  1. None of the shooting sports are tactically sound but they are great fun and do get you familiarization time with your firearms. Anybody can go plinking (cans, bottles and the like) but the real test starts when you're on the clock running a stage in front of everyone. Short of being in a real gunfight, being on the clock and performing in front of your squad is about as stressful as it gets for a newer shooter. Good luck and have fun!
  2. Anything new on the flat trigger for P series HK's being tested by Gray Guns? I've done a little searching but not much out there since last September. Thanks, Matt

I know it's not the same gun but the mag release is. I carry a P2000 daily for work and found that using both the thumb and forefinger is quickest for me (right handed with big hands). So pinching so to speak, try it. Matt
  4. I started the same way Swatcop did as it was all I had available. My duty rig does have open top mag holders and a Safariland level 2 holster. When I run it (still do on occasion), I have everything in place (ASP, cuffs, loaded M4 mag, light, etc) except my duty radio. At my club, the guys like when I run it as they know it's a lot of extra weight regardless. In the end, I'm much faster w/out all the extras (and my STI, lol) but I like having the choice at club level matches. My problem is getting other LEO's to get out of their comfort zone and come shoot. None of the shooting sports are tactically sound (some are more than others obviously) but it is trigger time and good practice moving and shooting with the gear you carry daily. Just my .02, Matt
  5. I have the Tactical 3.0 steel framed .40 and love it. It has eaten everything since day 1, no FTE's or FTF's. It's my "gamer" gun for IDPA, too much fun. Good luck, Matt
  6. I just sold my DW SSC .40. The fit and finish were superb and it was scary accurate, a much better shooter than I am, lol. Matt
  7. I've heard good things about the later EMP's.....I reload .40 for USPSA and for practice (our duty weapons are G22's)....this is swaying me now towards the EMP in .40 The only thing I changed were the sights. I went with Trijicon HD's with the yellow dot, same as my duty gun. You'll find the EMP to be very tight (fit and finish were great on mine) when brand new. I just ran the shit out of it with full house duty loads (.40 @ 181pf out of my duty gun) as my break in and never had any issues. I made some lighter reloads that it'll run w/out issue. They're no powder puff at 145pf but still lots of fun to shoot. I didn't do this in the beginning so I don't know if it would've run these before I broke it in.The EMP's seem to have a fairly heavy recoil spring from the factory. I think lots of people try to run their really light reloads which may be causing some of their headaches with these guns. I'm sure you could run a lighter recoil spring for reloads though, easy swap. Good luck, Matt
  8. The rubber band trick works just fine. I use my SLP Competition all the time and average 22-23 every time I'm on the line. It drives the old guys nuts, lol. Try it, it's cheap and does the trick. Matt
  9. Fwiw, I am a fellow LEO and carry my Springfield EMP nearly 100% of the time when off duty. I also run it quite often in local IDPA matches, It has fed and ejected flawlessly for me since day one.
  10. I run my STI Tactical 3.0 when I want to run a 2011. The bull barrel is 3.75" with full length dust cover. I added an f/o front sight and STI tac magwell...it fits perfectly in the box. It is a true gamer gun in every sense of the word. Most weekends I still run my EMP though as it's my everyday off duty carry. The EMP is another really fun gun to run and conceals so nicely. Matt
  11. I know it's not exactly what you asked about but I run my STI Tactical 2011 3.0 in .40 for IDPA, USPSA and 3-Gun. The fit and finish were great out of the box and all I've changed were the sights (Dawson F/O front), had the trigger massaged and added the tac mag well. I reload everything so it's fairly easy to tailor the rounds for the game. The gun has been reliable from the start but at just over 1200 rounds it's probably just getting broken in, lol. Be safe, Matt
  12. I use my STI Tactical 3.0 2011 in .40. I can tailor the loads for several games and be very competitive doing so. There is no substitute for practice but I do think that if whatever you choose makes you feel even the least bit more confident in your abilities then that can't be a bad thing. Good Luck, Matt
  13. Sir, My rifle loves Federal XM193. I'm running a 13.7" Rainier Ultra Match barrel and getting right at MOA with XM193 that's still running just north of 3000fps. Hope this helps a bit. Matt

I posted the strings below on the HK forum when someone asked about putting a LEM Match Trigger in their Expert. I did that and went a bit further to make it a fun and capable game gun. I post under MGF98382. See what you think and if you have any questions feel free to ask. http://www.hkpro.com/forum/hk-handgun-talk/200848-has-anyone-else-put-lem-trigger-expert.html
  15. I don't know that I'd want to re-live some of the stages that I've shot... You might want to PM Aristotle from Rainier Arms. He posts here often and I have seen him compete wearing one.
  16. I picked up one of these from Shooters Connection last week and ran it in a local IDPA match yesterday. Before the match I ran some full power Federal ammo from work to break it in. Not one fte or ftf in those 200 rounds. For the match I ran my 200gr reloads that also worked flawlessly. I had a local smith clean up the trigger and install some Trijicon HD's as I wanted this to be a game gun that could be carried daily off duty if needed. The bull barrel on this model is 3.75" with the full length dust cover measuring 3.15" from the rear of the slide stop pin to end of the barrel. I believe this makes it good and legal under the new rules. I ran it side by side with the Eagle I usually use for IDPA and this one just feels better. Maybe it's because the size is closer to my service firearm. Either way I think you may see a few more of these on the line in the near future. In another thread someone asked us to define gaming. To me, this gun is it. It does everything I want it to and does so within the rules. Is it worth 3-4 times more than the cost of a Glock, XDM or M&P? Maybe not for some but for me it is.
  17. For the gamer in you try the Para Pro Custom .45. Double stack mags and a magwell make mag changes pretty quick and you save quite a bit over an STI 2011. I guess time will tell if the new offerings from Para are better than before.
  18. I guess I have to ask; is the a game gun or are you going to carry concealed with a chance of being caught out at night in a very dark place? If it's a game gun then the Dawson's are a great addition and you can stop there. If you're going to carry concealed then the Trijicon HD's are a great night sight and are very fast during competition as well. I run them on both my service firearm and my concealed carry gun, both of which are used to compete from time to time.
  19. I know it's not the model your looking for but my Fabarm Velocity XLR5 is holding up very well. It has approximately 75 games through it and I have only had to tighten one of the screws for the comb. Hopefully that's indicitive of the quality they're putting out all around.
  20. Absolutely. Even though it's a game, I refuse to "game" this part of it. I look forward to moving up and getting better. It's funny how a few too many of the regulars who will never miss a Sunday local match are nowhere to be found on classifier day, lol.
  21. I just started shooting IDPA in January of 2013. I ran my HK USP Combat Competition and did pretty well with it locally. I just picked up an STI Tactical 3.0 that I can't wait to run next weekend.
  22. Another +1 for Mr. Chuck B. and Shooters Connection...a true class act.
  23. I called Mr. Bradley at Shooters Connection and should have one Monday. Outstanding service to say the least from Mr. B., a true pleasure to do business with. I'll get some rounds through it and then shoot a local IDPA match with it the following Sunday. I'll post a follow up after the match. Me
  24. All, I was looking at picking one of these up in .40 for IDPA and some daily carry. I run an STI Eagle for IDPA right now and love the gun but saw this one and my "gun ADHD" kicked into overdrive. I have a pretty much unlimited fountain of .40 brass at my disposal so that's all I own caliber wise (besides an SA TRP that needs to find a new home to fund this one, lol). I'm thinking it should be pretty easy to get it to run with my 200gr reloads but I was wondering if anyone has spent any time with one and what you thought about it. Thanks, Matt
