  1. I'll update with the results. JimmyZ, how much powder are you loading at that length? What PF does it get you? Any pressure signs?
  2. Thanks guys. Going to chrono this week, and bump it up to at least 4.8 and see what happens. Also going to be trying Alliant American Select.
  3. Hey guys, Just tried some Solo 1k in .40, and have mixed feelings. I think it shot pretty well, feels nice, and meters well in my Dillon, but geez it seems dirty. I'm loading 180gr Xtreme plated bullets at 1.170", with 4.7gr of Solo1k. This load isn't QUITE major, but I'm working up slowly Only problem is, after about 150 rounds, the front inch of my gun (Bedell Spitfire) is covered in black soot. The barrel hood, ejection port, and tops of the mags get sooty as well. I'm wondering I'm still very low on pressure, so it's just not all burning off well?(
  4. My "RAcer" holster allows the gun the tilt slightly back and forth as well, but its due to some undercutting on my trigger guard. Doesnt really bother me, as the gun is secure, and I dont feel it when I draw.
  5. oh, but it does! Straight from their site: "True to 1911 tradition, the Edge has a unique full length slide with front and rear cocking serrations, STI dovetail front sight and STI adjustable rear sight. The Edge comes standard with features such as a stainless steel STI knuckle relief hi-ride grip safety and stainless steel STI ambi-thumb safeties. It comes with an STI stainless steel fully supported, ramped bull barrel. You can add custom serial numbers, colored grips and triggers, hard chrome, engraving inlays and fiber optic or tritium sights. Not only is it the most accurate and reliable handgun on the market, it can now be one of the most beautiful. The Edge ships with one 126mm magazine." Check out the picture as well. Why would they leave a carbon steel barrel in the white?
  6. Yep, Xtremes are plated. I had a chance to try about 500 of these a few days ago. First of all, out of the 20 I checked, they all measured EXACTLY .400. Very consistent. I loaded them over Solo 1000 at prob a little under Major PF, and I had no problems with them through my AET 5". I didnt really try for groups, but they seemed accurated enough. Ive heard as you push Solo faster, sometimes the accuracy gets better. So there is prob some room for improvement in the load. But none tumbled. All made nice round holes at 15, 25, and 35yds.
  7. I am having a similar problem with my new limited gun. It has a threaded STI mag catch, and Dawson button. Ocasionally, when I'm drawing, my weak hand palm hits the release, and drops the mag. Its pretty frustrating. I do have giant hands, but I NEVER had this problem with my single stack, and it had a large Ed Brown mag button. I THINK the problem is that the Dawson ICE magwell forces my hands up to high (can barely get my hand between beaver tail and magwell) and is causing my weak hand palm ( right below my thumb ) to hit the button. I'm going to order a Dawson Big Hands Ice and see if it helps.
  8. Not sure how much pressure each one of these guys is applying with each thumb???? But I'd bet they are all pretty similar. Thumbs forward was always the most natural way of holding a pistol for me. Strong thumb on the safety, and weak tumb on the frame.
  9. Thanks for the info. However, I need to know if they work well in an Ultimatch AET with gain twist rifling. I know they work great in conventional rifling, love them in my 9mm.
  10. Bump. Need to know if these bullets are good to go.
  11. Guys, Looking for some affordable bullets to feed my limited gun with Ultimatch AET gain twist barrel. I like Xtreme bullets, and have had good luck with them in 9mm. Problem is, someone told me that they tried them in an AET one time, and they had a problem with them tumbling?? Assumed it was becasue they were soft and .400 and not .401?? Can anyone clear this up? Or does anyone have good luck with these bullets in an AET barrel? Thanks.
  12. Thanks. Is that Precision Delta? or Precision Bullets (moly)? What PF are you at with 4.4grns and 1.18 OAL?
  13. Hey guys, I want to try some Solo 1000 behind Xtreme plated 180grn RNFP. Just wondering if anyone has good .40 major data for this combination? Thanks.
  14. From the NSSA rule book: 13. Dead Target A target from which, in the sole judgment of the referee, a visible piece is observed before the target hits the ground as a result of having been legally fired upon. 14. Lost Target A target from which in the sole judgment of the referee no visible piece is broken as a result of having been fired upon. As far as clay targets, I think trying to pre-determine what is, and what is not a hit is pretty hard. Much like skeet, I think it should be left up to the referee, or "RO" in our case, to determine weather or not "a visible piece is broken as a result of having been fired upon". Yes, this would mean that ONE bb sized hole would most certainly count as a hit. In skeet (in which I competed for several years) we do not have the luxury of being able to inspect a target after the shot. Hence, the broken piece usually has to be much bigger than bb sized to be observed by the ref before the target hits the ground. Not the case with a static clay. Edit: Apologies for the thread jack, as it really has nothing to do with clay targets, but they had been mentioned several times.
  15. Yep. I had only fired 100-150 rounds through the gun, but everything was set up just right. Over travel, sear/hammer engagement, everything seemed great. Definitely no hammer follow. I'm chalking this one up to a fluke in the metallurgy.
  16. Well, I know of no reason that the hammer would have been falling to half cock? I do not know the exact history of how the hammer was manipulated thoughout the life of the gun, but it never saw half cock while in my possession.
  17. I think you might be refering to the relief cut for the thumb safety? Sear spring rides on the "left" leg of the sear.
  18. Yea, just the resolution I guess. Does not look that way in person, no pitting.
  19. So I was all ready to shoot my first match with my new (to me) limited gun, then halfway through the first stage the gun locked up. After getting it apart, this is what we found. This is a custom built 2011, and I BELIEVE an EGW sear. Just curious if anyone has seen this happen before??
  20. Hey guys, Recently picked up some Brazos tuned tubes, but they did not come with basepads. I slapped some Dawson SNL pads on them, and they are JUST shy of fitting in the gauge. What are the tricks to making them fit, without messing with the lips?
  21. Alliant lists data for American Select in .40. Hard to make major with it apparently. I have a good bit from shotgunning, and might try it with my 180 grn Xtremes and see where I can get.
  22. Now THAT'S good advice! Can anyone confirm that the shoes are the same??
  23. Wow, what pf do you get with that load? 5.1 grains of Solo with a Precision Moly 170 gr at 1.180 gets me 172 pf His MGs will be slower than your Molys, so the extra powder is expected. I am wondering how that 1.85" is working though!?
