  1. Nik, excellent post. In reference to your question about CCW by competitors, I caught a competitor carrying concealed during a match a couple of years ago using an ankle holster . It left me with the impression that if a person is that paranoid they probably didn't need to be at the match in the first place.
  2. I have both. I used the 550 for years then had the opportunity to rescue a 650 that had been sitting in a barn for seven years. Dillon rebuilt the 650 and returned it in like new condition. That was April 2012, since then the cover has not been off the 550. Nothing wrong with the 550 both are excellent machines but I prefer the 650.
  3. According to my Dillon 650 manual - "Small - use for dropping 3-20 grains."
  4. JZ gives you good advice. I sent a used Dillon 650 I rescued from a barn to Dillon along with the refurbishing fee for that model. Not only did it come back looking new but all the missing accessory pieces were replaced at no extra charge.
  5. GI 7.62 NATO broken shell extractors are easy to find and not expensive, good tool to have around.
  6. The solution I used was warm soapy water, the cleaner removed a Dulite finish from the Thompson part.
  7. I sent the Pro back to S&W on 28 March, it was returned today. Repair ticket states the rear sight was replaced.
  8. Unless they are stainless steel parts I would not do it. I made the mistake of putting an original 1928 Thompson compensator in a sonic cleaner, it cleaned it down to the bare metal. I won't make that mistake again.
  9. The majority of people I have known of who have had their vehicle or home broken into and having their firearms stolen tended to be those who bragged about what they had. Best to keep some things to yourself and not set yourself up.
  10. I have noticed a drop in participation of our regulars in local matches who are not reloaders. They claim they don't have any ammunition to participate with. I expect a few who only bought reloading components in small quantity to drop out next.
  11. When I needed glasses for shooting I went to my eye doctor who helped me with a pair of perscription safety glasses. He had me bring my pistol in and assisted in determining extactly what I needed to be able to see the sights and target at the ranges I normally competed at. The frames I picked out look like regular eye glass frames and the lenses are safety rated. Now I can't read that well with these due to them having less magnifcation than my normal reading glases but for shooting they work perfectly. Being safety glasses my insurance policy paid for all but the $35 co-pay. Check with your eye doctor, he made be able to do the same for you.
  12. Darwinism at work, in this case the potential to thin out the already shallow gene pool of the individual that thought this was a good idea.
  13. I started out shooting 9mm in a Sig P226, then to a M&P Pro 9mm. Two years later I bought a M&P45 more as a joke due to kidding about shooting a 9mm at steel targets. It turned out I shot the 45 M&P better than I did the 9mm Pro,. Just the opposite of what most folks would have thought happened. I continued shooting the 45 in Production and started shooting it in L10 as well, just like it better than the 9mm. Find a caliber you like and stick with it.
  14. I saw a vendor at the last AGCA show in Birmingham asking $69.95 per thousand, needless to say he didn't have many takers.
  15. I deprime the cases before putting them in a sonic cleaner. Why? Gives me something to do, being retired leaves me with lots of spare time to fill.
  16. I never thought I would find a shotgun I liked better than my Auto 5s but these 2000s are pretty darn good shotguns. I installed a 18.5 barrel, Nordic magazine extension that allows for 8 rounds and use it in our local side matches. Never has missed a beat. Shoots anything that will fit in it. When I first got it I had shotgun shells of undetermined age that were my late father's, all different brands and types, and decided to use them up. The 2000 fed them without a hicup during my first match with it.
  17. Just got to love the ROs with the "make em up as you go" rule book attitude.
  18. Started with a CED Deluxe bag several years ago now using a CED Compact bag and much prefer it over the Deluxe size. Both I would highly recommend based on layout and costruction. The only reason for the switch from the Deluxe to the Compact was that I was not carrying enough to justify the large size bag.
  19. Thanks guys. This one will fall completely out of the slot if the screw is loose and the slide is tilted. Guess I will send it back to S&W.
  20. Are the rear sights on M&P Pros suppose to be so loose in the dove tail that the only thing holding them is the set screw? The set screw on mine loosened and the rear sight fell out of the dove tail, no resistence what so ever. I spoke to S&W about it and all I got was "Send it back and we will take a look." I don't want to go through the trouble of doing that if they are all loose like this.
  21. The mount the OP is showing is the 650 only mount. Bought one by mistake last year.
  22. No problems in my M&P Pro 9mm or my M&P45. Bought them from a fellow who had problems with them in his Glock. Could not pass them up for $10 per 1000, bought 15,000. The primers were not his problem, it was the springs he had installed in the Glock.
  23. I don't know about the 3500 but the 2000 works very well.
  24. At my age, I don't enjoy surprises of that sort.
