  1. Never had an STI magazine (or stock Edge for that matter) that would run 100% w/o significant tuning. And re-tuning - keep an eye on the feed lip specs as listed on ISMI spring package inserts. Dropping them during a match or dry fire practice knocks them out of tune pretty quick.
  2. Thanks Henning! Isn't the Gold Team .38 Super the same gun used by the multi-time Open World Champion Eric Graufel? How much does it cost? Assembled mag price & capacity?
  3. Good point. Elections are coming up. As a citizen/voter, MY vote is secret, but my Senators' and Congressmens' vote is PUBLIC RECORD. So it should be with our USPSA representatives. The position of the running candidates AND the current Area directors should be known (and if they refuse to state their poinion, I would like to know WHY). BTW, I like revolver - be it USPSA or ICORE; they won't let me play in IDPA, but I would shoot that too if the 5" barrel was allowed.
  4. Correct - they won't fit. BUT - the followers might. Called them a few years back and they were taking names for the next "batch" - never hear d back from them & assume there was not enough interest to make more of these. Am I wrong?
  5. Check out the link above and this one: www.littlemachineshop.com - also, search out my posts on my (in progess) 1911 build to see a mini-mill in action for the typ of work you want to do.

I bet Merlin tries to buy it Always wanted one of those. Fun fact: many of them were actually converted from semi-to FULL AUTO and used in an anti-aircraft role against low flying Russian prop planes. They even had a "tree mount" to fix the thing to Finnish tree stumps. Full auto w/ one must be a fun ride!
  7. Probably will not like to hear this - but I re-temper my original springs per Johnny's instructions uder "Misc" on his web-sit here: www.strictlyIPSC.com (but I also know a stock Glock spring and even the GLock follower will fit).
  8. Damn shame they added a thumb safety to a safe-action pistol. Stupid move on their part. What is next? Manual safeties on DA S&W revolvers? At least they have the original M&P in a 5".
  9. I might be out-of-date, but some folks reported that Wolff was CLUELESS about the TS and Standard IPSC - often selling customers the WRONG mag springs. They seemed to believe that the CZ-75b magazine springs were the same as the mag springs for the Tactical SPorts and CZ-75 Standard IPSC mags. Neither the springs nor the mags are interchangeable.
  10. Good advice. For several years, I ran the indoor USPSA at Phil Strader's old range, Shooters Paradise. THe framents coming back often came off the floor or steel placed next to the steel-lined walls. You might "boxing" the steel. Regards, Douglas
  11. Anyone ever see a 1911/2011's hammer follow? Ever hear of one "doubling" or firing 2 shots full-auto? Any of those guns have triggers that were "lightened"? A long lasting, light trigger is no easy feat. You are better off just learning the trigger that is on the gun (unless its really awful).
  12. Looks like it has a big wide thumb safety. And what about the "C" ?
  13. Bore diameter is a significant part of .355's almost universal use in Open. For fun, a friend built a compensated 7.62mm Tokerev pistol. Used bullets of about 80 grns. With his comp, it was nearly recoiless and almost NO dot movement. Might be nice if they would let the FN 5.7mm in - and see what THAT one could do against a .38 super. But where does it end? I believe we should keep a minimum of 9mm for Open and .40 for Limited.
  14. Difference was big enough that a friend's .40 reloads would NOT chamber in his new CZ after going thorugh the Dillon dies; a switch to Lee dies fixed that. Considering the variations out there, I suggest you use: Lee "U" or undersized die. (use with case spray) Dillon is the only press I will ever use. I am not a fan of their resizing die.
  15. Agree 100%. W/ the "U" die, make sure you use case spray from Hornady (OneSHot) - just like in Brian Enos' video. Takes 2 seconds to spray 250 cases.
  16. Good point - only that patent EXPIRED so no 1911 maker "stole" the design from Colt, John Moses Browning or anyone else. Not SPS or STI. They are all free to use that design. TLSHORES wrote: "After they do the heavy lifting they are entitled a return on their investment. If people don't want their product or it is priced too high they won't buy it. The price is set by the cost to produce it and the profit that the market will bear. Nobody forces anyone to buy a 2011. They have other options, Glock, Para and many others. Now comes a foreign company that copies their design and uses it to compete against them. That kind of competition doesn't force a company to produce a better product, it only undermines their business. It means less incentive for companies to produce new and cool toys for us to play with." Actually, no, STI/SV only bothered to do the legal "heavy lifting" in the USA. THEY, meaning STI/SV, ignored the rest of the world. In the inovation world, you ignore international patent at your own peril. Fact is, they could have patented world-wide and they knew it (or should have). Does anyone really believe that SPS/Spain or Imbel Brazil would violate an international patent? Of course not, but its STI's fault that there is NO patent on the design (outside the US). Please stop with the "stole" crap - its incorrect. If STI/SC had not bothered to patent in the USA at all, would you still feel sorry for them when a big US company fairly, legally used ("stole" to some of you) their design? I think not. You would wonder at STI/SV's failure to protect their design. I wonder what STI/SV was thinking when they chose to forego the internation patent? -most likely they saw their product as not producing much profit & not justifying the additional cost for protection world-wide. Their choice. HOWEVER, their U.S. patent DOES protect them in the largest STI/SV market in the world: the USA. Thus, the theory that the SPS "undermines" STI really does not hold water. This is also why you will not be able to buy an SPS in the USA until the weak STI/SV design patent expires sometime in the next few years (2008). After that, you should be able to buy both SPS and Imbell 1911 (or 2011s) if anyone bothers to bring them into the U.S. Moreover, you will then have MORE "cool toys for us to play with" just as we are seeing in the 1911 single stack market. STI/SVI recouped their costs. After 2008, the real competition begins and WE, the consumers, will benefit. Now, I am going to the range to shoot my "stolen armalite designed" AR-15 knock-off, even though I feel really guilty about it.
  17. The most reliable primers out there are Federal. My gun's trigger/hammer won't set off the military stuff. Moreover, the 55 Am Eagle load features a boat-tail bullet & is accurate enough.
  18. the extra 40 I have came in handy at both of the last 2 Mason/Dixon 3gun rifle portions. Might be handy to have a dual 40 setup that was reliable- if just for mono-pod use.
  19. add extra car-polish to the media. .45 does not wear out (until it cracks).
  20. Agreed & I have encountered the same ignorance from FFLs in this area (Area 8).
  21. What bullet weight & charge?
  22. Out of curiosity, what would take to "prove" a gun by your way of thinking. I'm only asking because a CZ won the world shoot, places consistently in the top spots as USPSA national events, is the second most copied designed in the world after the 1911, and it and its varients have been used my many military institutions, including the IDF. I don't know if it suitable for US police issue, as I'm not sure what the requierments would be, but I am curious what you expect from a gun you would bet the farm on? Very good point Vlad. As to US police issue, I frankly do not see many departments rushing to issue our beloved 1911s to PATROL OFFICERS (not talking about the LAPD SWAT/SERT team here, but actual duty officers). Also, the US is not the only country w/ police & crime in the world. Again, consider this fact from the CZ-USA.com site: "CZ 75 B is used by more Governments, Militaries, Police and Security agencies than any other pistol in the world." Cosidering that fact, it appears that those who viewed the CZ as comparable to any davis arms product were woefully mis-informed. Moreover, CZs are of such high quality that even Colt once prepared to market the CZ under its own name until Colt fell on hard economic times (i.e. the Colt Z-40). Armalite, like the Israel Defense Force, recogizes the supperiority of design and is distributing a new CZ clone marketed towards law enforcement. Even the late Jeff Cooper (R.I.P.) recognized the brilliance of the CZ design. Besides, what other design has a history of handling 9mm Major?
  23. If the .45 happens to be a S&W 625, then it can handle .45 Super w/o modification and THAT .45 should be enough for pigs. A friend shot pigs in Fla some time back w/ 12 gauge slugs. Those were a bit TOO much for the poor little piggies (made a mess of things so I was told).
  24. What I use on SP-01 is simply the cheap hard plastic CZ-75b grips (matchs profile) and apply grip tape. BTW, I have a template for the frontstrap and over the grips, but you can use Eric Wesselman's backstrap grip tape for Glock if you have an extra laying around.
  25. I am thinking of only 2 model slides out there: a Para LDA (1911 slide) or a Glock (Caspian slide). Why allow replacement slides? Isn't it enough that USPSA allows replacement barrels?
