  1. Hey Doug! I recently advised a friend to try loading HardCast Lead using my old "black bullet" 147 load of N310 at 1.140"+ and a charge weight of 2.8 grns. I know the black bullet would not make PF out of a Glock 17. My friend is using a longer barrel. HERE is the kicker: he will be using LEAD in his GLOCK (a 34). YES I KNOW ABOUT GLOCKS AND LEAD. I AM WELL AWARE OF WHAT HAPPENS WHEN SHOOTING LOTS OF SOFT LEAD BULLETS IN POLYGONAL RIFLING. However, I also understand that the warning does not apply IF the barrel is cleaned after 250 rounds or fewer. Moreover, he is going for just over 850 FPS - not faster than that. Again, its hardcast. What charge of N310 did you use & what chrono did you get?
  2. I HATE MIDDLE EASTERN OIL. (shout mode off) Its gotten us into more trouble since 1979 than its worth. I'd gladly pay a whole lot more for a USA made fuel like BioDiesel. HI-5 wrote: 'What about long term effects on the vehicle's parts and seals?I heard it deteriorates rubber seals faster?barry" On antiques maybe, but modern diesels are made to handle it. What are its problems?: -its cleaner to burn -its cleaner in the engine -its MORE powerful (higher cetane) ANd because production is so small, it actaully costs more in real terms that regular filthy sulfer laden diesel we now burn (going away this year). The patriotic thing to do is switch to USA made BioDiesel. Why would you rather give your $$$ to the middle east & Venezuela's Hugo Chavez instead of a US farmer?
  3. We have shot poppers at long range on a buck-shot specified stage (york PA). I used regular 00 buck from Germany (wolf brand I believe). "Wolf" is just a name and they sell ammo made ian many countries. Never used buck on a plate. All our local clubs specily birdshot #7 or smaller for plates.
  4. At the club in question, we run into 2 small problems w/ re-shooting the classifier in L10 (but I have a possible fix): 1) We shoot at a business, not a "club". We are an affiliate USPSA "club" - but please understand that we are shooting on the clock at a cost to a corporation which runs a training center & public shooting range. Point is, we don't have the time that a typical club might have to re-shoot classifiers. 2) Area 8 policy (not a rule) frowns on re-shooting classifiers. I am aware that it is done in other areas of USPSA. However, given the unique situation that SS shooters are in, and given my desire to encourage this new provisional division, please contact me if you are going to shoot SS at our match & I'll try to work something out for you guys. 5. Funny soon enough? -it was funny as hell at the time & seemed like the guy most amused was Bruce! You are a good sport Bruce and I think you did a great job of sticking with it despite the amazing exploding magazine debacle (FYI - Bruce never let up and cleared the gun as fast as possible under the circumstances). I know it must be frustrating. However, this was just our humble indoor (4 stages in ONE bay - 36 ft wide) and the out-door season has not started yet; think of last night as "early spring training" - that's all. You'll get it squared away soon I am sure. I think you shot very well on the remaining stages. BTW - the basepads I am useing are CZ brand rubber coated steel. They are factory issue on several models of CZ that are Production approved; thus they can be used on your Production CZ-40 (though they must each be fit to the mag). I think that the old plastic basepads that came with your gun were the cause. I would discard them. D.
  6. Carinab wrote: "So what was up with the opening ceremony?" Um - maybe trying to out-do the French? -just joking of course; I like our flamboyant friends as much as the next guy. D. While I agree with the statement that dissent within the USA is a form of patriotism, I strongly disagree personally with this guy's statement AND with his choice of venue. I hope that EVERYONE lets him know exactly what they think of him going overseas & announcing this sort of un-patriotic non-sense to Europe & the rest of the world. Who is he trying to convince or pander to? Should the Olympics be an appropriate forum to air grievances about US politics? - and on that note, I think this thread might be on thin ice as far as the BrianEnos forum policy regarding political discussion so I will stop short of further comment. 7. When I first started out in GSSF/Team shooting, I was part of "Team Blazer". As long as the hard CCI primers go off in your Production Race gun, then its accurate, clean, available ammo. The CCI Electroplated bullets in Blazer are the same as they use in CCI/Speer Lawman practice ammo & are the same Electroplating technology as Speer Gold Dot (an electroplated bullet). As far as Wolf goes, I don't use it in competition or even practice much, but I have found the primers to be very sensitive - about like Federal.
  8. Agreed- though the factory parts do vary by quite a bit. When I raced motocycles, we always suspected that the factory teams would test a pile of engine parts for certain characteristics & select the best ones for race use. Result would be a motor with unaltered factory parts - yet with all the characteristics of a specialized race motor. The gains were small, but they mattered to the top teams.
  9. I've seen the scenario where the .45 had enough extractor tension to hold the .40 on the breechface, and allow the primer to be detonated. That .40 case ruptures and expands right to .45 diameter... Bullet apparently left the barrel, though.... Here too. Fisrst saw it at a match w/ a newby shooting a .40 Glock but having unknowingly loaded 9mm ammo into the mag. Three or four rounds went downrange w/ the shooter hand-cycling between rounds before the RO yelled STOP!. No apparent damage to the gun. Saw it again at the public indoor range where I volunteer; no apparent damage to a Ruger .40 that the shooter was using. Cases looked weird though.
  10. Lawman wrote: "Vanek triggers did not come out of nowhere. The fact that USPSA is only now making this ruling is an extremely poor choice. " My issue from the start has been the timing issue and the current financial impact on shooters like Lawman. I don't shoot a Glock but I have two good friends who do; these are guys who I pushed to compete in USPSA and I have been to their homes to set up their Dillon 650s for Production; gave them load data, practiced with them, travelled to many matchs with them etc. They have both now surpassed me as far as their USPSA classification - with Glocks. It is very unfortunate to see this rule take its effects on my friends. This ruling (affecting the most popular Production gun in USPSA) should have been made earlier. However, I have a hard time reconciling the prior NROI ruling on the speed bump trigger with those who would create an exception for the Vanek relocated trigger bar pin. Driver8M3 is one of those friends. He makes a point about the guiderod pictured above. As far as the lighter springs on those rods, I can tell you that with our Production load, a different weight spring is REQUIRED to enhance reliability. Does NROI require the use of the stock Glock plastic guiderod in Production? What about the polymer guiderod end cap that often pops off on its own? Regards, D.C. Johnson
  11. "And then after that maybe they'll listen and make a 6 inch 45 ACP revo...... or heaven forbid....maybe a moonclipped 6 shot 40 in a medium frame with a decent site radius" Now that would be a fine idea. I'm a Smith guy, personally, but I like the idea of competition - even between brands. Now a carbon steel Mountain Gun in .45 ACP - that would be cool.
  12. BTT - the case support photos are excellent. Thanks
  13. Have yet to chrono it under .40 cal 180; primers looked OK & 50 meter accuarcy was good. Will have to do more testing; no idea how close to/over Major it could be.
  14. The range is located in one of the most liberal parts of the state. I would guess that the County in question thought they had put an insurmountable hurdle in the path of this gun range's opening by requireing it to operate only with "lead free ammo". The range got the last laugh & opened anyway. Unfortunately, they are stuck with the county requirement to only use ammo that they sell on the premises requirement. The Sig Arms Academy is run under actual lead free ammo restrictions; the primers are lead free as are the bullets (the latter being sintered copper).
  15. I think half the people here are mis-using or mis-understanding the word "lead". Lead bullets are just that - lead - with a groove or two to hold solid lubricant (looks & feels like wax at room temp.) These tend NOT to be PURE lead but are rather "hardcast". THESE bullets cause problems over time and pure/soft lead is supposed to make it worse - if you shoot enough of it. In contrast MOLY JACKETED or POLYMER JACKETED like Nationals present no problem whatsoever. THEY ARE NOT THE "LEAD" BULLETS WE ARE TALKING ABOUT. ANd copper plated/jacketed? I have well over 12,000 rounds through my GLock 17 barrel with NO cleaning of the bore whatsoever. We won 4 of 5 GSSF team events in 2005 with the barrel in that condition. D.C. 16. Excellent - thanks for the answer; I have been legal all along.
  17. I noticed that it is missing the lanyard loop. Does this mean that the same part could be installed on a regular SP-01? THanks.
  18. Ever since I first saw a Lahti 20mm for sale at a gun show, I have always thought of it as the ultimate "small arm". I think it was $2000 back in 1984 - at the gunshow was actually in Baltimore City! - too cool though; stainless muzzle brake, wood barrel jacket, skis, and this is the best part - many of them were full auto. Here is a pic of one that has been butchered (demilled):
  19. I am with Kimberkid on this one: its too late. Can NROI reasonably expect a guy who has $485 in his Glock 17 and close to $300 in his Vanek to just scrap the Vanek? After 3 years of use? Look, I do not shoot a Glock, but a friend recently earned a slot to the Nationals - and it was earned with a Vanek. Now, according to NROI, he is supposed to go back to the 5.5 lb trigger that came in the gun or go play "glock parts roulette" trying to figure what works for him? This seems to be poor timing on the part of NROI.
  20. NOT coming to a gun-shop near you (not a civilian one anyway). South African 20 mike mike rifle for those really long MOR stages. http://club.guns.ru/eng/ntw20.html
  21. For those interested in the SL 900, there is a display model for sale at a discount through the shop that was previously owned by Phil; Shooters Paradise in Virginia. I believe its in 12 gauge WITH the case feeder. That is ALL the info I have; if you are interested, don't reply here or to me, but rather call the manager directly: Jime Rowe: (703) 491-4867. Thanks, D.
  22. BSeevers: What's a "baby boomers" ??!?! And while you are at it, can you define "music on vinyl" ?!?!

    The Kaboom....

I use a KKM for my Major 9 glock. It is a very strong and well made barrel.
  24. Seems like an appropriate time to say the following to ALL of our Area Directors: THANK YOU!!! It is easy to forget that you are all volunteers and that you do your job for our benefit & out of a love for the sport. I think it is sometimes too easy for us (well , for me anyway) to forget that fact for a moment when leveling criticism. See everyone at the range, Regards, D.C. Johnson
