East Coast. Even if your smith isn't in an area getting hit by Sandy, the shippers are al going to be running behind, and there's a better chance for packages to get delayed or lost during a big storm. BB Thanks, I hadnt really taken that into consideration. Can anyone comment on the legal requirements? Just trying to cover all my bases.
  12. Guys, I need to ship my Limited gun to the original builer for repairs, and he is located in NY. I just wanted to make sure there are no unique or special requirements for New York before I box it up Thanks.
  13. Jazz up a bit?? What else is there to do to one?? Disappointed I didn't make it to the gator. I didn't get signed up in time... Wouldn't have mattered anyway, since I found a crack in my limited gun slide last week.... Bummer.
  14. Is your press bolted to a bench? If so, you'll have to un bolt it. The "bolt" is on the back of the press frame, it will be inaccessible if the press is bolted to to the edge of a bench.
  15. That's a sweet gun. I'm most likely going to order one from Jim soon... Sorry, Aggie... But I'll probably copy your gun exactly
  16. The ram has to come out. Take the primer feed out, un bolt the the arms, take the brass bolt out of the frame that indexes the plate, and the ram should slide out.
  17. Checking this often defeats the purpose of having an auto indexing ammo plant. Maybe you load on a smaller press or maybe you don't shoot much ammo but your method seems a little overkill. Besides, I think constantly pulling rounds off the press to check powder drops opens up even more potential for an error to happen such as a squib or even a double charge. Once the machine has been dialed in and is running smooth the chances of a mistake are greatly reduced. As for 9MAJOR, I load on a 650 and Once I confirm my load is set I start making ammo. I check and make any fine tuning adjustments only every 500 rounds or so. Which is every half hour. I agree. If I had to check powder weights that often, there's no way I would re load. If I didn't trust my press any more than that, I'd throw it away. Once I get my SDB set, and have 5-10 throws check good, I roll with it. I bet I've loaded 1000-2000 rounds before without ever going to the scale.
  18. Yep, 22 your first time is great. Better watch out, or you'll be on a skeet field every weekend instead of shooting pistols! Ha. I shot skeet competitively all through college, I loved it. Your first straight 25 will feel amazing... And your first 100 straight will have you smiling for a week. Ps, if your shooting actual American Skeet, you should start high ready with face mounted to the gun every time. Only those crazy international and Olympic guys start with a low gun
  19. Thanks for the suggestion, but nope. I run standard Wolf springs, and the slide makes nice solid contact at the back of the cycle.
  20. How much time do golfers spend actually swinging the club in 18 holes?? How much time do skeet/trap/sporting clay shooters actually spend shooting versus waiting on the rest of the squad to shoot and riding between stations?? Swimmers will sit at a meet all day for a few minutes worth of laps in a pool... I've spent almost an entire day hiking through the woods, hungry and thirsty, for only several minutes on an amazing rock climbing route. I've even sat at RC airplane competitions all day, for only a few minutes worth of flight time. My point is (and all the examples were from personal experience) that most sports in which individuals compete require a lot of "waiting" time. You sit and think and plan for your 15 seconds of fame, and when your name is called, you give the best performance you can. I guess at the root of it, we enjoy the thrill of flying through a stage, the lingering adrenaline afterwards, the competition, and the comrodary.
  21. I'm sure it COULD be welded. However, As far as I'm concerned, it's done.
  22. I'd say 12lb is probably the most common weight for a 2011 limited gun in .40. The original owner used and recommended that weight... the builder recommended that weight... and you will find that weight recommended by many people on this forum.
  23. I don't think so, it looks like it started at the bottom corner by the guide rod. Sharp corner=stress riser, small crack started there and propagated up to the hole. A small radius might have prevented it. I dont blame the cuts. There are many builers that use cuts VERY similar to these. And as BillD stated, the crack started at the back edge of the sping tunnel, and continued up the side of the slide. 12lb
  24. Sent them an email (in meetings at work and can't call them right now), so I'm waiting on a response.
