  1. Thanks for the suggestions guys. I'll check em out. Is there any "needed" difference between the gempro and the Mack 20???
  2. Hey guys, What is the best bang for the buck in scales right now? I have an old RCBS, but its time to replace it. Either digital, or not, doesnt matter to me. Just need something that is accurate but doesnt break the bank.
  3. You are right!!! Its pretty easy to tie up 5-6 grand in a shotgun with a full tube set..... and WAY more if you want a K gun. Anyways, as an update, I'm starting to look real hard at a Cameron Custom. I shot a fellow shooters 5" built by Camerons custom guns some this past weekend, and wow its nice. Plus his guns are dead sexy, very clean and clasic. Still looking around, but Camerons Customs is definitely in top contention.
  4. You will enjoy it. The lack of recoil will amaze you. I have basically the same setup but blued. Dawson no gap, ambi safetys, VZ grips, and a Koenig hammer. As for 9mm 1911s not being reliable..... Well I'm close to 2000 rounds in my Trojan. Not ONE hiccup WHATSOEVER. And that is with a buffet of different ammo. Federal champion from Wally World, Blazer Brass, Remington UMC, WWB, Winchester JHP, a friends lead reloads, and some USA ammo.
  5. USPSA? One, LOL. But honestly, that does not really matter to me. I'm hooked. Even if I was never going to shoot another USPSA match, I would still want a nice Limited gun. I'm moving over to pistol shooting from several years of competitive shotgunning. I learned from that ( and other sports/hobbies ) that I end up spending more money in the long run by purchasing entry level gear, and then trying to upgrade after a short period of time. I realize that over time, and as you mature in the sport, your tastes and preferences change, but I will deal with that if and when it happens. I like the Brazos limited guns, and that is another option I'm considering. Thanks again for the advice guys! This is a great Forum.
  6. Thanks for all the advice guys. After spending the most of last night researching and reading the advice given here, I've come a lot closer to deciding which direction I'm going to go. Yes, I would love an Infinity build, but over 3K is more than I'm willing to spend on my first Limited gun. Plus, I plan on shooting the division before 2013 ha. I realize that the chrome wheels do not make the car go faster, but I do think subconsciously we feel more confident with a gun that is personalized, cosmetically pleasing to us, and built to our own specs. I believe that confidence CAN have an impact on your shooting. That being said, I'm looking very hard at having a custom gun built by either Freedom Gunworks, or another custom builder I have access to. After researching, the price point will not be a whole ton higher than a Dawson tuned EDGE when said and done. And lead times are considerably less than an Infinity build. SO, I think that is probably the direction I will go for now, and maybe one day I can retire it to backup position and order that Infinity.
  7. Ok, so I'm still new at competition pistol shooting, but I don't think I can fight the urge much longer. I want a Limited gun!! So, I'm hoping to get some opinions from you guys that have experience with the division. What I want: An EDGE. Have Dawson Precision tune it up, do the trigger job, and install a FO sight when I order it. Then, Koenig hammer, some radical slide lightening cuts/ tri-topped, an SVI sight tracker barrel (maybe), Tungsten rod, Flat trigger, Stippled grip, Dawson Big ICE magwell. What I REALLY want: 5" Infinity build... Pretty much exactly like this one, only with full dust cover.. http://www.sviguns.com/largepics/194.jpg But yea, thats not gonna happen right now. What I will probably do: Get an EDGE from Dawson's with FO sight, trigger job, and ICE magwell, and just shoot the crap out of it for a while. Modify it later, or as I have the time/ money. Mags: IDK? prob just 4 or 5 STI mags with Dawson basepads?? But which spring/follower combo is the best? Anyways, Would like to hear yalls thoughts. Thanks!
  8. Gosh, Id have a hard time selling my 9mm Trojan. LOVE the gun for limited steel. My opinion? Get another Trojan in .40 unless you have any qualms with your 9mm. You already know the gun, they run great, and for a competition single stack I dont think spending more money gets you and more performance. Get Dawson to tune it up, do the trigger job, slap your well on it and shoot. Spend the rest on ammo/reloading equip.
  9. I'm 6'6" and 265 pounds, with bear claws for hands. The Dawson Precision ICE single stack well does not affect my grip at all. In fact, I think it enhances it. The bottom of my hand just touches the top of the magwell, so that it just reinforces my grip without crowding. Unlike 2011 magwells that actually begin ABOVE the actual bottom of the frame, the ICE single stack well flare starts at the base of the frame. It does not encroach onto the normal grip area at all.
  10. I just found this thread, and found it interesting. I Shoot shotguns AND pistols competitively, but have only picked up pistols this year. I have been shooting skeet and trap competitions for years. The transitions from Target/Sight focus have definitely been a challenge. Watching the target with intense focus has been so ingrained in my mind over the years with a shotgun, that is seems natural to do the same thing with a pistol. I have no problem focusing on the sight if I'm shooting bullseye or shooting for groups, but when I'm moving or shooting steel it is very hard for me to keep my focus on the sight. Honestly I do pretty well that way too, which I believe comes from shooting a shotgun that way for so long, but I lack the accuracy edge. Whats funny, is that part of my brains issue with focusing on the front sight is that I feel like I cant pick a spot to shoot on the target as well. But when I actually do focus on the sight, the shots end up exactly where I intended them to be. What makes it even worse, is now that I'm practicing my front sight focus more, I find my focus popping from front sight to target and back randomly throughout a stage. That makes it REALLLY hard to shoot well consistently. SO, I'm just going to keep practicing, dry firing, and reminding myself before each string of fire to look the sight. And maybe put the scaterguns in the safe for a while.
  11. +Another for the STI Trojan. They are OUTSTANDING for the price point. MIne has been 100% reliable through 2000 rounds with Dawson 10rnd mags. And that is with a buffet of different kinds of 9mm ammo! Oh, plus Ive done a few 3/4" groups at 25yds on bags with it.
  12. Have not tried shooting twice on a reaction drill like that... But no, I dont think it would show a split... because it does not record the first shot... it would think the 2nd shot is the first.
  13. I guess I dont understand. the beep is normally .3 seconds? so if I understand that correctly, unless your slower than .3 it wont record you?? The pocket Pro 2 definitely has a random start. But that does not apply much to the problem? Wether the timer gives the random start, or a human... its the same thing? What is 9.4.6.2?? Sorry if its a stupid question.
  14. Thanks for the responses guys. My guess is that, like stated above, it does not start recording until the beep is done?? Which poses a problem, because Im not the Flash or anything, but I can for sure break the shot before the beep stops? That is kind of a bummer. The Pocket Pro 2 is a very popular timer, and I hear about this drill a lot.... So I figured it would work?? ( or I guess it will if you reaction time is over .20 or .25??) If anyone else has experienced this.. or has any ideas please let me know. Thanks!
  15. Hey guys, I was reading on here about a drill where you start on the target, and break a shot as soon as you hear the buzzer. I had never tried this, so I decided I would today. I use a Pocket Pro 2 timer, that always works great. Problem is that It was not recording my shot? My buddy was helping me ( holding the timer). I was breaking a shot as soon as I heard the beep, but nothing showed up? If I hesitated, the timer would pick up the shot. Around .20 or so. But at full speed it wouldnt read anything?? Am I just "outrunning" the Pocket Pro?
  16. I know its my first post an all... But I completely agree. What could it hurt? .22s are a lot of fun in their own right, and the speed boundaries could really be pushed. It would also give people a less expensive alternative if they want to try the sport. The only problem I could see is having to taylor stages around a .22. Obviously no poppers or reactive plates could be included. No stars, no polish racks. AND sometimes those tiny little holes are hard to find in cardboard. Hmm, on second thought I'm not real sure how well it would work out. Maybe we should save the rimfires for blazing through steel challenge plates.
