  1. Could not have said it any better. All the best Linda! D.
  2. I think that the very soft Federal primers will appear flat even when pressures are very low. I am certain that if you switch to Winchester or Remington primers, they will appear "normal" after firing. I agree about making the length 1.250" or so. As for IPSC in Sweden, you probably know about Johnnie's site: www.strictlyipsc.com
  3. My good friend Vlad is reluctantly selling the CZ-75 Champoin he has owned since 2003; it equiped with the OKO dot sight & dedicated CZ mount. It is the most reliable open gun I have ever shot. The gun has only been shot in a few competitions & all with Minor ammo. There are pictures and description on www.shootersparadise.com in the classifieds.
  4. ricciardelli - V V nows lists published, approved, SAAMI and CIP - safe loads for N 310 used in .45 ACP. Moreover, N310 and 200 grn bullets are selected over all others for the custom built, Wilson Combat 1911s test-fire targets. It is also becomming the top choice among Bullseye .45 shooters. Why do you believe it is a bad choice? Was there some confusion about .40 vs .45 ACP? Also, I have to disagree w/ super-hard CCI primers - they are unrealiable with any lightened mainspring/light trigger job and I believe that most serious USPSA shooters run a lighter-than factory mainspring or lightened trigger in their 1911s. Many prefer Winchester or Federal primers. Regards, D.C. Johnson
  5. The Tanfoglio line we get here in the USA is limited to what the importer calls the "witness" line. In their catalog, they list the limited, stock & Gold but I have yet to see any at a dealer . Tanfoglios are great & are indeed CZ clones though parts usually do not interchange, incl. trigger pin size, extractor pin size, mag relaease, safety (NONE of these interchange w/ a CZ). This should be a reliable, and unusually accurate gun.
  6. Congrats! That gun is a beaut & looks even better with the wood grips. Thanks for the pictures and the thorough range report. It seems as if these SP-01s are showing up at dealers all over the country. Look forward to hearing how it does at the next USPSA/IDPA shoot.
  7. Wakal, those magazines look like 3" Magnum magazines; do you shoot the expensive 3" magnum rounds or have you made it function with 2 & 3/4" 20 gauge shells? If so, how?
  8. One answer? Publicize the fact that there will be one or more revolver shooters at a match. Here is Area 8, we have had 2 or 3 local matches late this year (after Nationals) where several revolver owners got together & shot on the same squad. At the last Thurmont, MD match, no fewer than 8 of us shot revolver; at last weekend's York, there were 3 or 4 and I believe Fredericksburg also had a squad or so of shooters. Key is just for ONE person to make a commitment to shoot the match with a revolver and then TELL everyone & see who shows up with a wheelgun.
  9. "Suzuki makes a 550 no frills sport bike that is light and petite. I do not know the model number" I think that is the GS500 I referred to above & if so, its a very reliable air/oil cooled twin that uses the oil injectors Suzuki developed on the older GS & later first generation GSXRs; the oil coolling jets aimed at the pistons & crank had the added effect of making those engines last forever! I campaigned an '86 GSXR "flexi-flyer" for a season and it was terrifying. High speed wobbles, terrible brake fade and frame flex around & out of every turn. Sigh - I really miss that bike. The GS is a fine, reliable bike if you are seeking is to save some $$$ on gas. THe Kawasaki liquid cooled 500 has more power & should get slightly better milage if you are easy on the throttle. But for economy, fun, & light weight/small size, I'd still go for the Suzuki SV.
  10. Hi Rika & good shooting at Area 2. I am a former road racer too but I hung up my leathers after a big crash during a 6 hour race at Road Atlanta in 1999 (front brakes locked up). I still have that old Honda F4, but Washington is possibly the worst place to ride! (not going back to the street). The 400s have mostly disappeared from the US market (though I know that they fit into Japan's tiered licensing scheme). About the smallest bikes sold in the US now are (as you mentioned) the 250 Twins (Kawasaki Ninja or the old Honda VTR 250 if you can find one used - Hondas last forever!). Next step up is a parallel twin 500cc Kawasaki (literally 1/2 of the older 1000 Ninja inline 4) or the air-cooled Suzuki GS - reliable but slooooow. However, if you really want a fun ride w/ much more modern suspension (after all, we know its all about how the bike handles) then take a look at the Suzuki SV 650 V twin. Sure, its a few more CC's than you asked for, but I think its the best of the lighter bikes out there. It should get great milage and I know you would feel right at home since its a capable track bike. C.
  11. Steve - here is a story from a nuetral/liberal news source to at least get her thinking: http://www.abcnews.go.com/US/story?id=1303400 recently at work, a friend & co-worker who knows I shoot brought up the idea of home defense w/a gun. She is a new mom & has NO gun experience & is generally anti-gun (thanks to M. Moore). She asked: "Could you really look someone in the eye and shoot another human being?" I thought about it for a moment & then, I answered truthfully. I said, "I don't know. I might freeze up. I might panic. Anything could happen & the fact is, I have never had to shoot anyone. I do not think anyone can say for sure how they would react - until the moment it happens. All I can do is prepeare myself as well as I can and hope I do the right thing." Then I asked her a question: "Could you shoot someone who threatened to harm your baby?" She answered: "In a heartbeat. I would do anything to protect my child." -funny that her definition did not include (up to now) the possibility of using a firearm for defensive purposes. Steve - you might point out that: "It is (or should be) a woman's right to choose to protect herself and her children from dangerous criminals."
  12. Kimberkid wrote: "Since everyone is so intent on changing something, I am all for the idea of eliminating prizes. Or at least lets random draw them. Besides, it is all about the friendly competition, right??? " -thats a sensible suggestion by Kimberkid & I agree w/ him. I also agree w/ GreyWolf's comments on L10/Production being the product of the AWB and lets not forget - THE ASSAULT WEAPON BAN/MAGAZINE BAN IS STILL IN EFFECT What's that you say? Didn't it expire? Not the State versions that have effects on magazine capacity in CA, NY, and MD as well as NJ & several other states. The State AWB provisions vary, but in general folks from those states can't simply call up STI & have them send a bigstick to their house. Maybe some folks have found a way around that; maybe some folks don't want to look for loopholes or interpret things differently. Fact is, L10 and Production have legitimate places in every state but especially in AWB states. It might be tempting for guys like me (VA resident) to just write those USPSA shooters off when changing the rules, but the USPSA members in those states have rights equal to mine & they deserve full consideration. When proposing rule changes (here or elsewhere) please take them into account in figuring the effect of the proposed rule. Regards, D.C. Johnson PS - Dave wrote: "Maybe a new thread on ideas to increase Revolver interest would be in order? The best way to insure the Revolver Division is to get interest up." Here here! Agreed.
  13. D.C banned new handgun possession in 1978. Murder rates steadily rose thereafter & the city was the murder capitol of the country fewer than three year ago. There has been a very slight decline in the murder rate only recently. D.C. provides a quarter century of evidence that SF's unconstitutional gun ban will fail to reduce crime.
  14. A good friend explained to me that he once bought & used some of the 9 Major surplus ammo that some of us use in SV/STI Open guns; the ammo is the Hirtenberger L7A1 124 grn that easily makes major out of STI/SVs. The BATFE even issued warnings about this very powerful ammo. I asked him how much ammo & what gun? Stock Glock 17; he fired all 1200 rounds w/o a problem. While I would not recommend nor condone such use, my friend's experience is a testament to the strength of the G17.
  15. SF should be renamed the city of lunacy. I seem to remember that Diane Fienstein won a small piece of pork-barrel for her state by getting the Navy to donate a decomissioned WWII Navy war ship (USS Iowa) that was supposed to be docked at Fisherman's Wharf as a tourist attraction. SF's city council, in its infinite wisdom, torpedoed the whole plan. Their justification? The city of San Francisco is against the illegal war in Iraq, the city council opposes the military in general over the Clinton era "don't ask, don't tell" policy on homosexuality, and the council is generally against offensive military weapons- including nuclear weapons which the ship might have once carried. Therefore, they were not interested in having this historical ship associated with their city in any way - even if it benefitted the city. Fienstein was flabbergasted. I located these links: http://www.seacoastonline.com/news/08212005/world/58962.htm http://www.nctimes.com/articles/2005/08/21...3_208_20_05.txt The beliefs of the people running the city really are that radically outside of mainstream understanding.
  16. One could buy a Kimber - though consider this: if you shoot USPSA, Kimber does NOTHING for us even when asked. They refuse to provide any sort of sponsorship while most other major 1911 makers support the shooting sports. If you shoot IDPA, then Kimber treats IDPA with the same lack of respect. I will NEVER own a Kimber for that reason alone, but there are other reasons to avoid them (see below) What companies support IDPA or USPSA? -Springfield Armory -Smith & Wesson -Dan Wesson/CZ-USA -STI/SV -Para Ordnance -And several others (feel free to post the names & a little info about companies that support us since I am sure I left some good folks out). As for reliability, its a well known fact the Kimber makes many of their parts out of cheap powdered metal (saves a few $$$). Its called "MIM" - an its true that many makers uses such parts; these parts "may' work. However, the process Kimber uses has lead to some broken MIM parts that I have personally seen come back for repair - including a thumb safety and one slide stop. Yet another reason I will not give my $$ to Kimber. Regards, D.C. Johnson
  17. Maybe this thread has just been a plot to draw attention to Revolver division & motivate people to shoot it for fear it could disappear? On another not, AK47 wrote: "If by eliminating one or more divisions it will help us attract more new shooters to IPSC I am all for it. . . Well that leaves Open, few potential new shooters own open guns, but on the other hand most open shooter already own a pistol they can shoot in one of the other divisions. . . Boy it really is easy to trash divisions you don't shoot." Gee - that got me thinking: What if someone had started a post titled "Lets eliminate Open Division altogether" - now a post like THAT would get some folks howling mad (just as this thread ignited the passions of some Revolver shooters). Can't we all just get along?
  18. "I'm getting fed up with USPSA and everyone else treating people outside of Open/Limited like they don't pay dues" - like the 2005 Nationals match book title that read: "2005 LIMITED NATIONALS and in tiny letters: "with production and revolver" ? Please. Could Sedro have expressed more disdain for the other divisions if they tried? I doubt it. And as for prize tables? I've never heard of it. If we dump anything, dump prize tables. Most of that stuff just gets sold off through classifieds or it sits around unused. Regards, D.C. Johnson
  19. Seems like many of us here may own a revolver (625 even) but we do not shoot it often as our semi-auto guns are our "main weapon" in USPSA. Should our wheel guns be relegated to the classifieds by eliminating Revolver division? Heck NO! The answer to low participation is to generate more participation. At the last club match in Thurmont, MD (site of the excellent Mason-Dixon 3 gun) we mustered no fewer than 8 revolver shooters just by spreading the word that there would be a "revolver squad". We even lured Phil Strader into testing out a stage with a 625. The match director responded to the revolver sign up by designing a mostly revolver friendly format and placing all of us on the same squad. We had such a good time that we are planning to do it again in November. All but one of us on the "revolver squad" typically shoot semis. All of us own suitable revolvers for USPSA. For the future, I think all gun owners could benefit from increased cross-over participation by those who shoot SASS/CAS where the semi auto does not exist or from IDPA which does not appear likely to eliminate their revolver divisions. The elimination of Revolver would make USPSA less attractive to wheel gun shooters from other disciplines. Signed, D.C. "not a revolver shooter" Johnson
  20. With Plated 185 grn hollow base bullets, I have gone as low as Avg. 342 FPS out of a 5" S&W 625. THe bullets will not stick in the barrel. This was with Trail Boss powder.
  21. Moly & polymer coate Precision bullets (& similar) are perfectly safe in a stock glock barrel. I have used them & B.J. earned either his A or his M card shooting those bullets out of a stock Glock 34.
  22. JRBean wrote: "Unfortunatley some people in our sport tend to put certain shooters on pedestal and others never measure up no mattter how good their effort. " -Very well put. "Congratulations on a great match and glad to see your hard work paying off." Also very well put. Ditto.
  23. Wow - a 20 gauge Saiga?? Please tell up more. Have any pics?
