Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Thanks for giving me the benefit of the doubt, I really am not that clueless... honestly
  2. I was afraid of that I am getting a new custom gun in maybe a month or two, so I'll have my current Edge sent off to a real gunsmith when I get that in--I think I would go insane if all I had to shoot for a few weeks was a rented Glock 22 (no disrespect for all the Glock shooters out there). All I have to say is I am a bit dissapointed in STI if this is typical of the quality of an Edge.
  3. It goes in just fine. Maybe it was the plunger getting hung up on the back side of the slidestop. Strange Maybe I just had a defective barrel link that blew early. I checked the top lugs on the barrel and slide, and I dont notice any significant wear. Thanks for all the input guys!
  4. Its a strange problem w/ not being able to insert the slide stop all the way, it gets "stuck" about 90% of the way in. I guess I will have to send it off to a pro to have a look at it, but its my only gun. That means no more dryfire or range practice till I get it back Does anyone have a suggestion on someone good who has a fast turnaround time? I am in Maryland, but I will Fed-ex overnight to anywhere. Cost is less important than skill and speed
  5. I have an STI Edge w/ about 10k rounds through it, and just recently encountered this issue: When inserting the slide stop, I can get it in almost all the way through, but comes up about 1mm short. In other words, the slide stop is about 99% of the way in, but just wont go that last bit. I have to take out the slidestop, and try to insert it again and sometimes I can get the thing to go all the way through. I normally use a EGW oversized .200 slide stop, but this problem happens also with the stock STI slidestop that came with my edge. Then today, I broke a barrel link, which I thought was odd since I only had about 10k rounds through it. After I replaced the barrel link, I encountered the same issue again--I couldnt get my slide stop all the way in. I had to take the slide stop out, and try again, and then I could get it through. Any ideas on what this issue is? Is this related to me breaking my slide stop? Any help is appreciated!
  6. Thanks for the info. I am going to be shooting Limited in handgun for the forseeable future. Since I cant mix divsisions, that means I cant shoot open in rifle/shotgun. Can I shoot tactial in rifle and limited in pistol and not be grouped with the "open" guys?
  7. I have been shooting USPSA for about a year in limited. The handgun divisions I understand, but these rifle divisions have me scratching my head. Can someone give me a breakdown of what the bottom line is in terms of the different divisions? The rules on the USPSA website are a bit difficult to decipher. I understand the handgun divisions: Open = optics + comps + 170mm mag length Limited = irons + no comps + 140mm mag length + .40 min for major But what is the equivalent for 3 gun? I think you can have optics and comps on a limited rifle? Also, if I shoot limited handgun, do I have to shoot limited rifle? Or can I mix divisions? So confusing! Ive done some searching on the forums, but havent really come across an explination. Can someone explain it to an idiot like myself?
  8. On this issue, do you see the FS as it lifts, all the way to when it drops back into the notch? I see the muzzleflash, and the sights lift out, but I loose it for a second before it settles again.
  9. Thanks for all the tips, im going to dedicate tomorrow and 500 rounds to just working on transitions.
  10. I envision lots and lots of mikes when I try this for the first time...
  11. I remember seeing something that allowed your double stack wide body STI to take single stack magazines, but cant seem to find it anymore. Anyone know what I am talking about?
  12. cadence drills +1 Actually +1 to everything on this post set up three targets at 5 yards...two shots each and try to make you transitions match your splits ... you also might try relaxing your right hand a little it was all I needed to drop my splits to .15-.18 although .22 is fine ! speed it up at a on close targets and then slowly move them further out. you also might try setting two targets up at 5-7 yards and space them 5 yards apart and try practicing slowly at first shooting one and snapping your head(eyes) to the other(it helped teach me to snap my eyes to the next target and not wait for the gun.) do it back and forth that way you don't get into the habit of going one way. best of luck! C-38 Just to be clear, by candence drill you mean I should set up say 3 targets and try and shoot the splits and transitions at the same speed. To begin with, this would be at .45. Then I will gradually speed up everything together?
  13. I've had the same problem. Got a new pin and the thing keeps sliding around on me. I've been wacking the crap out of it trying to get a little edge on it so it will stay in but no luck. Yesterday, I used a file to cut a small notch in the middle of it for the other spring loaded pin in the middle to fit into. It seems to be in there pretty solid. We'll see. MHearn Let me know how that works out. I heard its a bad idea to put a notch in the pin since that creates a weak spot where it is likely to break. But I am getting kinda frustrated having to push my front sight pin back in every few magazines.
  14. I was doing a 10 yard el prez and my splits on targets are ~.22 while my transitions are ~.45.
  15. My transitions are slow, about 2x what my split times are on a single target. Conceptually, I believe this is due to me bringing the gun back on the first target, then shifting over to the second instead of driving the gun in recoil to the second target. Anyone know of some good exercises to help speed me up? I am working on the stuff in Steve Anderson's dry fire book, but its not quite translating to live fire for some odd reason.
